Report: EPA To Declare 6 Gases A Public Health Risk

www.npr.org

Why Legislate When You Can Regulate?!

The Environmental Protection Agency has concluded that carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases are a danger to public health and welfare. It is the first step to regulating pollution linked to climate change.
The EPA also will say tailpipe emissions from motor vehicles contribute to climate change. The action was prompted by a Supreme Court ruling that greenhouse gases must be regulated if found to be a human health danger.

Why wait for Congress to have hearings, debate c"climate change," and take votes in the House and Senate to enact "Cap and Trade?"

The Obama Administration has decided that the easiest route is to just say it is so and move forward!

EPA can now establish whatever constraints it desires on tailpipe emissions, CO2 and the other 5 GHGs that it "finds" are harmful to human health.

Better look around and see what you do that releases CO2, CO, methane, et c. to see how you're affected.

First thing, though will be all those nasty gas companies and power plants that cause CO2 and other GHGs to enter the environment.

Hope you've saved up for your summer utility and gasoline bills. You may want to think about a second mortgage or home equity loan now under the "Housing Reforms" and "Stimulus Package" so you'll be ready.

Maybe they'll let you pay your electric bills in installments.

Thank goodness we have Obama, Chu and Browner watching out for our health regardless of the expense!

I'm going to steal a reply from one of the links that you posted because it sums up what I wanted to say very well

"The Supreme ruled in 2007 that the EPA could regulate green house gases under the Clean Air Act after a lawsuit was brought to force the EPA to do so.

Bush in his wisdom, told the EPA to come up with new rules but not to implement them during his administration.

Even though Bush said he believed in global warming his actions say the opposite. He never acted when several lawsuits said the federal government should and could do something to enforce restrictions on green house gases. Instead it was still voluntary.

Now the EPA doesn't have to go to Congress. It might have the power to put cap and trade in place without Congressional approval."

Stop blaming all this crap on Obama. Attack this issue and your more effective. Don't fall for the trap in making everything be a partisan discussion when the issue is the real focus of importance.

If you've read these threads, you know I've posted half a dozen AGW-related threads.

The issue IS Obama, because (as I pointed out) instead of going through Congress and hearings, he is side-stepping the process through his EPA.

Bush didn't "tell EPA to do it after he was gone," he just told them not to do it. He has no control over EPA, Obama does!

"Cap and Trade" are part of his budget, but he's decided to leave out details and just asked for a funding amount without specifics.

Now, EPA can regulate his ideals into reality.

Bottom line? Get ready to pay dearly for lights, heat, gasoline, and everything else that has to be shipped or delivered using fossil fuels.

You asked for it - you got it!

All in the name of a fraud: "Man Made Global Warming." Do not try to whitewash it with another amorphous name - it is AGW and we all know it. Most also know it is a fraud.

To sum up:
Such regulation would have widespread economic and social impact, from requiring more fuel efficient automobiles to limiting carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and industrial sources, changing the way the nation produces energy.

The EPA has concluded that the science pointing to man-made pollution as a cause of global warming is "compelling and overwhelming." The blame goes mainly to carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels.

The six greenhouse gases "pose a threat to public health and welfare," the EPA has determined. It also will say tailpipe emissions from motor vehicles contribute to climate change.

The EPA action was prompted by a Supreme Court ruling two years ago that said greenhouse gases are pollutants under the Clean Air Act and must be regulated if found to be a danger to human health or public welfare.

The Bush administration strongly opposed using the Clean Air Act to address climate change and stalled on producing the so-called "endangerment finding" demanded by the high court in its April 2007 ruling.

Congress is considering imposing an economy-wide cap on greenhouse gas emissions along with giving industry the ability to trade emission allowances to mitigate costs. Legislation could be considered by the House before the August congressional recess.

out of everything going on, this is going to prove to be huge in the long run and definitely should be on the hot pages....

I can't wait till i start getting my $400 utility bills and seeing my taxes begin to look like a cellular phone bill with all sorts of itemized taxes - one of which will be CO2 emission.

*sigh*

i have so many thoughts on this subject that i can not coherently pull each apart at the moment.

Well my friends, when a human exhales in the act of BREATHING......we omit co2! What will they do about that? Maybe we will all have to hold our breath so many times a day and then exhale into so kind of device.
The culprits is too many humans on the planet!!!!!!!! That's really not to far fetched, is it? People live longer these days.

Can anyone find the 5 other gases?

Yes this does sound truly horrible. I couldn't stand living in a world with more fuel efficient cars and power plants that produce what they need to but not emit as much waste. That's far to horrible of a future!

This is the type of stuff that spurs innovation. I guess my glass is just half full today though. I should realize I need to drink the doom cool-aide before logging in.

since you are unable to "generally" contain your CO2, i am sure they will just tax it - a tax you can't argue with or get out of under any conditions. That's the clincher. Its a tax of living in its basic form. Don't think it will happen...Let's watch...

Its the perfect way to go - once everyone stops smoking due to a pack of smokes being $10-$15, the powers that be will just shift it over to a "personal CO2 tax" which will be called something softer to push through the channels.

It's even worse than that.

CO2 is what EVERYTHING on this planet who has a pulse, humans and animals, exhaled. When plants die, they produce CO2.

So it's a tax on life basically. If you breathe, you gonna be taxed.

From the sci-tech encyclopedia:

CO2: A colorless, odorless, tasteless gas, formula CO2, about 1.5 times as heavy as air. Under normal conditions, it is stable, inert, and NONTOXIC.

The decay (slow oxidation) of ALL organic materials produces CO2.

In the respiratory action (breathing) of all animals and humans, CO2 is exhaled.

It wouldn't be the first time the US government is going against science and common sense for his political aims.... just like the Soviet Union did.

You think the trains are no loaded enough? You're an enemy of the state because you want the rail infrastructure to be crushed so when a war comes, the country can't defend itself.

Later they loaded the trains 4-5 times more following a Lenin law.

You think that the trains are too loaded? You're an enemy of the state because you want to stop the socialist economy and don't believe in the decisions of our great leader Lenin? TERRORIST!

Same thing here. You're against taxing life? You hate the earth, environment and nature. How dare you go against the bought and paid for scientists of the UN!

This should have a large impact on Dairy Farmers, Cattle Ranchers and Taco Bell? Methane kills!! Once they figure out a way to tax and regulate it, all will be well once again.

What happens if there isn't enough C02 in the air. Is that even a possibility.

Why tax it anyways.
Wouldn't it be simpler to invent something to help the situation.

More and more I feel that simply existing on earth, is a huge burden to everyone. Ergo I should be taxed.

Are they going tax crazy now because we have the huge debt? Because, putting american people in debt isn't going to help. Debt debt debt debt deficit in the red, poor credit. Sums up everything about now.

And there are statistics saying that everything is pretty normal right now. Following the patterns, so I'm just completely confused.

If anyone has a video they could U2U me, or reply to this, to explain this Global Warming, taxing it, etc, to help me understand, cause its all mindblowingly absurd, and i'm sure somewhere it makes sense why its all being exploited.

Well, probably farmers and ranchers are going to be taxed per head of livestock if they hold over 25 head. I believe the rate I read was about 150 dollars for each cow/steer/bull. And 20 dollars per pig. Other livestock fall somewehere in between those limits. I can't remember where I read this, I read a lot of newspapers today.

Maybe humans can be taxed according to lung capacity.

the others that come to mind are carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O2), sulfur dioxide/sulfrous oxide (SO2), methane and hydrogen sulfide ("rotten egg gas").

Note that ALL of these occur naturally. So, ask yourself how much of the taxes you pay are for things the EARTH is doing to itself!

Those, I'm sure of because they've been discussed as among the most IR (infra-red) absorbent.

Others would most likely be components of exhaust from coal fire or natural gas fire. Mercapton is a gas they add to natural gas to give it a characteristic scent, but I don't know if it has any direct effect on IR absorbtion itself.

It won't be hard to google the others.

It's amazing how incompetent one group of people can be. When will they learn we can't destroy the planet we didn't create? So tired of hearing these people speak. I agree completely that we have harmed animals and plants and ourselves and a great deal of the earth but to say we might destroy it is the greatest arrogance I've ever heard of.

That's already a done deal. USDA and EPA estimate that the additional cost per head will range from $50 to $175 per year.

Net results? No small diary or cattle operations. Beef, pork, lamb and milk costs up by 20%. You will be eating Monsanto Beef and drinking Archer Daniels Midland milk.

This is no joke.

Throw in the Safe Foods Act and regulations and there will be no small farmers, organic farms or farmers markets.

You will eat corporate food and drink corporate milk and juice. Independent producers? That's so yesterday.

Please be sure to send "thank you" notes to Barack Obama, J. Kellogg, Dow Agro, Monsanto and your congressman for watching out for your health.

The government will take care of everything. Do not ask any questions.

Drink some KoolAid.

Look what you've done to my Country!

Let's start with NOT raping the rainforests for profit.

Rainforest Often described as the Earth’s lungs, only in reverse, the tropical rainforests, take in vast quantities of carbon dioxide (a poisonous gas which mammals exhale) and through the process of photosynthesis, converts it into clean, breathable air. In fact, the tropical rainforests are the single greatest terrestrial source of air that we breathe.

I have family in Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska and they are not taking this lightly. The small farmers have been pushed and shoved for years. Most have surrendered their farmsteads and given up.

A couple of my relatives used to work for Farmland Industries before Farmland was squeezed out of existence. I could go on ...

My Czech immigrant grandparents farmed in Nebraska all of their lives. My Dad and I have a game ranch in Texas. We are all going to be affected, and not positively.

This is the end of life as we know it and I do not exaggerate.
