There are still more reactors (4 more, I think, at other locations) without power that they are struggling to keep cool, those were the workers I was actually referring to. After seeing the video of the explosion at reactor 3 I don't know how anyone could have survived being inside that building. Just a horrific scenario from end to end. Every official statement about how little radiation is being released reeks of artifice and trickery. I understand they are trying to avoid riots and mass panic, but I don't believe it for a second.
I'm so glad to see the Tsunami threat was lifted after no wave appeared.

For all those who think they know that the nuclear tragedy in Japan won't affect anything outside of Japan, please read this article, and start reading (as I am) the papers of Timothy Mousseau regarding the 1986 Chernobyl incident. Science still doesn't know the full extent of the effects caused by Chernobyl's disaster, and probably never will.

So the Volcano erupted in January and again several hours ago...

Some very weird images of that earlier eruption

Another tongue twister of a volcano, Shinmoedake, is currently erupting in Southern Japan. Some great pictures are turning up on the web, including this amazing set on BoingBoing. Apparently this is the highest level of activity seen from the volcano in 300 years. I hope everyone is safe and well in Japan!
