Obviously, the stock market took a huge hit after 9/11. I can't imagine, however, that every stock tanked. Some must have made huge gains. Does anyone out there know which stocks seem to improve after a terrorist attack?

With the elections so near and everyone worrying about an impending attack, I thought I'd try to concentrate on one little slice of positivity instead of continually freaking myself out worrying about the downside.

I have been wanting to open a thread on investments and have asked several Admins where I should put the thread but none answered me. Maybe it will survive here.

I wanted to talk about the IQD, Iraqi Dinar post Saddam and find out if anyone have invested in it and when they would expect it to go to world trade.

I purchased 6 Million IQD over the summer and have hope that it will open again to the world at .33 US = 1 IQD

Right now it can be purchased at 1460 IQD to 1 USD but before Saddam was taken out it was at .33

Please share whatever you may have on this and I will share what I learn as well.

Another interesting stock to buy for a year hold is Sirius Satellite Radio Inc (SIRI) Buy it while it's low and you will certainly see a good return in 12 months right before Howard Stern makes his move.

Thank you for not finding this topic offensive. I am not trying to profit from folks misery, it's just that the world has changed and terror attacks have become a major market manipulator. Why not learn to utilize them in a business sense instead of getting continually punished by them financially?

I did'nt think you were trying to profit. It's not like you're selling the new coin clad in silver recovered in the wreakage of the WTC that includes minscule body parts of loved ones.

I just mentioned the Iraqi Dinar because it will be a great investment for the long term. You have to remember that it's a country you are investing in and not just a business. And they have the oil to back it.

i don't know how much return you can expect from Sirius Satellite Radio Inc
It has 1.2 billion shares outstanding selling for around $4 . That's a $5 billion market cap for a company that's only doing $40 million in sales . would you pay $5 billion for a company that's doing $40 million in sales?
I wouldn't .It does show promise but i see more of a ten year time frame not 1

I actually posed this question to my broker. He sent me back a generic investment advice statement from his firm that provides fluffy BS analysis of the market during election years...the market when interest rates rise...

I just filled out my papers...he's gone. I've got to find a broker who is willing to answer pointed questions with real responses. Any ideas?

Well if you follow Stern you know he is leaving in 15 months to go to SSR
Of course the followers are already starting to purchase equipment and subscribe and how many "million" will be following at $12 per month plus equipment sales?

Of course if you only have a few dollars to put into SIRI then you will have to wait a lil' bit for a windfall but if you have some liquid and you look at it's action in the past 2 weeks then you will see what I mean about a year.

What about the rice in stockk placed on the airline companies before 9/11? What about the illegal transactions happening just before and during the attacks? This information is key.

I'm not looking to reconstruct the events of 9/11 by analyzing stock movement. There is already considerable research out there surrounding the short sales of United and American Airlines stock. I don't want to short sell stock because that IS profiting from someone's difficulty. I am interested in finding about those stocks that dramatically improved as a result of the attacks so I can use that information to determine where additional market blips can be capitalized on after another major attack.

Just want to add to this thread that XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc (XMSR) is cutting a $500M deal with MLB so keep your eyes open as it's also moving.

Correction: $650Million
