The Corps's decision to charge for movies is part of the service's ongoing efforts to help pay costs of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The ticket cost also results from a new policy requiring recreation activities to generate a 4 percent net operating profit.

Twenty theaters are operated on Marine Corps installations worldwide. Of those, AAFES operates six and MCCS 14. For first-run movies, AAFES charges $3.50 for adults and $1.75 for children and, for other films, $3 and $1 respectively.

thats crap. bush will spend millions at the drop of a hat on the "war on terrorism". how much does it really cost to let marines into the movies for free? Many of these people will be affected by what they have seen for the rest of there life and they can't even get into the movies for free?! what a joke.

But still $3 for a movie isn't bad.
I just hope they don't get raped on the popcorn prices. I went to the movies and it was $6 , but popcorn and a coke costs $9

So it is bad for the government to stop paying for movie theaters for the troops, but it was okay for Hollywood to charge the government to show the movies?
Why can't Hollywood donate pictures to these theaters pro bono? It'd be a publicity coup for them. Everyone would be happy. They'd lose what, a few hundred thousand dollars? They might as well, BEFORE Kerry raises their taxes and takes it anyways...

good idea Soul...

I just think that the troops do enough for us, that this is one of those "little things" that the American government could give back to them.

They do donate them pro bono, same with the tv shows you see on the military networks overseas, that's why there are no commercials.
