Sky's special correspondent Alex Crawford, accompanying the rebels, said the opposition fighters were greeted with scenes of jubilation as they made their way through the outskirts of the capital.

As they entered the city, their cars gridlocked the roads, she said, and hundreds of people came out onto the streets to greet them.

The rebels responded with celebratory gunfire, she said.

"We are now just a very short distance from the centre, with more and more people coming onto the streets.

"They (the rebels) had been expecting much more resistance but there has been very little.

Well folks it’s been a long time coming but it looks like the rebels are in the process of taking over Tripoli just now as I type. I would guess that by tomorrow we may see the fall of Tripoli and with it the fall of Gaddafi, it’s been a long term coming but it looks like that evil monster is finically getting his comeuppance.

Looks like this could all be over very soon

The question remains what will happen now and how much of a role did NATO have in the battle for Tripoli

Didn't Gaddafi try and use a scud missile and it failed.

Now a man with nothing to lose, in a moment of madness could just fire the others wildy.

From what I have heard, NATO is providing "not" close air support.

The sooner this is overwith the quicker we get to Syria.

Not unless Gadaffe is waiting and will unleash a mighty fart er weapon.

Its live on sky news right now, either they are in Utopia or they just showing films behind the reporter.

It will be interesting to see just how much of a role NATO have played in this, I can’t see them using helicopters but I do think they might have Special Forces in the city and have had air support. I recall earlier on reading about how the last remaining British nationals had got out of Tripoli, perhaps could have been a cover for covert insertion. I am just speculating who knows this story is still braking.

I am only allowed to watch the International edition of Sky News, since I'm not in the UK or Ireland.

Anyone else starting to think this has been a little too easy, it seems like Gaddafi’s army have run. Do they know something that the rebels don’t.

Yes Live so called reports from the lybian centre, The rebels dont know where to go or what to do. The guards of Gadaffe, have stood down. Loads of shouting and celebration, and gun fire.
