In sleep, why don't we dream of other worlds?

Dreams are composed of our own personal archetypes, basically our own experiences. Think of everything you know or have experienced as a lego block, and these blocks are all that we have available to build our dream world with.

Say you dream of school or your house, but that school or house isn't exactly like it is in the real world. That's because your archetype of school or home is a composite of all the schools you've been to or all the houses you've lived in.

Now say you were to experience another world through dreaming. This world would have to be represented using things you are already familiar with. Much like building a lego space ship using an Indiana Jones lego set. It can be done, just takes a little imagination. You're space ship won't look exactly like a space ship, but you use what you have to represent what you're missing.

I don't have much experience with alien worlds, but I do suspect we encounter the odd entity in dreams that is alien to us, that is so different from anything we know, we have to use our existing inventory of lego blocks or archetype to create metaphors. So these entities might appear as a strange mishmash of different elements. Like part wasp, part truck and part dog.

There was a recent thread here where someone claimed to have seen the demon tormenting someone with schizophrenia. It appeared as a he-man body with a betty boop head. They didn't see it while dreaming, but that would be consistent with how things alien to us appear. If someone else were to have seen that same entity, they likely would have seen it as something different, something determined by their own personal set of lego blocks. But there would be archetypal similarites between both descriptions. Like a caller on coast to coast described seeing a horse like creature where his girlfriend saw a large dog like creature.

That's absurd.

Although I've also thought of that, that the stars and the whole thing is like a big elaborate hoax, requiring only this world as the only stage needed to enact the drama of life.

Then I think of the probes they've sent out in our solar system, and I look at the galaxy, and I'm forced to conclude that there's rather much more going on than meets the eye as they say, right NOW! That's the freaky part!

I dreamed of moving to Venus once. It was a very realistic dream, right from us getting on our flight, which looked similar to the Virgin Galactic airlines. I think we slept on the trip. The planet was set up for living, looked 1970ish, I remember stepping around hot spots so the feet didn't get burnt. I remember an outdoor market with a nice little bistro area. It was very comfortably warm even at night.
One of my favorite dreams.

I also dreamed of being a different creature, semi long black fur, bipedal, there were humans around, they caught me and euthanized me, I was the last of my kind
I woke up as I died in my dream.

I probably pieced together subconsciously stuff I had seen and/or read and my dream came out seeming very real. Especially all the hot spots on Venus. I even remember hiding laundry when company was coming.

I have reoccurring dreams of alien worlds. In fact -- I had one last night set on a world where the trees grow down from the sky and nothing grows on the ground. The first time I had that dream -- that I remember because I journaled it -- was April 1989. For what its worth.

When I was very small, '50 and early '60's, I used to have dreams where I was taken to the moon. I asked lots of questions and got answers. I was also taken to Saturn, where I was annoyed by the racket the rings made. They were really loud. I saw the rings as being a satelite dish, that communicated with other solar systems and galaxies.

Later I had dreams of flying a makeshift saucer that ran on crystal batteries and flew through a beautiful nebula with some old happy gieser in a makeshift tanker.

I've also had dreams where I was some strange person, who I knew intimately in my dream, and when I awoke was surprised to see my own hands.

These may not have been dreams, but that's the easiest definition I have!

What if your dreams are controlled?

If they are controlled, that would explain why you never dream about what you want to dream about for if I could dream about what I wanted to dream about, I'd get laid a lot more.

Ribbit

Ya, maybe. But you'd still be ugly!

Just kidding Ribbit.

I guess you cannot know what you just do not know, consciously or subconsciously.
How can you even begin to converse in a language that you know absolutely nothing about?
You Can't.
Same with dreams. There must be an inkling!

Maybe people who are reported alien abducties have the dreams you seek,
but again they must have an inkling, if they do.
You'll have to ask them (nutters??
) for further clarifications.

This may be a little off topic, but on a humorous note - if reincarnation is real, and here on Earth we are madly trying to "graduate" and get the heck out of "Dodge" ASAP, there may be beings who live in an absolute state of bliss their whole lives on other worlds, where the types of "issues" we deal with here are absolutely inconcievable to them, and so when they "graduate", they get to come here of all places, where the contrast, and the difficulties and the challenges and thus the opportunity for great leaning, is among the best you'll find anywhere in the universe!

Thus, there may be a lineup of other types of beings, higher beings, heavenly beings, lined up and waiting in anticipation, stretching from here to the other end of the universe, or might the process be restricted to each individual galaxy only - just to have the opportunity to be born here as a human baby!

I guess I was wrong, as you and others are reporting that indeed they do dream of other worlds.

It sure would be nice to get a peek at what's out there, maybe in between lives or something, somehow, hey anything's possible.. ?

"No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor mind concieved what God has in store for those who love him."

I'm sure there's more to see and experience, but meanwhile here we are, so might as well make the best of what we've already got going on, and for all we know this is a preferred place to be in order to learn and grow.

Perhaps we take this world and our life here for granted in large part. I think so.

Regards,

NAM

Very good topic and I find it funny that this thread shows up right around the time I had this vision....

Before I start I seem to be able to tap into this close eyed vision while still awake, they are not the normal mental images that we get everyday. These visions are much more clearer...almost like looking through a view finder

So anyway after I laid down and closed my eyes I started seeing this strange landscape that resembles the African savannah where the sky was somewhat purple in color with tints of red. Then I see this strange creature that I wouldn't be able to describe no matter how hard I tried...but it was dark in color and hairy, maybe the size of calf.

While this creature was feeding on the vegetation, I see this lion-like creature stalking from the bushes. It was unlike any lion we have on Earth...the ears seemed pointy and the color of it was almost a dark brown/red/orange hue. Soon after this lion creature began it's chase and that's when I snapped out of it.

It may seem like I just have a vivid imagination...which I do, but this came to me like I was watching some movie.

Thanks for the post OP

I've never dreamed of other worlds but I have dreamed about being in another solar system. There was giant star (or maybe we were just closer..) and I was on the side of a massive space station. The station would occasionally fire a red pulse into a sort of wormhole near the star (i think to keep it open) and ships could be seen transiting through it.

I was more concerned with the female trying to kill me outside on the starfighter "parking lot".. I wont get into it.

I think that was the closest dream I had to being on another world.. completely out of the blue.

We all dream; for some it's a wonderful thought for some nightmares...how if dreaming of another world is too much to digest? The feeling of not being alone for some is an scarey thought, often when people are alone the thought of someone shadowing them....is not an easy thing to overcome.

How do you know you haven't dream of other worlds?
We often dream, and sometimes in our daily life we see only parts of our dreams happen, not exactly as we saw it in the dream ! what happens to the rest?

I am not trying to convince you or myself but I think we do dream about other worlds....just a bit different where we are who we are but everything else has a different tune....is it that we dream of ourselves in a parallel world??

Not dreaming of other worlds and life forms could be just this : maybe in our life time we will not live to see and experience the encounter with the alien life form or travel to another world...

Very intriguing subject NAM, I had never considered this. Does the lack of dreams about other worlds/realms discount there existence? Hmmm, it is strange we typically do not hear of this, and it lends testament to the notion that our dreams are more subjective, in that they are a result of our actual experiences and awareness. This thread made me think about the difference between dreams and imagination too, because our imaginations are full of other worlds and realms, hence sci-fi and innovative leaps in technology.

Maybe our brains and spirit are so full of the material aspect of existence, there is not enough room for other world stuff. One would think exposure to good sci-fi and ATS would seed our dreams for such other worlds. I often wonder about Shambhala, and think it was/is real.

As The Cusp mentioned, archetypes are prominent sources for thought, both consciously and sub-consciously, but the 'worlds' in which they represent are not as often considered I guess, or we superimpose what we know over them, perhaps limiting their expansiveness. Cusp mentions schizophrenia, and I had not considered their thoughts as a source for these other worlds, but that is the only place I have heard of such. A truly disconnected mind would be the one to reach these dimensions I guess.

Anyway, fascinating thought , thanks for the provoking.

Peace,
spec

When I had more vivid dreams I used to dream of other worlds and other time periods, other beings and the like. Back when I was in high school and all that I was more active in things such as meditation and Astral Projection so that may have influenced my "dreams." Then again life was a lot simpler and easier to get by back then to and not as stressful as now. Which would explain why I haven't really had such a vivid dream in a while or so, but when I do it's still of a different period and often times another world.

This is a very interesting topic and I like this quote by the cusp.

This is so true but what isn't said, this is all you need to dream of any world or anything. This is your fabric and thread, it is totally up to you what you create.

we have to use our existing inventory of lego blocks or archetype to create metaphors. So these entities might appear as a strange mishmash of different elements. Like part wasp, part truck and part dog.

This is how we experience "any-thing". "Do you think that's air your breathing?" This is how the brain operates.
I have some fascinating dreams with objects and elements I cannot explain. The more I open my mind the more complex these dreams become.
I have visited other worlds that run similar to ours but not quite. I have even been in worlds where the orientation is different, like instead of freeways running on the ground they run like a wall, to your left or right or I have been on a thick foggy planet where I was actually lighter than air.
I have had some of the craziest, most realistic dreams ever. So realistic it bothers you when you wake up.
To answer your question, 1 time I suddenly appeared in a 'craft' and I was escorted by two individuals. I could describe them and their weird clothes in full detail. I won't go into it too much, but one was tall and the one in charge was very short with an unusual robe-like garment on.

So yeah its very, possible.
Dreams have the ability to explain things and define things better than our lousy, restrained, conditioned 5 senses.
Respect the dream realm, and what lies beyond it.

Some times we do. And in meditations, that sort of get hijacked. There is a veil that is there until we reach the levels of the platform where its not needed, or where we've passed that test and now could benefit from more or share some more/help. But teachers dont hand the answers to the students.

thank you about the avatar. I don't know where it is from I found the pic on the net ages ago.
The cities looked human in size and appearance. Like I mean they were made to cater for humans. I did not see any people in these dreams but the building design and layout and stuff was real different. I
I remember looking at stuff and being amazed at the detail and feeling like I really was in a different world. I am convinced that I have been to different worlds in my dreamtime..

happy dreams to thee..kx)

Dreams are a product of the emancipation of the soul, rendered more active by the suspension of the active life of relation, and enjoying a sort of indefinite clairvoyance which extends to places at a great distance from us, or that we have never seen, or even to other worlds. To this state of emancipation is also due the remembrance which retraces to our memory the events that have occurred in our present existence or in preceding existences the strangeness of the images of what has taken place in worlds unknown to us, mixed up with the things of the present world, producing the confused and whimsical medleys that seem to be equally devoid of connection and of meaning.

The incoherence of dreams is still farther explained by the gaps resulting from the incompleteness of our remembrance of what has appeared to us in our nightly visions--an incompleteness similar to that of a narrative from which whole sentences, or parts of sentences, have been omitted by chance, and whose remaining fragments, having been thrown together again at random, have lost all intelligible meaning.info

Wow, that sounds pretty deep. Unfortunately I don't see any practical information in your post.

Dreams are made up of archetypes chained together. You focus on one archetype, and it manifests it's various associations, much like the concept of collapsing probability waveforms in physics. Focus on one archetype, it manifests it's association until one of those newly manifested association captures your attention and becomes the new dominant archetype, manifesting it's association. This process keeps repeating it's self.

The incoherence in dreams comes from archetypes that are not as well defined, like the archetype of death for instance. Nobody really knows what happens when you die, and this half formed archetype usually leads to the dreamer waking up when they die. Like a computer program that call on a function that isn't there. It causes an error and the program crashes.

Yes indeed. There was a psychological experiment where subjects were shown an incomplete picture of a sail boat, where the purpose was to study how the mind fills in the blanks. Half of the subjects were shown the picture while there were paintings of ocean scenes hanging on the walls. The ocean archetype associates with boats, and this group got the picture right. The group that weren't surrounded by oceanic paintings could not tell what the incomplete sailboat was supposed to be.
