Do you really need a car to talk to your friends ? What about instant messengers, email, IRC ? All these alternatives are relatively safe to use.
I deal with internet marketing and from my point of view your facebook profile is worth a lot of money to facebook other people in the long run. Your single account is insignificant, but groups of accounts can tell a lot.
Facebook was caught selling information to market research companies without letting people know.

Im 100% with anon on this.

I've seen people here ask a weird question why would anonymous hurt "people" and not the government. Well actually the intention behind this is to keep people safe and take a great tool of mass control from TPTB.
The worst part of this is that people don't realise how important this wikipedia of people is. People don't think a harmless site could do anything to influence their or their loved ones lifes. But it can. You just don't know about it yet.

anonymous will be my hero if they do this.

Maybe Tom from Myspace is the real Anonymous. He's not so meek as he looks.

People either love or hate Anonymous.

If this Facebook attack should go through its going to bring a lot of people over to the 'hate' side. People that don't really know of Anonymous will all the sudden discover who they are by waking and finding their beloved Facebook dead (probably for all of ten minutes but anyway...).

My problem with this is Anonymous state they are "here to expose truths etc". People aren't going to see it that way when they can't log in and see if anyone liked their most recent status update.

Anonymous will be labelled vandals and public hatred towards them will only increase. A far cry from their "join us we're exposing the internetz for what it is" mantra.

EDIT: It is possible to backup your Facebook profile should you be concerned. Log in -=> Account -=> Account Settings -=> Download a copy of your Facebook data (at the bottom of the list that opens).

Good question... Maybe the people who use Facebook should be asked instead of just included in the plans to bring it down? It is not up to you or some little group who has to hide in the shadows to decide what the people can and cannot do without. Thats up to the people to decide.

Or are you saying the people dont have that right simply because this little group says so?

This group is speaking on behalf of people in an effort to bring facebook down simply because they don agree with facebook or its policies. Are they going to attack users who like facebook and dont agree with the action to attack it or bring it down?

Who is this group to assume to speak for the people? Is that not what this group accuses the government of doing?

so why would an organization want to make decisions for me. i thought this was some what a free country? in this day and age u should be able to do what u want to and if other people dont like it well fudge them. it doesn't infringe on there right so why mess with mine. for them to claim they dont like facebook well dont use it. dont do the wrong thing and get part of the population that somewhat supports anonymous to turn against u for your stupid actions.

You shouldn't be putting your true information out on facebook anyway. there's enough evidence out there tho prove that it is a CIA database which has tricked the user into profiling themselves, so that no laws are broken on behalf of the government. This is once again another government database being attacked by itself as a flase flag measure. No, Mark Zuckerburg is not the true 'OWNER' of Facebook. He may be the cretor but he was funded by the government, that's how he got to be so big. You never get to be that big, especially as a teen, in our country today without government funding. They just see to it. Anyway, again, Anonymous (or the CIA/FBI) will apparently attack their own servers again on Nov 5......so that they can increase the stranglehold on the internet that they want to steal from us so dearly. Everyone say "Thank You, Mr. Jay Rockefeller!". He is the one behind all of this and it is HIS masterplan. Wake up people....this is the internet version of false flag events.

Makes no sense for Anon to announce this paticular attack.... atleast not this far ahead. In January of 2011, Facebook reached ONLY 600 Million Users... that might seem like a lot but the world's population is 6+ Billion if I remember, so they're not really thresh-holding any kind of phenomenol number.

By the time Nov 5th rolls around, the Facebook Team, will have already had this information backed up to atleast 5 or more centralized server locations, much like Google does with your e-mail accounts.

Did you know that at any given point in time, one e-mail from your account is available in about 5 different areas of the world, copied on individual servers... thats each one of your emails, for every email in your account. You might think "Well that's just email they're small!!!", but you'd be suprised to know exactly how small your Facebook information can be compressed down to.

So, do I think Anon has the capability to take down Facebook? Possibly, but to what extent? A mere scratch in the paint or your common-day fender-bender. Give it a day or two, and Facebook will be running again, if not sooner, just from a different server, or one of the MANY backups that they will have by then now that they know some "combined" force is trying to shut them down.

When dealing with information, it's best not to billboard your attack, unless you for sure have every alternative covered. Information can move faster than any common novice will ever understand, and can really only be pictured intelligently as the mythilogical creature, deemd "The Hydra"

2nd...When you accept the terms and conditions of a website it is stated within those said terms and conditions what you can expect. If it is not black and white, well you have still clicked on an acceptance which would allow the website to use and distribute your information. Its all about marketing and sales. Regardless if they sell to the government or twitter, or casino game websites ro whomever. If you accept the T&C's youve given Facebook 100% complete access to do so without repercussions on facebooks behalf.

3- If you are that scared of having your info distributed so freely...use a fake account or get out and enjoy the nice summer day and stay off of ATS as its rotting your brain away!

If this Anonymous group really wants to make a difference, why don't they do something worthwhile like dig up some dirt on our politicians or evidence of dodgy dealings of these so called elitist bankers, like the Rothschilds or Rockefellers, so we can use it against them to put them behind bars. But please not facebook, if facebook goes down, it will be the end of the world as we know it not!!!!.... Now where did I put that hacking for dummies book.

People write every single detail of their personal lives on the INTERNET and they should be outraged to find that information has been abused? What the hell did they expect to happen? As I said, I think it's their own fault for making so much information about themselves so easily available. To cry about the inevitable is childish.

who is outraged? who is crying? no one mentioned either. if you take a few moments to watch the excellent YT video you will have a lot of behind the scenes information on what the owner(s)/management is doing. it was not that many months ago when FB users found out they were straight out lied to, and that their personal and private information was being used for profit.

the YT video is incredible. to see who is tied in to what alphabet agencies and where information is being funneled is an eye opener.

not every person online has your knowledge. like me, i was born knowing nothing at all and i learn along the way. there are millions of people who signed on to use FB that were assured their information would not be collected, used or sold. these very people take it up the tailpipe cradle to grave courtesy of government & religious leaders, the media, law and law enforcement. screwing them via a social website is just one more lie, one more bloody wound.

i hope someone shares that YT video with FB users to make them aware of what is taking place. i wish Anon good luck and godspeed in their attempts to continue to air the dirty laundry of the many who lie to the millions, who mislead the public, and who hide behind lies and illegal acts.

my only regret is that i'm not an ubergeek with mad hacking skillz. i wish there was somehow i could contribute. Anon gives me hope and fuels my spirit. hopefully FB will be decimated. when all have learned a valuable lesson FB can lie in its grave, replaced by a new social site where using real names and photo-images will be discouraged or banned.

Anonymous attacks last for only a few minutes to a couple of hours. Any website that they attack can just sit it out for a few hours and then it's back to business. Are there any website that Anonymous attacked that has been totally wrecked? There's none, as far as I know.

go online and read up on that site. it appears to many that it is not what it claims to be. i spent several very long nights there noobing around. IMHO, wanna-be splinter group. had to register to use, which seems reverse of an anonymous collective principle. just my opinion, but i won't be going back.
