It would be the height of irresponsibility if we didn't at least try to clean up our own mess and leave you with a functioning, stable government in a country where people can go to mosque and pray without fear of being blown to smithereens by a rival sect as they are on their knees in worship

You are saying it but I disagree.
I think that they should learn for themselves to solve their own problem . It is a matter of time and you will see that as long as American forces are in Iraq they won't find any settlement.

Let me define some thing important :

There are ignorant and common numb stupid people in every nation . The main difference between these people in Iraq and America , is that in America these people have already find a way to settle down by being entertained and manipulated by MSM , but in Iraq they are not being controlled and they have some religious potentials. So these potential fools are found by the specialists , they are brainwashed and paid. So they go bomb their own country men.

My option : they should be manipulated by their own government.

I'll say it again in case anyone missed it: The U.S. invasion of Iraq was based on lies by the Bush administration, had NOTHING to do with 9/11, and the Bush/Cheney cabal needs to be prosecuted for murder, war crimes, and treason.

That being said, the invasion did occur and we as Americans can not avoid the responsibility for the damage we caused.

But can you imagine how we would be hated even more if we left the country in shambles, or how many hundreds of thousands - if not millions - more innocent Iraqis would die as a result of a sectarian civil war? Not to mention the fact that it is just not right!

I was in a curio shop the other day that had signs saying, "You break it, you bought it!" I believe the same principle applies in this situation. By invading Iraq, we destabilized a country and opened Pandora's Box. Allow me to mix my metaphors to say it is our responsibility now to put the genie back into the bottle. If we leave Iraq before getting the country back to a semblance of what it was before we invaded, then we would be responsible for even MORE death and destruction from a guaranteed civil war.

Call me a dreamer, but the solution to a peaceful Iraq is in partitioning the country; after all, the current borders were drawn up with no regard to the reality on the ground. In the north are the Kurds (who deserve their own homeland as much as anyone,) in the middle are the Sunni, and in the south are the Shia. These groups will NEVER live in peace; they have hated each other since the death of Mohammed, and their hatred is murderous.

Here is a map of a peaceful Iraq:

A responsible plan would be to create a homeland for the Kurds in the north, including parts of Turkey and Iran. In exchange, Turkey would finally be rid of their PKK problem; Iran would be compensated by allowing them to annex the southern part of Iraq where the population is majority Shia, just like Iran; and the Sunni center, unless they wanted to remain a free and independent state, could be annexed by Saudi Arabia which is also nearly all Sunni.

Of course this wouldn't be necessary if the Iraqis could learn to live in peace with one another, but I just don't see that happening. The Sunni/Shia rivalry has been ongoing since the death of Mohammed and will continue until God returns to set things right. IMO, the only alternative to partitioning the country is for Iraq to have a strong central government capable of keeping the violence in check; which is the current plan (in which I have little faith.)

My friend this whole thing has been a mess, and going back to your OP I feel that the majority of Americans feel the same way I do: we wish the war had never been started in the first place. Not only have your people been hurt by the war, but ours have too. Our leadership has wasted our treasure and, more importantly, the blood of our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines; just because Bush wanted revenge on Saddam for the failed assassination attempt on his father, Cheney wanted to give his company Halliburton a Christmas present, and "they" wanted control of the oil, paid for in U.S. Dollars (See the blog post I authored back in 2008 for proof.)

If I had the power, I'd put Bush and Cheney on trial tomorrow for treason. Since I don't, all I can say to you is I'm sorry. If it would bring back a single Iraqi child killed in this custerf#ck of a war, I would give my own life in exchange. Since I can't do that either, all we can hope for is to prevent any more innocent Iraqis from dying, and that won't be possible if we leave before you can run the country yourselves.

Well said sir. Not much I can add to that other than to back up your statements.

I think that keeping the country united and in the current form is the best you could do. I do know that Sunni and Shiah they have basic disagreements , but be sure that having a dominion based on the their common belief could lead to a stable settlement . Like in Iran they should learn how to solve their problems behind the tables. This is the main problem of these people . They have been oppressed for years and there hasn't been any time for them to learn these treatments.

Be sure that no one likes the country to be separated . Like you don't like America to be separated into 52 independent countries.

I think that the problem of them should be solved and they should learn how to accept their differences. Having a country separated will help those who use divide and conquer tactic. So it is not good for any side of those Iraqi groups.

Actually, America IS composed of 50 independent, sovereign states that have chosen to come together as a republic. The governor of each state is the "Head of State" that controls his own army (National Guard) and police force. We can cross the borders between states without having to stop to show our "papers" because we have a tendency in the U.S. to live and let live.

In any city in the U.S., one can walk down a street and see a mosque on one corner, a church on another, and a synagogue in between; and no one is in fear that a visit to their site of worship will be their last because some numbnuts wants to blow it up.

I hope that one day, Iraq can enjoy the same privilege. I don't hold out much hope for a growth of churches and synagogues in Iraq, but if the Sunni and Shia can just learn to leave each other alone and worship as they please then I would consider that a win.

They won't learn any thing , until there is no teacher to learn them.
