"The Vice Guide to North Korea" is an in-depth documentary by a hairy American from Chicago of life in NK. (Filmed December 2008) http bit dot ly slash 16yt2Z
~
"BORN AND RAISED IN A CONCENTRATION CAMP" is the story of Dong Hyuk Shin, a 26-year-old North Korean (one of an estimated 200,000) born and raised in a concentration camp (BTW, you can see the camps on Google Earth). Shin was born on Nov. 19, 1982 and called the camp home until 2005. While at the camp, he endured daily beatings, torture, starvation-level rations, saw forced abortions and even witnessed the public execution of his mother and brother in 1996. Shin described his life of total isolation from the world until he was able to escape in 2006.

Not according to the official NK state media( I posted this in another thread but it's more fitting in this one lol)

So what? So what if they started it? Are you trying to tell me the Truman Doctrine had nothing to do with our involvement in the conflict?

That the only reason we even went there in the first place wasn't to stop the spread of communism and the Soviet influence?

North Korea is a self-described Juche (self-reliant) state

They did it to themselves. Juche failed and they now find themselves the odd man out as the rest of the world moved forward. Communism bit the dust. The Soviets are gone and China is now capitalist.

North Korea has long maintained close relations with the People's Republic of China and Russia. The fall of communism in eastern Europe in 1989, and the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, resulted in a devastating drop in aid to North Korea from Russia, although China continues to provide substantial assistance. North Korea continues to have strong ties with its socialist southeast Asian allies in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.[57] North Korea has started installing a concrete and barbed wire fence on its northern border, in response to China's wish to curb refugees fleeing from North Korea. Previously the border between China and North Korea had only been lightly patrolled.

Truman Doctrine stating that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet sphere. Do you see in there were it states were it's ok for NK to invade SK? No you don't. The reason once again why we were in the war was because WE WERE ALLIED WITH SK.

Umm... you do realize that the Korean War was, in fact, a U.N. action, yes? That in addition to asking Truman for help, they enlisted 15 other countries?

Oh, forget it... instead of the money, can we just send you?

Yeah but not suing for peace lets them use the rest of the world as justification for their twisted ideology and keeps the regime in power. And let it justify it's constant military buildup and move to nuclear weapons.

If they weren't brainwashed from birth to death that we're the enemy and they suffer because of their resistance to us they'd probably realise Kim Jong hasn't actually had any decent policies and isn't a great leader and kick him out.

But they aren't going to know that while there is a state of hostility, closed borders or lack of trade.

Look at this way. Lets say we declare peace tomorrow, lend them $5 trillion and drop all sanctions and open trade. They sure aren't going to be spending that money there. They're going to start consuming items from outside. And inevitably they would also start consuming our culture via Neo imperialism.

American culture is incredibly powerful and so it its media. It wouldn't take long for them to formant unrest. And even if they didn't they've gotta pay that money back somehow so they'd need to get jobs and start producing and exporting.

Any kind of cash settlement is way better than having to fight the end of that war. It will be a bloodbath of epic proportions.

This demand is probably designed more for home consumption than anything. By claiming NK has been damaged by the US to such a degree he can seek to absolve himself of responsibility for the state of the country.

And with total control of the media the people will buy it.

And there's nothing like a detested enemy to ignite patriotism, boost the leader & fuel war-mongering...

BINGO!

He knows full well the U.S. will only scoff at this request, and will not even momentarily consider it. This request is being made exactly for the reasons you state......and I predict it will be successful. It will continue to keep "his" people in a state of hatred and ignorance, and psychotic
admiration for himself, while he parades himself around the country like he is a god.

Yes I do realise that and I've also said I think the UN should pay if anyone does. And that my country was also there so it should in some way be liable.

I've also said I think the Chinese and Russians are liable and should pay reparations to the South. And possibly the North too.

Once you get all those players onboard even this figure of 65 trillion isn't so much. Not that North Korea would get that all in cash upfront. It would probably come in the form of trade deals and aid from all the countries involved.

I think the amount should be much lower.

And there isn't any reason it couldn't come in the form of loans with deferred payment either.

If all the other countries did this. Then North Korea wouldn't have any excuse and the onus for change would be entirely on them. And there would be little risk of seeing our boys fighting there again.

Or worse, fighting with China because some tin pot dictator decided to nuke South Korea, which would be a disaster.

You wanna send me over there? Fine. I'll pay the guy $10 every time he doesn't threaten war because the wind blew in his general direction. It's worth at least that much for them to just shut up and get over themselves.

I also think that if there was to be money given in reparations, it would need to be conditional on North Korean disarmament and dropping it's nuclear program. And now I sound almost exactly like where diplomatic efforts have been for decades now.

Under the rules of war. The victor has the right to claim reparations from the loser, just as the allies did against Germany and Japan.

So yes North Korea is actually legally entitled to claim these damages. There is no telling how much lost income the democratically elected communist government has lost during all these years of war, and the splitting up of the peninsula to keep idiot Americans safe from different ideologies and races.

Oh noes the communists! The Asian hordes! Wow this guy is a crazy lunatic dictator and he's insane!

Listen to you fools you're the crazy lunatics. You say the same stuff about every single country you invade and destroy and I've been listening to it all my life.

The sad truth is most Americans are too stupid to even know they've done the same thing over and over again nearly 60 times now. Exporting capitalism and debt like any other terrorist or communist would have exported their failed ideologies with your disgusting Neo imperialism.

I don't mind some Americans, but honestly most of you are monsters no better than the Israeli's or the Nazi's or the Communists and you're even more dangerous.

THis is the mentality that will start WWIII and under this mentallity others will atk the US and under this mentallity the US will atk your nation(s).

Starts with 1 changing there outlook on the US to change the outlook of others yet our leaders do the US no good but please do not blame us as we are only given courrupt people to vote for and with only evil on the ballot only evil will win.

I know that and I don't blame you. I'm painted as being anti American but I like Americans. I just don't like their foreign policy or the government they have. And I do agree that you, and me both are victims of corrupt and evil governments, and the only way out of this is to somehow regain control of our own countries before we're dragged into a war we can't win or our economy and way of life is destroyed.

I don't want to see Americans or Australians die from biological or nuclear weapons just because of some stupid grand chess board. All sovereign nations should have the right to exist however they want within their own borders. Including the USA and North Korea.

But when we go around trying to police the world, or decide what sort of government is acceptable or who can have what. How are we actually any better than the people we're supposed to be enemies of? We're the tyrants now.

The USA used to be about support the right of self determination, and life, liberty and happiness. It said that all men are created equal.

What went wrong?

Everyone that buys into the sabre rattling and rhetoric only makes our problem worse.

And I don't know about you but I don't want to fight and die because of "communism" I don't care. I don't want to lose my money and savings and live on rations to fight against a government that was there before I was even born for reasons that no longer matter.

Do you?

Kim Jong Il might be an insane madman. But is he any different from Bush or Obama or Brown or Cameron or Howard or Rudd at the end of the day?

Fact is we've got a lot more in common with the people of North Korea than anyone here wants to believe. We've got the same problem they do, insane megalomaniacal leaders and a media that spews propaganda to maintain the image and power of the elite and the establishment.

This is great - of course they know the US won't pay - but they have made the charge, and tallied the bill. I think this is great - go KJI - serve them notice lol.

It would be interesting if he tries to go through the UN or some other legal process to establish some credibility for the claim - this is gold.

It has to be done through the UN.

And it has to be done through the 6 party talks. That is the only avenue open to him. And yes he can have some money in the form of aid and loans. But he has to disarm and stop with the Nukes.

We've been playing this tit for tat for a long time now. But I'd really like to see it resolved before it comes to another war.

I'm afraid they may not get that money, maybe they should just do what the U.S. does and print 75 trillion pieces of paper with Kim Jong on it.

I laughed so hard, I started a coughing fit.

$75 trillion, huh. Going to a country who has issued a crackdown on CELLPHONES. Use one, and you're executed. How about we do ALL of NK a favor and take away their despotic govt and give the whole mess to SK instead- let the people actually LIVE.

Will someone please go in and spank that ridiculous little fruitloop of a dictator? PLEASE?

You know, my friend suggests USA sends N Korea $75 trillion worth of nukes. USA may not have $75 trillion worth in nukes but USA can arrange a monthly plan with Kim.
