This should now be resolved.

One of the drives on our database server filled up with log files that should have been rotating out and automatically deleting. Our tech support firm has removed the old files, and will be researching why they didn't auto-delete.

It turns out the log file grew too-big too-fast because of a high rate of failed log-in attempts. So, it's safe to start worrying again.

Could that mean that someone was trying to "crack" accounts?

High rate of failed log in attempts?

Probably not... just yanking the chains a bit.

Our support firm has been seeing a lot of brute-force attempts from a range of IPs out of China over the past few days on a majority of servers they maintain. We happen to be one of the targets, and it's exceptionally unlikely that there is an specific intent to target ATS... in fact, nearly impossible for reasons I'd rather not detail. Let's just say, we take the security of our data seriously.

It had nothing to do with activity on ATS... the log-in attempts were from a few IPs attempting to gain root access to the server.

Edit to add...

Our firewall has been hardened to ignore the specific type of "attack" going on... so there's no need for concern.

Would it be possible to get the rogue IP range in question, I would be interested to add it to my router black list. I too take security seriously...
