The truth of the matter is the government does teach us. The government has been in charge of the public schools for almost 100 years. That's the main problem with conservatives, they always leave out important facts that conflict with their version of reality.

Oh and if you don't think they use it for propaganda purposes just think about the pledge of allegiance. They make you pledge allegiance to a flag. Then there's this website that I created that exposes another peice of propaganda used. thegreatbartersystemlie.wordpress.com...

Yes. The Feds have had control of our schools for a while....FAR TOO LONG!

The results are far from spectacular as well.

Leave the control of schools to be where they belong. LOCAL CONTROL! We DO NOT need the government feeding our kids with crap!

Don't be surprised if you see Michelle as a "candidate" for office in the
future. Not saying for what, just saying.....

Here's one - the point of this thread:

I am not sure if there is a language barrier or what here but I will try this another way.

Can you show me one post in this thread that supports the government controlling or dictating what we eat?

Hopefully the underlines will help you better understand and offer up a relevant response.

ETA: It also might help to keep in mind I was asking someone who made the claim specifically about people on ATS so uh...I hope that is not a confusing detail.

Well, when the federal government has total control over school lunch menus, and what is in the vending machines, I'd say that is a pretty big giant step for government. The camel's nose is under the tent.

That is one solid example of government intervention in our children's diets. If that is not "controlling or dictating what we eat" then what is?

You cannot deny it, though you try to dance around the issue.

Your comment here:

I was pointing out that the Feds are attempting to dictate food, and added links to those initiatives.

I am not sure you understood what I asked. I did not ask for examples of the government trying to dictate or control what we eat. Let me repeat myself. Can you show me one post in this thread that supports the government controlling or dictating what we eat?

You seem to be big on context so please take a look. One poster said that it was sad to see people on ATS SUPPORTING the government controlling and dictating what we eat. I still do not see one post that shows anyone on ATS SUPPORT the government dictating or controlling our food.

Sorry but you got the wrong slope.
I said I do not buy the slippery slope argument that suggesting we eat healthy will transform to the government dictating what I can eat. I asked for real life examples of such a thing.

The slope you are talking about is how a social program became a financial boondoggle. That hardly shows me that First Lady suggestions translate into laws determining what food I can grow and buy. There is a big difference between arguing a slippery slope from a suggestion to gestappo enforcement

and

a slippery slope from benefitting the people to financial ruin.
Two TOTALLY DIFFERENT CONCEPTS. Failure of any social program does not shoe me in the slightest that Michelle suggesting a salad can and will turn into anything more legislative.

Uhmerrka! Free Market! Capitalism!
Send your kids to private school if you want them to eat fried crap every day. What is the problem? Public schools are PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The government has been deciding what they want to serve at their schools since the beginning of socialized education. Pack your kids suett fried wheels of cheeese. I see nothing saying you cannot. When I went to public schools many years ago it was the state that was running the school deciding what they served. Are you trying to make tater-tots a state's rights issue?

Get your kids out of socialist schools first, commie!

That is one solid example of government intervention in our children's diets. If that is not "controlling or dictating what we eat" then what is?

You really do not know how to pack a lunch for your kids? Can you show me where they deny you the ability to send your kids off to school with a sack butter and pork fat for lunch? I see nothing of the sort.

Deny what? Seems to me that you are so busy relying on the government to educate and feed your kids that critical thinking about what that actually means has kind of slipped away.

If you can honestly tell me that the government deciding what the government is going to serve on government menus for government lunches then I full expect to see thread from you about all the other institutions that also decide for themselves what food to serve in their own kitchens.

SEND YOUR KIDS TO PRIVATE SCHOOL!
Stop expecting the government to feed and teach your kids. Spend a dime and do it right. That is what America is all about!

Funny! My 10 year old granddaughter packs her own lunch. I take her to Whole Foods - - - she does her own shopping - - - including reading labels for - fat - sugar - salt content. You don't do everything for them - - - you teach them to do for themselves - - - as soon as they are at an "age of awareness".

I find that more than funny. Correct me if I am wrong but you seem pretty liberal. Now you say your ten year old granddaughter is smart enough to pick out healthy food and pack her own lunch.
It is funny given that I was just responding to conservatives that seem to be losing their head because they are not sure how to pump their kids full of pixie sticks and mozzarella balls if the PUBLIC school they send their children too do not serve such things.

Illuminating to say the least.

I have been into health food since the 60s. I raised her mother on health food. She was raised on health food since birth. I am on a sugar free diet. She has learned to shop by shopping with me. Its not about being smart (although she is). It is about being aware from the beginning. And Yes - she does go to public school.

I just find it so odd - - that anyone would object to awareness of healthy eating.

The only problem I have with Michelle Obama taking on the national obesity crisis, as a role model, is the size of her butt.

And the only problem I have with Sarah Palin being the spokesperson for anything of national interest, is the diminutive size of her intellect and her knowledge base.

Michelle hasn't done anything different from previous first ladies. They all act like spoiled rich ladies because that's what they are.
I have no problem with Palin's policies but she is as dumb as a rock. She's just like the rest of America! Perfect fit for president.
Did she completely forget that the government is in charge of our public schools? The government has been teaching us for almost a hundred years.

Sarah Palin seem to represent everything the world thinks of when it comes to the American people.
She is what the average American is like. Americans will deny this but just look closer.
Truth hurts.
Sarah Palin is there to stay until the American people change their ways.

I was making a sly remark in regards to Nancy Reagan coming out with the Just Say No to Drugs campaign. If you knew a little about it you would realize that drug use in this country skyrocketed in the 80's. There's plenty of evidence that the CIA is the major drug smuggler in the U.S.

Prisons were then and are now still being built as fast as they can to hold the "criminals" who chose to alter their brain chemistry. You see, you bring drugs in and sell them. Then, you arrest the people who buy them. They then pay fines. Or, in a lot of cases, they go to prison. Now, the prisons are built by people who lobby for them. Really, I'm tired of typing. Just look the stuff up yourself.
