Well I men that's not asking the right question. Although I guess I could say England is just one. 1000 years, lost and gained an empire, and still going strong.

What I said was that a consistently fair and balance empire lasts indefinably. But once they sacrifice that for personal power, they die quite quickly. Although in some sense they never truly die, becoming in many ways the goal of reuniting its broken former people.

Examples of this which I mentioned range in many forms. But first let me define what this so-called fair and balanced empire means. Basically it means a nation with a set of fair rules, a fair treatment of all, or at least so for the time period, and fair treatment of annexed clients.

Now examples of such include the Mongolian Empire, which fairly treated Christians, Muslims, etc etc, and had a decent set of laws. This nation continued to exist even after if split up because of its fairness, and many ideals of mainland China continued from this empire into the modern Chinese state. It's fair to say that most major nations from Turkey to China's rural areas have had similar temperaments because of the influence.

Another example, obviously, is Rome at its republic heights. These heights include times under Gracchi rule, times under the quite national socialist policies of The Caesars, both Julius ad Agustus, whom for the first time in perhaps a very long time managed to obey the people's rule without too much harm to the minority. Also under a few other heights. Obviously Rome had its lows, but what happened at the end was quite strange. Rome essentially evolved into the Catholic church, which in turn united in mind most of Europe, and in theory continues to exist in the form of a "European" identity. Indeed the European Union is only but a natural transition of this idea of Europe united going all the way back to Rome.

Other examples exist. Although to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if 2000 years from now there is a kind of "Khristlam" church that popped up and ruled America, and various nations in North America are signing their own North American Union, becoming the natural transition of what our own Empire is.

the thing is , from this thread alone and every other thread on ATS relating to America , whilst most of you go one about how you hate your governement and what it does and how it treats its people.
The large percentage of americans when push comes to shove love to brag about how mighty and strong they are
and how their army is the #!

How every other country is the weaklings and how we all need America to help them police the world and how we should do more and our share and our worth.

Whilst everyone else in the world couldnt give a flying monkeys ass about war and bombs, we dont want our government spunking all of our taxes on keeping the war machine and world police running.

I dont want my country to increase military spending , I want it to stop bombing and spend more on education , health , welfare ,the economy and scientific pursuit. Not defending democracy or protecting us all from big bad terrorists that were trained by some CIA black ops program.

You wonder why we all hate the american government and what it stands for , because it stands for DEATH , and if you support it so do you !

you stand for hate and everything that comes with it , it makes me sick the amount of gun crazy , war loving , 100% pure american patriots who love bombs and taking out the so called bad guy.

we brag how big and mighty we are when little ants like australia and europe brag about look at our economy america cant do that..

dont like your nose put in # then dont throw it at my door.. everyone is dying the day you are born, im sure the american government had something to do with that, amiright?

I wasn't just referring to media. Note i also said people who travelled there etcetera etcetera. I was more pointing out that the people of the world know more about America than Americans know about the world.

Ask an Aussie, or a Scot or anyone not American who the US President is - it'll take them 3 seconds to say it. Ask the average American who is Prime Minister of any given country and they'll be furiously checking Wikipedia to find out. I'm not saying ALL, but the majority of Americans I have talked to know jack-squat about Australia beyond Crocodile Dundee and throwing shrimp (It's PRAWNS by the way) on the barbie.

My point is, many Americans claim they are the greatest, the best nation on Earth yet they know so little about the world they are comparing themselves to.

Your petty attempts at insulting Australia and Europe are merely reinforcing my point about your ignorance about the world outside your window.

I will respond

People attack America not for its wonderful American Ideals or its American dream ,
they attack America for the way it tries to cling onto that dream .
They attack America because no one likes the evil empire .

and everyone knows the empire will always fall given time, just like the brittish empire
and every empire before it.
This is Americas time right now to shine in all its world destructing glory
and the way the US government sees it they wanna go out in a blaze of glory
and the American people are sadly along for the ride, just like the rest of us.
Like it or not America is calling the shots for the time being, and being hated for it
is just nothing but colateral damage as are the innocents killed creating the empire.

I dont hate americans , just the government and the people who are blidn enough to follow them!

Sapien82- I disagree on- About 99% of your posted rant!

In my opinion, the United States of America is not an evil empire. Though the U.S. has made plenty of mistakes along the way. [I live in Maryland, USA.] Except for our Indian conquest, the U.S. stands as a symbol for freedom and democracy throughout the whole world.

The U.S. is under constant daily cyber attack by foriegn governments [China, Russia, North Korea,] to name a few.
They are especially interested in our military technology like: Drone, stealth and missile technology; where the U.S. is fighting a losing battle.

Some terrorists- Sometimes backed by foriegn governments, willingly attack our country: Like 911, embassy bombings, murder, genocide and kidnapping; mainly because of our military and economic support for the state of Israel.
As long as the U.S. supports a regime that subjects the Palistinian people to imperialism, colonialism and apartheid; we will be the target of terrorist attacks.

Cheers,

Air,

Please try to keep in mind that Australia has been punching far above her weight class in almost every field in an attempt to help the US (and other allies).

She operates in an environment (politcal and cultural) that is far different than anything you have ever dealt with. And she does it daily with very little complaint.

I, for one, am very grateful for Australia and her continued support.

Look, I completely agree that IF an Empire existed that treated everyone fairly, oppressed nobody and prospered greatly, it would be a momentous achievement in the history of history. But saying the US is anywhere near these standards is a leap at best and an outright lie at worst. While it may have started off looking to be a Utopia, it succumbed to corruption and rot within.

im sorry.. i been doing the very same thing i said the other guys been doing, generalising everyone..

the thing that kills me though is that australia is actually on u.s side! but ppl their seem to think that we are sooo bad we cant do anything right, yet they support us? im not sure what political or cultural role they play or how big it is but im sure its nothing compared to the decisions america has to make. so if you want me to realise that then at the very least realise what it is that we do, and its not about making ppl lose homes or taking over countries.. its about equel freedom, not just at home but around the worls.. sorry if thats meddling..

Yet even with them, its powerful, and the people are slowly gaining back their rights. What you speak of has only really existed in America 3 times. Once with Andrew Jackson, whom basically quite literally shot it dead, on and off around the late 1800s up to 1929, and again around the 50-70s, on and off since then.

It happens. Every empire I listed goes through periodic hijacking by douche bags. But quite frankly, it's an outright lie if you think this is the end of us. By doing what they have done in a time like now, they've only united the people against them. The United States is hijacked, but even while hijacked it continues to do good because, simply, it's too big to control.

The hijackers are losing power, and once again they will lose it.

America was designed to periodically collapse and start over. To some degree this is a trait inherited from England. And I do believe this is a primary reason both nations have lasted for so damn long.

well when you make a statement that the "majority" dont know and you dont have a link to prove it, im going to shove my foot up your ass.. not everyone is smart but to claim that over half the ppl dont know is an attack on my ppl. not many here will defend america not even those that live here like you.

For the third time - what we are trying to do is offer constructive criticism. At least that's how it starts off until some American comes along and claims it's hatred, or badmouthing or jealousy and sets the whole thing into a downward spiral.

I do not hate Americans. Never have, never will. I do get extremely frustrated at the sheer thick-headedness of many Americans, I get angry at some of your attitudes, yet never have I ever expressed hatred for them.

Yet without fail an American will ALWAYS turn what I am saying into an insult on them and their country. This is yet another cause of extreme frustration.

If you want to be a superpower and police the world then be prepared to accept criticism. It's not that hard a concept to grasp.

mate! no.. dont come on here now acting like " oh im just criticising leave me alone" the # you and your ppl say are not criticising in anyway.. you want to criticise then pick a subject explain what happened then tell me how your country could have done it better. even though that will lead to the "just wait to see what happens then form an idea"

you want to pretend that the world is a pretty place with nothing to worry about then fine, thats on you since all your country does is care about them selves, selfish bunch..

you want to criticise then do something other then patrol the waters. with great power comes great responsibility.. lol that was a cheesey spider man line but still..

and if its ALWAYS happening then that must say something about you... or is that too hard to grasp?

Think what you like mate, no amount of repeatedly saying it's hate will make it hate. Never have I ever said I hate Americans and you cannot prove it.

Why is it that you cannot take criticism?

Nice try. This isn't a "my penis is bigger than your penis" conversation - no matter how much you try to make into that.
