You seem so educated on political philosophy. Perhaps you can educate me on what socialism and communism really is in theory. It's not often I see people approach this subject with such respectable open-mindedness.

The problems with socialism and communism, is us. We are why the two systems fail. Because we are corrupt and greedy, because we want what someone else has, we want to take it from them, and we want to crush them underfoot so that they never have it again.

This too, is the flaw in capitalism.

So what is the difference you ask?

Socialism and communism, allows for the people at the top to quitely and secretly divert assets to those at the top who want these things, but cant afford them, or cant be seen with their hand in the cookie jar.

Capitalism, on the other hand, allows those at the top to give us the bird and laugh at us because they already bought off anyone who can stop them.

Whats the common denominator here? people... people doing bad things for bad reasons... for the worst reason infact, because they can.

As a model, with all things being controlled by set criteria, socialism looks bright and shiney. in practice, it is just as flawed as anything else.

ALL this having been said, i am an adamant constitutionalist. i belive that the US constitution allows for liberty, coupled with responsibility. there is no greater power in the world then liberty...

What was it Stan Lee said about great power?

Alright lets get going!

I like many live in a large city, 'getting off the grid' is much more difficult for me. There are few resources and they are poorly collected.

So to get the discussions going I have started a forum.

cusp.freeforums.org...

Please stop by, join, and contribute. I need help running the forum and once we have a group going we can plan the direction of the group.

Hello all,

Here is my take on steps over overgrowing the monetary system.

Im a computer programmer, so i tend to be more 'layered' when it comes
to project anything, thus one effect after another, rippling changes to
all the systems outputs.

Ok, enough geek talk and lets start.

--- TIMELINE: TODAY ---

0) Our hero is an engineer of any kind (pref. eletrical). It must be.
The whole thing is based over this single premisse;

1) Our hero does NOT quit his job; he makes things work for him; thats
another basic particularity of the system presented;

2) Our hero currently own/buys land not far from the city, land wich much
rain decently (later info on this) and HAVE EASY ACCESS from the city (later info on this);
6 acres (600 m2) are fine;

3) The first thing is to be familiar with renewable energy and its pitfalls;
The first source to be buyed (yes, we are still in the monetary system) and
used in the guys backyard should be something like this: www.raw-solar.com...
by those great guys features.csmonitor.com...
If anyone knows a more cheap feat. please post.

4) Our hero should understand how to convert steam to eletricity and
understand how the solar power oscillates; heres a start:
en.wikipedia.org...

Our hero does this on weekends and talks with other tech guys by the internet;
Again, no one quits his job;

5) After fiddling around, storaging of this energy should be investigated
for rainy/cloudy days, with solutions of vanadium:
en.wikipedia.org...
and likely solutions from molten salt:
en.wikipedia.org...
Again, if anyone knows better solutions dont keep it to yourself;

6) Our hero also knows the need to automate and no human being should
be dedicated on watch-response the system; He builds from scratch small computer
parts that should shutdown or restart the storage unit when input if far/below
the expected range;

--- TIMELINE: (plus) ONE or TWO YEARS ---

7) With experience on this solar cell, the land should be ready to be used; so
he start to build everything over his land;

Our hero now should get more than one solar cell, and thus learning how to
reproduce this on a broader scale;

our hero is a tech guy, he will be registering everything because he knows that
this project should be copy from other heroes later on;

8) With 3-5 solar dishes and storage working fine with almost every component
automated (he only goes out 2 times a week to the land) he can now start to write
the whole project down for other to copy in the internet;

--- TIMELINE: (plus) ONE or TWO YEARS ---

9) Our hero solved half of the energy problem; the thing is, solar power is not
too much reliable and is difficult to scalate; its time to ADD a new system;

10) Our hero started this project knowing of the resource based economy, thus
he comprehend the need to address the most human part of the whole thing: FOOD;

11) But the thing about food is the need to prevent insects that will contaminate
the food; he learns that hydroponics REDUCE EXTENSEVELY the need for fertilizers and
chemicals to prevent food contamination:
en.wikipedia.org...

12) So, he needs water but thats charged also in the monetary world; the next thing
to build are closed tanks to gather RAIN and thus getting a water storage unit;

13) He learns from other in the internet on how to mass produce food:
www.portalhidroponia.com.br...
(translate this portuguese by google language, it works)

14) But FOOD is energy; So he understand the process of biogas www.biodigestor.zzl.org...
and here en.wikipedia.org...

posted on Oct, 19 2008 @ 06:51 PM
link
(continuing)

15) So, our hero understand that he can produce energy and food; he builds a
biodigestor with his constant use of hydroponics;

16) he learns how biogas can be compressed and storaged (i need links to this!);

17) He uses an old car, powered with biogas, to produce eletric energy, and at last
have a scalable energy power;

--- TIMELINE: (plus) ONE or TWO YEARS ---

18) After learning everythign and optimizing everything, our hero now has the ability
to produce frre food and deliver free energy;

19) From word of mouth (neighbors and co-workers), our hero now states this:

"Bring your electric/biogas car to my land to fill up its tank, and if you have any materials
(construction mostly) to DONATE we can deliver always more to everyone and will be
a persistent contribution to the future"

20) In the start, people who can donate anything to scale up the farm, gets a kit of
food (our hero must have permission to do this);

21) With the expansion of the system, our hero distributes food and energy for free, and also
receives donations of materials (NOT MONEY) to keep it up with the demand;

--- TIMELINE: (plus) ONE or TWO YEARS ---

(this last part is dreamy, forgive me)

As stated in some of my other posts, to really start the thing we need doctors.

In this current system, people come with their cars, get biogas/electric and food,
and go back to the city;

Why not get free health checks by volunteers?

Also, our hero goes to his land neighbor and convinces him to allow his land to extend
the energy and food processing, storaging and distribution;

Also, our hero starts to wants to implement some free transportation from his land to his
neighboor.

What you guys think?

RP thats brialliant, and thats exactly the type of transitionary plan we need.

Why the hero though? Can we not all band together band become that hero? I can understand alot but in the timeframe we NEED I think this is something we need lots of people on.

Can we use this great invention the internet to organize these steps? If you were to put your plans up and we were to disect the parts and develop actual blueprints so to speak could we not get this done together?

I made this form cusp.freeforums.org... with a focus for urban environments but I think your idea fits in, if a group of city dwellers were to get together and enact your plan ourselves.

We are the hero!

I'm not entirely up to date on this, but is it not illegal to sell, share or otherwise distribute the electricity you make? i was told that recent changes to the laws have stopped these practices

Is it true that electric companies are no longer required by law to purchase your electricty surplus?

Good question, I'm trying to look that up but not having much luck, another example of the information needed.

We could determine locations where we can and cant, countries even.

Edit: www.google.ca...

There are some places up here in Canada it seems. This could be something we demand of our politicians.

Hi,

Feel free to post this text anywhere you want.
Im in process of buying land BTW.. hehe

Saw addendum again today, and im decided to make copies
of it and bundled with 'The Corporation' and 'Rise of politics of fear' to our local political movements (mayor election day is near, everyone is being 'political' in the last 2 months).

But in the end of my thinking I think I just discussed of a Utopia, and a Utopia has a value if it remains what it is, a dream, inspiring but only a dream. I'm sorry for those that maybe took it too seriously, its a moment of crisis this 2008, and I'm having a personal crisis too. I hope reason will prevail in the world, and dreams will always lie in their right place, the mind.

Take care, its difficult for everybody.

Explain that life philosophy to every great discoverer and inventor. To every artist and revolutionist...

Explain that to the people that created the the milestones of our society. Explain it to all the people of our pasts that envisioned enough that we even have the World we have today!

Stagnation is death. Keep moving. Keep dreaming.

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

.....i would mind being a part of a cult however the monetary system we use is wrong and invalid and society is wrong if we where to use a monetary system let it be that of old...where gold and silver can be used to trade goods if required

cause we all know the venus project would never work because some people are just too greedy for their own good (N)

sad sad times we live in.

I think one of the best places to start buying land, for those who are doing so, might be the american midwest.

Why?

Well, there is always plently of wind on a flat, open plain.

Good soil as that is where most of our food comes from.

great solar coverage.

Tornados?

Make partially - fully subterranean housing... like hobbits.

Sound dumb? Hear me out.

Houses that are partially underground require less to heat and further less to maintain warmth. This would be easy on the fuel and power. Also, you make the "roof" layer a non-toxic, metallic material and structure it to have powerful enough outer walls which will resist an enormous storm like F-5.. give is a wide base that has footings, so it looks like a half-underground hill. This will make it impossible to pull out and sturdy enough to not be blown over. Thoughts ideas? Comments?

Also, I wish I had someone willing to buy land with me. I am thus far the only one with enough insanity to dedicate money to this in my life.
