Norwegian doctor: Israel intentionally targeting civilians

rawstory.com

"Just a little bit more than an hour ago, the Israelis bombed the central food market in Gaza City and we had a mass influx of about 50 injured and between 10 and 15 killed," said Gilbert, on the phone with Sky News

"At the same time they bombed an apartment house with children playing on the roof and we had a lot of children also. This is really like from Dante's Inferno. It's like hell here now and it's been bombing all night. Up till now, close to 500 people have been killed and the number

Rarely do I watch the "evening news" but I just happened to have ABC on and they had an Israeli spokesman on who said the goal of the military operation was to terrify the population of Gaza so they wouldn't think of launching a rocket in the future. I wish I caught his name, but I wasn't paying close attention until what he said registered.

no wonder, they don't want the media there or the UN or anyone else for that matter.

It is a closed door situation. Like in an abusive marriage, horrible crimes are committed behind closed doors.

sad but true!

That is a rather shortsighted and flawed perspective if indeed that is what the Israeli Official had in mind. Collective punishment is as bad Hamas launching rockets killing Israeli civilians due to the actions of their government. Such things never work in the long term and only tend to entice more violence.

It's amazing how the U.S. is the only one who vetoed the UN resolution. The only one, and yet we wonder why the rest of the world frowns upon us.

This whole situation makes me so damn sick! There is no good that can come of this, either the rockets from Gaza or the Israeli attack. There is no such thing as "clean fighting" and the price is paid by impoverished civilians with nowhere to go. I think this quote from the article says it well:

"So, this is a poor and very young people and they are able to escape absolutely nowhere because they can not flee like other populations can in wartime. Because they are fenced in and they are in a cage. So, they are bombing one and a half million people in a cage. And young people and poor people and, you know, you can not separate between the civilians and the fighters in such a situation."

There is no "right" here....only "wrong" on both sides. For Israeli leaders to believe they can erode popular support for Hamas by scaring the populace is madness - we (the US) have demonstrated that to the world in Iraq; all that will be accomplished is to drive more "normal" citizens to extreme beliefs.

May God, Allah, Yaweh....be with the children and unarmed populace of both countries through these terrible events.

Well like has been said so many times before if the information we are getting is correct Israel will unwittingly make so many new enemies they are going to be asking themselves who was the idiot that decided to bomb all these public places, and hang him out to dry in hopes it decreases the increase in terrorism in their country.

Your link does not say what your Title says and that is a violation of ATS Rules as well as the new rules posted about posting on the Israeli/Hamas war.

The story says children wee playing on the rooftops of houses. Did Israel tell those parents to put their children on the rooftops when there is a WAR going on? Did Israel not warn everyone about what was coming? Is there Palestinians that are not aware that Israel is bombing Hamas targets?

Any children playing in the streets or rooftops or whatever now is the fault of Hamas and the Parents, no Parent that loves their child would allow them to play outside during a war with rockets and missiles flying, one can only assume this is another way Palestinian parents like to kill their own kids for ALLAH. They strap bombs to them sometimes, they kill them themselves sometimes for such things as a girl getting raped, the girl gets killed not the rapist. And now they have their kids playing outside in a War Zone, any sane person would say that is insane and Israel is NOT at fault for any dead kids from playing outside...

I am reporting your Post to the Mods for removal for violating the TOS of ATS...

I've been watching that Norwegian doctor for about 3 or 4 days talking to various media outlets. The guy is a hero as far as I'm concerned. He's performing his duties in a place most of us would never step foot into.

I'm afraid I cannot support Israel at all on this. The anti-war movement in Israel has been effectively blacked out from the international media. It is bigger than one can imagine.

You do bring up a good point. What parent in their right mind would let kids play on top of a building during a war when bombings have been occurring.

From a planes perspective you see people on a roof chances are you think great more rocket launchers headed our way and take them out.

Either propaganda, or really stupid parents in this case I have no kinds and the thought never even entered my mind lol

But at the same time during war propaganda goes both ways so hard to tell what is or isn't.

As someone with a nephew currently fighting with the IDF in Gaza, I object to your publishing obvious propaganda like "children playing on rooftops" statements. As another poster said, who would allow their kids to go up to the rooftop during a war when bombs are falling? As for all of the protests about schools being hit, there is no school in session there. If schools are being used to store weapons or for Hamas to hide in, then they are just buildings and not "schools" at that point. Several schools (not in session) have been hit and badly damaged in Israel, such as the kindergarten in Ashdod and the middle school in Beersheba, but you don't hear much about it.

They shoot the missles that kill the kids then they are at fault. Sort of like if i get into a gunfight with somebody and i accidently shoot a child... Can I blame it on the other guy? It's easy for Israel to clean the blood off their hands using this technique, but it only works on the weak minded.

But you are right, who lets their kids play on rooftops during a war? They are almost as bad as people who shoot kids playing on rooftops with rockets.

Um... what part of the TOS did he violate?
Or are you just upset because he doesn't agree with you?

As for children playing, yes, the parents were responsible for allowing the children out in the open during this mess...

... but inside or outside, bombing an apartment building will likely kill them regardless.

Uhh... no. ROE's should never be that loose. The Israeli's have the equipment and the training necessary to distinguish between unarmed civilians and a mortar team; even between children and grown men. You simply don't bomb people with no other justification other than they might be terrorists. Any commander authorizing such, knowing full well the situation in Gaza, should be court marshaled.

Was that sarcasm? Are you saying terrorists all dress the same? I have a hard time with your posts.
Interesting how they use the mouse on the left hand to have the trigger finger free.
