Well the widely held belief is that it wasn't that the reactor was running, it was due to the huge pressure build up from the rods melting, then blowing a hole in the reactor casing releasing a radioactive vapour cloud. Nothing, nothing to do with the reactor running.

I have been following this thread all day since I woke up this morning and it has at times been more informative than the main stream news - well done all !!

By the way - I was just wondering if they couldn't have built the nuclear plant any nearer to where the known and active fault line is - it's almost on top of it

Looks to me the whole of the pacific region is in trouble. Earthquakes in Japan,Volcanoes Erupting, Tsunammi;s, Earthquake near mexico,although not confirmed.

so this 6.6 is a separate quake? and not an aftershock?

35 days after the last large magnitude quake in Japan, Mount Fuji erupted killing thousands. Will this happen again? Is this just a warning for Japan, or is Japan going to dissapear off the map?

I was reading, and I searched for several minutes anything that I could find about Mexico. All I was able to find was articles which mentioned the Tsunami warnings in Mexico, that are because of the Japan quake. So please provide a link to the source where you are supposedly getting this information.
