This weird critter was found in Northern Ontario, Canada. One of the locals said they lived in swampy areas and fed on beavers! I have no idea what it is, could it be a hoax, mutant, fetal animal of some sort or some entirely new species? Anyone know or care to guess?

Some pics:

Nothing in the pictures to tell me how big it actually is.....

I've never taken the fur off of the face of a slightly decomposed albino otter or badger before, but maybe......

Creepy, OP

Looks like a River Otter to me.

Possibly some sort of skin disease affecting it's face and paws. River Otters tend to feed on fish and occasional crustaceans. Both of these are know to retain pollutants quite readily...

Yeah I've seen these pictures before too. I would say it was some sort of Plum Island creation.

But it was found washed up in Ontario, so... maybe not.

most likely an otter that was decomposing and lost some fur.

I believe they found it out to be nothing more than a mink. I could be wrong, but I am almost sure that is what it was.

Wiki Link

Seems to match up quite well. But I could be wrong!

I thought otter at first. But after looking at other pics of them, They have webbed feet. This animal in this post does not. And the fur looks longer than an otters. I will go look at some other pics to see what i can find.

When I saw this thread title, I wondered if it were for real or if it was some kind of joke thread. Shows I just can't keep my mind outta the gutter.

BTW, here's another beaver eating creature that's out there but, I'm not sure if this one is from Canada or not.

This one has been on ATS at least twice before:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

and I recall an article written in the summer by a zoologist (I think) who demonstrated that it was an otter with some decomposition. I can't find the link now, if I run across it I'll post it for you.

Yup, sorry about missing the earlier post. Some more info: it was dead/decomposing and pulled out of the water by a dog and was about 30-centimetres long.

The otter theory seems to be the best fit. You guys are good!!! I will have to come up with something stranger next time.

I saw the title and thought, "I haven't been to Canada!?"

Oh man saturday nights

It's weird.

I've already seen similar images of a debunked unknown creature posted up here long ago.

It's an otter or weasel.
It's decomposing.

Although it is posts like this that make these threads worth while:

The article mentions a mustelid (the weasel family). They also say, because of the location, to be either an otter (specifically, a North American river otter Lontra canadensis) or a mink (an American mink Mustela vison). Because of it's smaller size they concluded it was an American mink. Well done guys.

OMG, I didn't even think about the beaver eating implications hehe
