I just wanted some opinions on what is happening in this video, it's a Russian SWAT team practicing taking out a bus that has been hijacked.

At the 10 second mark one of the team runs up to the bus and seems to hit it with a stick like thing that pretty much destroys the whole bus, but leaves they SWAT guy standing.

Anyone know what it is?

It looks like the guy exploded for second.

I really dont understand what happened, the bus gets destroyed but the guy is safe. and the people on the bus are also unharmed from the looks of it.

I dont get it. what just happened?

Looking at it in slow motion I thing its similar to a lacrosse stick with a grenade (or C4 or whatever) in the sling. As he's running up to the bus it appears that there is a small basket at the end and the actual explosion happens in the back of the bus.

Here's the slowed down version on youtube.

And yes - it's awesome!

Looks like a bangstick to me. Used to carry one like it when scuba diving in case of sharks or other bad swimmers

i have a pretty good idea.... Its a breaching charge on a stick....

The worst place to enter anywhere is the doors.... its always best to make you own through a wall. thats what they did. Although thats a really small bus to use such a huge breaching device....

Looks like a percussion explosive on a sling of some kind. If you notice as he approaches the bus the stick bends to add force to the contact. Delivery man gets a star for not blowing himself up, I'll throw in an extra for the ninja roll out of the blast zone.

The most baffling thing for me is the destruction of the bus compared to the non destruction of the people. I can't really get my head around it at all

Looks almost like a flash bang on a stick. Pretty cool though. If it is a practice bus they use all the time maybe the doors and windows are easy to break.

The bus is a pressurised container (or can be thought of as one) and the air inside is expelled with great force. The people outside are protected because the air disperses the blast. This is why firing a rocket launcher/recoilless rifle indoors is deadly due to overpressure, but safe outdoors. Also, the windows act like safety valves, releasing the pressure.
hope that helps.

its a hostage rescue demo, whoever set the charge on the back door used way to much c4, as for the stick, probably had a flashbang on the end.

I think you are talking about a Bangalore torpedo? maybe. I don't know why they call them torpedoes, but they are about 4 ft. long and have about 10lbs. of TNT in them.

As for the charge they used, I don't know. but it was way to hot for that little bus.

The stick is probably a mechanism to deliver an explosive.
basically he walk up to the bus and uses the stick to smash in a window
and pushes a trigger on the stick that drops the explosive into the vehicle.
But I'm only guessing with this
