She's blowing, for sure - the movement is definitely stuff being thrown about

So much for me saving some bandwidth and doing some work today...

So you are saying KATLA is erupting? perhaps not extremely as geologists say it might? But it may grow in intensity?

Whats the current concensus and what are the experts calling for?

I'm under the impression that Katla, nearby the existing activity has been producing some measurable activity and does usually accompany the local eruptions. I understand the blast is more likely to be larger than the current activity.

Is this assesment accurate?
Thanks,
john

Nooo, no, no - I am purely talking about images on the Katla webcam - AFAIK nothing happening at Katla itself outwardly. I think they moved the cam to show the current Eyja action.

I think this is Eyjafjallojokull. I didn't see any flares last night on this cam and have no idea what, if anything, it means. You can see it for yourself:

Just to clarify...USGS says earthquakes all over the world of 2.5 and above. Wasn't aware that Iceland was excluded. Am aware that Katla is triggered by seismic activity at E. That was my concern.

Are you still watching - massive events going on up there - can see quite clearly the lava being ejected - best show so far at night I think

I'm still watching. I can't turn away for a second, though I'd like popcorn.

Looking at the Hvolsvelli cam - there appears to be another plume coming into view from the left... if it is, it's huge.

Yeah I notice that, I thought it was just cloud until I saw your post and it does look very much like a plume.

Looks like it's going to be a nice day in Iceland. Where is the huge plume going 6km into the sky though ? From the webcam feed it looks like it's dropping down the mountain to the ground

Beginning to look more like early morning fog / mist now I think...

Katla cam is still showing a large glow.. what could it be? Eyja?

I kind of hate the Katla cam. Hard to tell what we're looking at. People who are very in the know at the Eruptions blog, however, say (just a couple of minutes ago in the comments) that there's no activity at Katla.

I agree it is pretty weird looking. Either it's Eyja or it's just the sun coming up.

I dunno that second possible plume looks too consistent to be fog or cloud but I'm no expert on those things so I don't really know but it does look very similar to the Eyja plume (still confused why the plume isn't rising :puz

Thanks for the Katla cam, howcome it's in black & white ? And I think the glow is daylight/sun rising ??

I just looked at the Eruptions blog as mentioned above and they are having this discussion, seems it is fog and those there seem knowledgeable about it.

And yes, the Eyja cloud is sinking down to ground level..

No activity for Eyja as I can see on this cam.

eldgos.mila.is...

On Hvolt I think we only see clouds. If it was an eruption we would see a rolling effect while here the coulds keep their forms and just move from left to right. My guess of course as from this kind of distance hard to judge.

Actually,
Having some doubts about what I just wrote. Saw some rolling effect and openings where we saw the sun through closing. If eruption is it is in the middle of our screen just above the house and it is not Eyja.
