I see this as socialism on a personal level, exactly the direction we should be going, but not on a government level (which I think should be avoided at all costs).

Helping only means something if you CHOOSE to do it

It's called private charity and has always been fixing the messes government made.

As a side note, is this good Samaritan going to be paying her tax bill too?

Loose a house to the "evil" bank (who most likely shouldnt have made the loan in the first place was given incentives to do so by the government) and people get all huffy and up in arms. Loose it to not paying your local tax bill and you're called a deadbeat by those brainwashed to think government can do no evil and taxes make the sun rise and the sky blue.

What a lovely story! It may start to become obvious in the future as to who are willing to help mankind and...obviously those who are not!

What goes around - comes around. Even if all we can do is feed someone who does not have the food for dinner. Open our hearts to someone who needs to talk.

One of the worse things IMO is saying to someone struggling: "Why don't you just go out and get a job!" "Lift yourself up by the bootstraps!" Or..."You shouldn't feel that way."

Right, this is not socialism, but it does fly in the face of what capitalism is all about and I'm all for it. Let's call it COMPASSIONISM and let it become the foundation for what this country should become. It must be clear by now that capitalism is fueled by irresponsible and uncontrollable greed which will always lead to bad things. So down with CAPITALISM and up with COMPASSIONISM. It shouldn't be the governments responsibility to distribute wealth and promote equality. We should not be dependant on the government at all, that's is what socialism and communism is all about(GOVERNMENT DEPENDANCE) instead we should depend upon ourselves to make a better life for the whole community. This is the only way I see the sustainability of life, liberty, and happiness which is what this country was founded for.

They(BIG GOV) don't want this. They want people to be divided over trivial issues and dependant on them, not unified and without need for them. They want you to care only for yourself and not to think about the less fortunate, because after all that is what capitalism is all about: Getting ahead of everyone else.

Let us change.

I dont believe most people understand what socialism really is while this may or may not be a case of a good social intention its a really nice thing to have done. Socialism however has nothing to do with the former soviet union china or cuba which were all totalitarian regimes not run for the people but for the corrupt few in power true socialism has yet to be seen. The fear of socialism really does have everything to do with fear its self and a lack of understanding.

Marilyn Mock, a small-business owner from Rockwall, Texas

Without capitalism, Ms Mock wouldn't have been in a position to help anyone.

First of all this is a great story and the lady who did this will be blessed.

Now, the free market society we live in provided her with an opportunity to run her own business. I am not arguing for or against socialism, but lets call it like it is. Free market capitalism has been very good for the little people.

It is big business and corporations that do not like it and want the politicians to tax the hell out of them so they can't survive.
I seriously doubt any government or big company would bail a person out of this situation unless it meant a commercial or TV time promoting them.

Finally a nice story

Something to cut through all the race and war crap for once. See, not everyone wants to make this planet hell, even if most people believe otherwise.

Flagged and starred.

Great post. Thanks for sharing it. It's heartwarming to see someone doing something nice for a change. This is what news should be.

I don't think this has to with government systems in any way. Why must everything be dragged through political BS? Take it for what it is: Someone doing something good.

These are dark days for many people and this story put a smile on my face.

Socialism? Capitalism? This has nothing to do with the story. "People need to help people". That's all there is to it. Regardless of the economic system in place, there will always be have and have nots. Some people will be doing great while other people will be doing poorly and it is our responsibility to help others when we have the means to.

+1 for Ms Mock!

That is a wonderful story!
It chaps me that this country would rather toss a family out in the street and let a house rot down than to try and help people! We need more stories like these!

Then you get the people who abuse the system. Or are you saying that mortgage companies should help out those who can not pay the loans? If then, I completely agree.

Great story. Brightened my day a bit.

YES, YES, and YES. I really dislike how people assume that the only kind of socialism is the Soviet Union. IMO, socialism can only ever work if everyone in the community is willing to do their part - sort of like how you don't do dishes to get money, but you do dishes so that you and your family have something clean to eat off of for dinner. (Which is why I don't ask for allowance in return for doing simply what has to be done, though dishes aren't the best example.) I mean, capitalism could work, too, if everyone did it with the welfare of everyone else as the incentive rather than money (which is just an added benefit you get). But in the end, us humans are greedy and will cut corners and sell dangerous products just to get an extra hundred dollars in our bank accounts.

Ahh, this story has rekindled my trust in human kindness! (And I'm far too young to start being cynical and distrusting of my fellow humans!)

I had only to read the title of this thread to understand the incredible generosity of Human Spirit that exists in some of us.

Given the knowledge of 'predators' such as Bernie Madoff (and, yes, his name is pronounced "Madoff", as in, "I Made-off" with $50,000,000,000 --- until I got caught) I am inspired by stories such as this!!

Thank you! Thanks to the OP of this thread, for pointing out something nice....

socialism:
1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

Read the definition of socialism, and then tell me that`s what you want. I didn`t see anything where it says that it means helping others.
