Governor Christie Responds to Teacher during Town Hall Meeting

During a Town Hall meeting in New Jersey, a union teacher comes up to the podium and engages Governor Chris Christie in a conversation about the teacher lay-offs. She begins by telling the Governor that due to the administration's budget cuts, she'll have trouble paying her bills this year. Well, the Governor responds in the appropriate manner.

It's fairly obvious that many Unions have been a complete drag on our society lately. It's rare to see politicians standing up to them, so seeing Christie rebutting this Union teacher is very refreshing to me. It's time somebody said it like it is! It's time Unions were put in check. It's time Unions stopped bing such a drag on the state and tax payer. We need someone to step in and put a choke collar on Union leaders to make sure they don't go around extorting our local and State governments. People need to understand that we need a balance, and we can't have one work force receiving insane benefits and salaries, where the bill for them is then footed to the starving tax payers and local businesses.

Why should I go broke paying taxes so that some Union teacher can keep her job, continue to receive raises and full benefits while the private sector is dying off, and the private sector people continue to lose their jobs? Sacrifice millions of people so that a few thousand can continue living as if the recession never existed? No thanks. California now has an unemployment rate of 12.4% and the State Workers Union refuses to budge. Down we go, spiraling into deficit like never before, businesses closing or moving out of California, and their answer is to raise taxes. How bout you stop paying the outrageous benefits to Union members? It's unsustainable!

Yes! Damn those super-rich union teachers! Their highfalutin lifestyles are destroying America. But they don't care; up there in their giant mansions and castles...

Might want to check what working conditions were like before the advent of unions.
So you are taking a big government position against the common mans right to assemble and organize.

Well, you shouldn't. And you aren't and you wont.

You think teacher's benefits are 'outrageous' and that paying taxes for an educated populous is unsustainable?

its a cliche, but so is your argument, so: "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance'"

So it wasn't the giant fraud perpetrated upon the states, the state's hedge funds, the citizens, the citizen's pension funds, the citizen's banks, the citizen's 401k's, etc, by the rapacious financial sector, that has purchased our government officials and brought financial ruination to the USA.

It was them dang unions!!

Misleading the citizenry into union hating is the tool of the elite, using their media to misinform you and turn you into a group of "useful idiots". This is what has happened to the Tea Party. This is what has happened to union bashers. This is what has happened to many well meaning conservatives.

On the other side of the supposed spectrum, you will find many well meaning progressives angry at religious folks, gun owners, Constitution adherents, etc. All "useful idiots".

You are being used. The experts who are tasked with spreading propaganda and disinformation are very good at what they do, and what they do is intentionally divide the population over political issues x, y, and z, while a criminal cartel of bankers, bureaucrats, and industrialists steal your wealth and your country's wealth from right under your noses.

When unions were at their strongest in this country, so was the middle class. Your hero Reagan all but delt the power unions had a death blow, and they have grown weaker ever since, as has our economy. Your hatred of unions is hatred of yourself. Hatred of a strong middle class. Hatred of having good jobs to work at that will support a family. I remember when this country built things. I remember when a man could get a good job and get paid a good wage for a hard days work. It wasn't that long ago. Unions were a big part of that time. Now when we are falling over a cliff, out come the very people who have been hurt the worst of all, defending the very crooks that stole from them. It just goes to show you how powerful propaganda is.

Unions and public unions aren't the same.

Government employees are servants who serve - they should not have Unions. If they don't want to serve, then they can quit and someone will take their place. If they want to be in a Union, there is always the productive private sector.

i am very familiar with the myriad problems with the California school system. Regardless, it doesnt mean that school teachers are the REASON california is having financial issues, which is the premise of the OP.

So your kids can get a job that doesn't require them to ask "Do you want fries with that"?

Unions, both public and private sector, don't care one bit how their salary is paid, and where the money comes from, just as the teacher in this video proved. They are totally ignorant of these facts due to them feeling they are untouchable because they have the union behind them.

Yes the state of the economy is the fault of teacher's unions as opposed to the fault of the politicians who have been bought and paid for by corporate and banker interests years ago. C'mon people.

Thanks eh.

A star would have sufficed, but I'm glad you felt the need to take things to the next level and express your intrigue.

It was truly enjoyable.

The problem with this is some people are treating it as a whole picture trying to make placing blame on one party seem absurd and ridiculous, rather than a jigsaw puzzle with many pieces or players. No, the teachers' unions are not the entire fault of the economic downturn the country is experiencing. But, being a player in the game of government expenditures they are a piece of the puzzle.
