The Pirate Bay Knocks Anonymous

www.escapistmagazine.com

"We do NOT encourage these actions. We believe in the open and free internets, where anyone can express their views. Even if we strongly disagree with them and even if they hate us," read a Facebook message from the Pirate Bay staff. "So don't fight them using their ugly methods. DDOS and blocks are both forms of censorship."

Basically TPB is calling anonymous childish, and using dirty tactics to censor people who are censoring other people.

So i kinda like what TPB did on this one. showing that regardless of another person's view if you want to right to disagree with someone you must also give them the right to disagree with you.

whatcha think?

Good for Pirate Bay! They are 100% correct. You can not scream about internet censorship being wrong, and then turn around and block others and claim it is right. Censorship is censorship no matter what the reason is for doing it. What I like the most is the Pirate Bay did not just condemn the actions, but also offered up several alternative ideas.

"If you want to help; start a tracker, arrange a manifestation, join or start a pirate party, teach your friends the art of bittorrent, set up a proxy, write your political representatives, develop a new p2p protocol, print some pro piracy posters and decorate your town with, support our promo bay artists or just be a nice person and give your mom a call to tell her you love her."

Nice Job Pirate Bay!

Pirate Bay is the real deal.

Anonymous are a shell outfit being used to generate clamp-downs that will affect ALL OF US using the internet.

So the anonymous lovers out there out to wake the hell up instead of blindly defending them.

My friends,

Anonymous are nothing but mere internet trouble makers. They are on their way to have the internet controlled which makes me think, who the hell would say they have info and only release CRAP?

Meh,

Just MEH!!!

Who is doing the blocking and who is not.
Is youtube blocking your video while making sure a Justin Bieber video stays on top
and makes millions while your video might have made millions for you if the link was
shown more often. Rosie O'Donnell's View of Loose Change and 911's WTC building 7
was preempted by Bush at the Rose garden. Well it all depends what you block.
What Anonymous blocks can't mean a hill of beans because the official blockers
have it all their way. Blocking WTC building 7 falling down meant something.

I find this mildly amusing... When I mentioned that Anon was fighting what they saw as illegal actions with more illegal actions I got laughed at, made fun of, ripped apart, called names (etc etc) Now..... people are actually realizing this?

HA! Sorry but... while I love TPB and what they stand for, it shouldn't have taken THEM saying this for people to realize it.

i think what makes it have a larger impact is just by who TPB is. they're rogues, and fighters of the system, but they are preaching the complete opposite you normally see from "rogues" (i.e. wikileaks, anonymous) whom preach retaliation.

I don't know, I think TPB is just sugar caoting the whole 2 wrongs don't make a right. If that statment were true, we would be speaking german now and criminals would be the norm.

Speaking of thieves (and not you) we are all equally co-owners of this planet and is resources, by intrinsic logic, ethics and common principles, and yet there was takeover by very ruthless, dominating folks who pat themselves on the back for their ethics of murder and domination.

Now, they own nothing. The only system that is even possible in a technological moneyless way, without patents or copyrights, sharing everythign as family (and otherwise you are living in a hellzone, in low frequency insanity under the distortions and lies of a ruling elite pyramid system of theives) is the Venus Project, but you know it needs tweaking.

Here is how it must be tweaked. Power must be from the bottom up with highly educated, (the kind of people that would never allow anyone to live on the streets who know that it costs more money to have a homeless person than provide full equality, and not to control others), really educated (no ISMS), and caring people, in councils of equal men and women overseeing things and vetoing when injustices occur in large enough numbers, wiht easy access to spreading information and gaining large enough nubmbers.

And 2. I don't like cities. Country girl at heart. So all that high tech stuff is nothing like this:

Fishing in the Phoenix Earthship

or this

Discover Okanagan -- Summerland to Penticton

So I'll pass on his cities, I envision my cherry orchard and greenhouses myself.

The point is, we all have been royally shafted, out of our land, homes, gardens and living without slavery, volunteering at what inspires us, and caring for all in need, health wise, age wise, and young family wise, so that we all live equally in abundance.

Anything else is massively crimes against humanity and outright theft worth a priceless amount to each of us.

Native Americans also did not believe in property but they still warred on each other

Free EVERYTHING will simply wipe out humaninty, because there will be ZERO desire to achieve anything, to create anything. People will just take and use... and never add to the system

Our current system has swung too far to the greed side, granted, but getting everything free with no work or return is even worse.

The system needs balance As one example, when gasoline was .99cents a few years ago the economy was working fine for everyone.

Turning to Pirates is not the answer. but neither is living in Lotus Land... THAT will only lead to stagnation of the human race

The only thing that Anon did that I gave kudos, was that they shutdown a few child porn sites. Anon I believe now is owned by the government, ulitimately is trying to make a point to censor the internet. Good on Pirate Bay, for handling the situation maturely.

Yes they did, but they still had land and resources for all. But still hot headed and growing up to do. However, most people want to live in peace. And the majority on earth, equality. And we're not in that time frame for tech any more either, not that they didn't actually come from a higher tech, way way in the past, not that Lemuria wasn't the equality and that the natives didn't carry that forth. But even if you sweep the past away, and only run with this cycle, anything that isn't a completely equal and abundant world is theft.

People who are worrying about their own debts, say 5 000. I would say tell them to tell tptb to take it out of the millions they own you and do a citizens arrest on sight of them. Thats what I say, every day, and renounce/denounce their slave system and crimes and the evil they do to infinity and BEYOND.

I totally agree that DDoS and other similar tactics are pointless.

But any random person can claim to be anonymous. It doesnt mean they are. And i think a lot of the ddos attacks arent actually anonymous, as they dont really serve any purpose. Its too amateur. And amateur is the hallmark of the government, not a loose-knit collective of hackers from around the world.

If you want some software that it's safe to copy:-

FreeBSD - My own favourite operating system, but not as easy for some.

Ubuntu - Great free operating system for anyone who needs something simple.

MPlayer - A free media (music and movie) player.

Vim - My own favourite text editor.

Anyone can call themselves anonymous. SOME of those groups likely fit the description you speak of. But it is sheer ignorance to claim ALL who work under the anonymous banner are connected to the shill groups.

Look at the info that came out of the Stratfor email dumps.

Oh, you have no idea what that is?

Exactly.

As a developer I can tell you that The Pirate Bay is censoring the net on its own. Also it's indirect they prevent that you (the user) get access to new software. For example I stopped development of a second project as my first project got pirated just a few days after it was in the open. Was a shareware application without any real limit. You could use it for free but if you liked it (and payed a very small amount) you would get some bonus content. Like already said just a few days and it was in TPB.
I was already working on a second app but stopped worling on it as I won't spent my free time just to have it stolen. Users would never know that they would have get a second app but it was TPB (and others) that prevented it from appearing in the net. This is a form of censoring too.

And what is even much worse is that free sharing like TPB is the resaon why big companies introduce their AppStores and crypted/authenitificated installations as introduced in MountainLion. I'm not really sure if you really understand what AppStores will do to our freedom. Those 99% think it's cool as they can see blinking icons and one click installations. But they don't see what is behind these stores:
- Full control over the software you use and install
- Really no rights left. You even don't buy a licenze anymore to use the app whenever you want. If you take a look into the terms of use you will read something like 'time limited license we are allowed to cancel anytime'.
If they like they just remove an app (like the WikiLeaks-App) and you can't install it anymore (no matter if you have paid for it or not).
And for all this (and more that is comming the next years) is just because of those users pirating everything. It was just a matter of time. So thanks a lot for pirating: You made the world really a lot worse and reduced our freedom
