I found this website with a ton of old military manuals that cover more things than just survival. They've got a manual for everything! Let me know if you find shoe tying 101.

Find the one called FOOT MARCHES.

Go to Appendix C.

Page 109:

"b. Proper lacing of boots not only prevents blisters but also
prevents improper blood flow in the foot. Laces can assume a
seesaw action, which can produce along blister across the instep.
To prevent blistering, lacing over the instep can be avoided. If
possible, broad laces should be used and an extra pair should be
carried."

Lacing

Also, going on long marches, take 4 extra pairs of socks and change them every time you rest for more than 20mins..

This is a much better description of how to lace shoes/boots. I was actually joking about the shoe lacing 101 part. I know the military has guidelines for that.
I use over under for the big combat type boots that I have. Works well.

Too funny (laces), most manuals are needed for points towards promotion, most are non-sensical things covered in advanced individual training. When out on a march socks are important, but so are a spare pair of boots. I will say it should be of interest to people "out of the know." Although all the good info are in the books that say restricted, and instruct you to destroy it if the need arises.
