Years back I was a big fan of the "wipeout"games on playstaion1.
You know the one, with anti grav ships racing round insane speedy tracks:

Well, check out this great real world version, using superconductors cooled by liquid nitrogen, which run on(or above really)electromagnetic tracks:

Good job folks at the Japan institute for science and technology!!
I have seen mini trains demonstrating the same principle at a science fair, but this takes it to another level IMO.
I say they upscale this and turn it into a new sport!

Cool or what?

I am not saying it is, But the cars look like CGI, bit jumpy and blurry.

And its not really antigrav in the quantum sense.

But very very cool, look out Scalextric

Nice one! Wipeout was also one of my fav games.
Looks very cool. They definetely have to work on the speed though :-)

I expect they could up the speed by uping the current/pulse rate of the tracks.Did you see at the start,he used a controller to make the craft go backwards the forwards?Pretty cool.
BUT-I doubt they would be allowed to be used in a city with all that nitrogen pouring out the tail.
Very dangerous.

Awesome,

I loved Wipeout, now all they need is a much bigger scale and cool trance music in the backround!

It looked hohum until the racers got to the vertical turn. That was cool!

I can hear my four year old now:

4y/o: "I want it, I want it!!!!"
me: Want what?
4y/o: The floaty anti gravy ship race cars!!!!
me: huh?

Check out this other vid of a mini mag lev train-same kind of idea, and it sort of moves in the same way.

If the makers of the wipeout vid are from a technology institute like they claim, thenI reckon they are legit.
They have an email contact on youtube,I may hassle them for info.

I know what you mean though,it sort of looks like cgi in places.

I hear you,and have changed the thread title.
Would be great if they could find way around the dumping of nitrogen from the exhausts.
Afterburner weapons??
Or a recycling system which captures the gas for reuse maybe?
Hmm.

oh how times change.

*Invent nuclear power*

"We can do cold fusion " says the humans.

*Invent cold levitation*

"We can do hot levitation" Says the humans.

I await when this is full scale. I say it's the key is in the material.

It is.

I saw this the other day over @ Hack a Day. I'm really sorry to divulge this: the video is a fake.
I was so hoping it was real myself...

BUT...Here's the aging 20th century technology in action...and, this video is real. Albeit, definitely not as cool (pun intended
) as the bogus Wipeout video!

Chuga chuga...Choo, choo!!
