yes that is typical typical for people that do not think farther than their tea pot !!
they want no State control, no State intervention, no State legislation for better security or whatever, but when such a catastrophe happens they are the first to stand up on their tea pot to call for more State ( control, etc .. ) .
Get off your POT, you tea party potters !! Drink some PETROL, natural product, very good for the skin and the boops !!
They still think that Corporations like BP or Halliburton are acting for their wellfare, for their beautiful eyes, for their place in the sun ..... BP and Halliburton just think about making as much profit as possible, nothing to do with responsability, no money for security, just PROFIT, big PROFIT, VERY BIG profit !!!
Can you clean all that mess up with dollars ? NO !!
This is very very very sad !! Go to hell you bastards killing our oceans !!!!!

Katrina is "man" vs "nature."

BP Oil spill is "man" vs "man."

Big difference.

The fact that oil's starting to reach in to the marshlands and could have been stopped if not for the Army Corps of Engineers doing nothing other than rolling out the red-tape is disgusting (www.youtube.com...).

It could have been stop if BP Oil didn't rely on the U.S. Government to fix their mistakes. BP Oil should have had their own fleet to deal with the situation.

You might like Obama's response, in regards to diplomacy:

“Yes, we are clear-eyed about the shortfalls of our international system,” the president told graduating cadets. “But America has not succeeded by stepping out of the currents of cooperation. We have succeeded by steering those currents in the direction of liberty and justice, so nations thrive by meeting their responsibilities and face consequences when they don’t.”

Don't you like how that sounds?

Granted the US Government is ill equipped to tackle this unthinkable yet inevitable consequence of the reckless disregard of our environment by BP.

If the U.S. Government intervenes in private affairs, that would be what many on ATS has called "socialism."

Is that what you want?

I want the leak stopped.

The end would justify the means to me.

Thanks.

I say it is time to IMPEACH OBAMA.

What a ridiculous idea. For someone with pretensions of intelligence you sure do come up with some simple minded ideas.

This isnt a party issue. It would not be going any differently if McCain were president. Both parties have sold themselves out to the highest bidder, and both parties are beholden to big oil.

This, as well as the economic collapse and our governments response to it, IS a political wake up call. But it is NOT a call to deepening the partisan divide that is making the raping and pillaging of America and her Constitution possible. It is a wake up call for us to see the divide and conquer tactics for what they are, and for us to come together as a nation and demand reform of our electoral system so that we can seize control of our politicians back from corporate America.

You are not calling for change, no matter how emotional your plea may be. Partisan division is the status quo. We need real change, and that change needs to be the unification of the American people against corruption and the corporate takeover of our government. We need our government to respond to us, the people, not to the corporations that fund their campaigns.

Shows that you have simple ideas too, mccain could never have won, he was there to lose.

Obama was president and he claimed a few weeks before he wanted off shore oil drilling, and then this happens, and you think its a good judge, lol.

I just read that White House doesn't trust BP any longer : Ken Salazar says BP is not able to do what they have to do and anyway do not know what really happens .... pitty BP, pitty managers, poor little BP " experts " ... yeah : experts in # and stinking results !!
but the money in their pockets still gets rising, they get lots of dollars while the fishermen and tourist sector etc etc are dying !!!!
in JAIL with them !! immediatly !!! 1/ for poisoning the people 2/ for no assistance to people in danger 3/ for lying about security 4/ for pollution etc etc .... IN PRISON as soon as possible !! In other countrys they would be hanged !!!

You know, you may have a good point, and I may even be simple minded, but I cant tell unless you clarify what your point is, and elaborate on HOW you feel I am simple minded.

Are you arguing that Obama is the one who wanted off shore drilling? Because the whole "drill baby drill" chant was about pursuing more oil exploration in the US including off shore oil.

OR-

are you claiming that because Obama was less supportive of offshore drilling that this was a plot by his people to both cause the spill, AND to hinder efforts to limit the damage it causes? Perhaps they did this on purpose JUST to make the idea of offshore oil exploration look worse for some reason?

Or are you claiming something else altogether? Its hard to tell when you write just a few hasty lines and put no effort into elaborating your idea.

So the oil coming out of the earth was created by man? If this was man versus man every other oil rig would be gushing oil, not just a single isolated freak incident.

As for New Orleans, we knew the limitations of the flood-walls when Katrina hit. We had the opportunity to prepare, but we didn't. Very similar to what's going on here. Preparations could have been made, but they weren't.

This is a failure on everyone's part, but no one wants to take responsibility.

Or, it is a success on the part of environmental groups who have been warning for ages that something like this could happen and crying out for stricter control of off shore drilling.

I notice that no one wants to give them any credit for having been right all this time.

We have let one groups pursuit of profit, (oil industry) endanger not only the environment, but a lot of other individuals and groups livelihoods as well. And, it is highly unlikely that we will make BP pay the bill for their mess. We are going to let the residents, and all the small businesses ( as well as the environment and all its creatures) pay the price for BPs mess. We will likely fine them some insignificant amount of money and they will go on their way.

Sadly I agree with everything you just said. I can only hope, in the future, environmental groups are given more room at the table.

The storm cloud got just a little bit darker...

Amazing the hypocrites of the left, and i did not like either leader. But the left media, went after plank of wood bush so bad, while leaving obama to just ignore this problem for the most part.

Funny you bring that up. I was recently taking a stroll down memory lane to revisit an old thread to be reminded of who all the Drill Baby Drill idiots were. I came across this post from last February. This is prophetic. This guy nailed it.

I haven't read all the post,

Why is it people thought 9/11 was an inside job, is anyone thinking along those lines now?

This disaster is the perfect crisis to further Obama's agenda.

Add to that the slow response, and the corp of engineers failure to do anything, seems suspicious to me considering his green agenda.

Exactly. The shortsighted cry for "jobs jobs jobs" in the oil industry forgets that little accidents like this put whole regions full of people, whole industries full of jobs and all the economies that depend on them at stake.

Often times environmentalists are portrayed as being the enemies of employment. But as this little eco-disaster is making it all too clear, sometimes protecting the environment IS the most job friendly approach to take.

So essentially because the oil is already out of the earth there is no cap on how much can be drilled (because it doesn't need drilling) and BP at some point can just 'scoop' it up, barrel it up and sell it, thus making a lot more money than they would if they only drilled the capped amount?

Makes sense i suppose.

No, that is not the reality of the situation, big oil runs our nation Obama knows why he can not step on big oil toes.

And BP is a big oil corporation with a lot of influence even more than we the people will ever have.

If Obama ever gets its head of the butt of BP then he will be able to take matters into his own hands.

Right now, BP rules in the gulf and in Washignton, once he takes over but if he does the whole thing will also fall in the tax payers hands.

I'm sure they wouldn't cause something they know they wouldn't be able to handle, as BP alone can't even handle one of their own.

Why doesn't BP have the proper fleet to handle this in the first place?

The problem is, Obama cant get his head out of the butt of BP or any big financial concern for that matter. Nor could any Republican president in this day and age. No candidate can be elected president in America without corporate money, and that means corporations own our government.

If "we the people" want our politicians to serve the people, and this country, instead of serving corporate interests, and in this case, may I point out, INTERNATIONAL corporate interests, we need to get corporate money out of our electoral system. Now. We can sit here and blame the presidents all we want, but unless we fix campaign financing, we will never have a president that will do what is in our best interests.
