The Al-Jazeera news network has aired a tape recording allegedly from Al-Qeada leader Osama Bin Laden. In the recording OBL warns fresh attacks against the US are being planned. If the recording is confirmed it will be the first time the US has heard from Bin Laden since his last tape was released in December 2004. The tape also goes on to offer the US a 'long term truce'.

Arabic TV station al-Jazeera has broadcast an audio tape it says was by the al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden.
In it the voice warns that new attacks on the US are being planned, but offers a "long-term truce" to the Americans.

If confirmed, it would be the first time Bin Laden has been heard from since December 2004.

Last month, al-Jazeera aired a videotape it said dated back to September showing al-Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

In it Zawahiri declared that, despite a prolonged absence and rumours about ill health or possible injury, Bin Laden was alive

As the reports are still coming in i am waiting to hear about this 'long term truce'???

What exactly do they mean?

I was listening to the translation as it was being aired. There was nothing in the tape to indicate what would be needed for the truce.
I do not hold much water on the offer though.
One thing that this brings to question for me though is the recent strange bombs that have been located recently.
A bomb in a Starbucks bathroom (demolition experts on scene say it was a bomb, a forensics expert later says that is was just a flashlight with corroded batteries)

Blasting caps found "placed" around a peir in California

A grenade lodged into the highway in the DFW area.

All of the above happened on the same day. In all cases, terrorism was determined not to be a factor.

Now this... make me wonder.

Oddly enough, the warnings start coming during an election year. What are the odds?

Note,
the tape that has been shown on the Al-Jazeer station is not the entire tape. The tape is purportedly about 10 minues long. The TV stations decided to only air 4 minutes of the tape that they thought was "newsworthy"

Al-Jazeera's editor-in-chief, Ahmed al-Sheik, would not comment on when or where the tape was received. He said the full tape was 10 minutes long. The station aired four excerpts with what it "considered newsworthy," he said, but would not say what was on the remainder.

Well you know.. We Reap what we soew... goes the old saying..

People didnt contest the OH election bs, So now we are prob going to get nuked or something cause All of us americans are stupid and dont demand action on something as simple as saying "Well Gee bob, This war is Illegal. What we have here is a bad thing..."

Yet we let some moron who talks to god and tells him to kill innoicent people and take out a nobody on terror.. Yes Saddam is a nobody in the game of terrorism...

So now edspect something soon in a few months at least.. I had a feeling all last yr something this yr was going to go down.. I seem to have been right..

BTW Not to burst your bubble or anything but Bin Laden has also been dead for a long while either before and/or after 9/11, remember Kidney Disease. And there is a such thing as vioce coping things out there.

Anyway I hope We americans can notice the screw up before its to late.. opps To late..

I saw him on CNN in the break room a few moments ago - it did NOT look like the same Bin Laden.

It was an audio tape. Any video footage that you saw would have to have been archival footage to support the news byte

english.aljazeera.net...

This goes into it a little more about the truce, and how he is blaming Bush for the attacks that are to come.

In the report, it is saying that a 'voice' could be heard, claiming to be Bin Laden. It has not yet been 'decided' that it is actually him.

Until we get to hear if it is him, then i think we should take it with a pinch of salt. After all, this could be any mindless idiot speaking.
Mindless idiot? hmmmmmmmmm ,maybe it is Bin Laden after all?

Realistically,I think we should just wait an see what the Government decides we need to hear and be told.

Democratic Chairman Howard Dean was just on CNN and he stated that he thought the tape was a reaction to the last weeks attack in Pakistan.

He also thought it was a good indication that we may have in fact hit one or two prime targets within al qaeda.

In essence what he said is if the tape is real they are trying to belittle the effects the deaths might have on the organization, hence they started with the same you are not safe anywhere rhetoric, hoping to try and scare people with threats while also trying to recruit more members.

Funny that Al Jazira is editing OBL's tapes for him.

I wonder what he thinks of that . . .

Also makes me wonder about what was on the other 6 minutes that AJ didn't find "newsworthy." Like maybe wording that would show the tape was actually made much longer ago than they are letting on?

That is a very good point to make. Experts are now going over the whole transcript as posted on a website and a CNN expert said in the voiced version they left out a piece that stated

"Rain Does not bother you when you are in the middle of an ocean"

Her take on that was an admission by OBL that he was in fact loosing the war, which is probably why al jazeera left that phrase out.

Bush is low in the ratings, the only thing the republicans have got going for them is this war on terror and so now their dragging this out again. Have you guys noticed that Bin laden is Bush's greatest political buddy? Anytime Bush gets low in the ratings out comes Bin Laden waving. God their getting so predictable.

First major success in the ongoing war on terror: Bin Laden lost his video camera! Better than nothing, no? You could almost say it was worth it. I wonder if he's still got his sub-mountaineous supervillain base?

Anyway, the NSA matter is somewhat looming, a strike on Iran more or less imminent - anonymous sources within the intelligence apparatus will most likely validate the tape and many will believe it. Business as usual...

goose,

I have to go with you on this one. I have thought for some time now that the whole WOT thing is the MIC doing a 'Fight Club' number on itself to keep the dollars turning into bombs instead of butter.

Last week it was "US: 'Very High' Chance of WMD Terror Strike". The story is still second only to this new bin Laden story here on ATSNN.

This week we have bin Laden(?) telling us why we haven't been hit since 9/11, and soon we will see it from our own back yards. How convenient!

Need a distraction from impending impeachment? Scandals in the GOP? Polls show support for the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan going into the toilet? Sabre rattling in Iran? Short of conventional methods to continue the WOT? Need an excuse to roll out the nukes?

Roll out bin Laden! WMD attack on the homeland!

Break out the duct tape and the visqueen (plastic wrap)! Let's roll!

Give me a break! Why don't these jokers just knock it off already? Don't they know they are just going to end up blowing themselves and everyone like them to Kingdom Come?

Heres a transcript of the recording...

My message to you is about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and the way to end it.

I had not intended to speak to you about this issue, because, for us, this issue is already decided: diamonds cut diamonds.

Praise be to God, our conditions are always improving, becoming better, while yours are the opposite.

However, what prompted me to speak are the repeated fallacies of your President Bush in his comment on the outcome of US opinion polls, which indicated that the overwhelming majority of you want the withdrawal of the forces from Iraq, but he objected to this desire and said that the withdrawal of troops would send the wrong message to the enemy.

Bush said: It is better to fight them on their ground than they fighting us on our ground.

In my response to these fallacies, I say: The war in Iraq is raging and operations in Afghanistan are on the rise in our favour, praise be to God.

The Pentagon figures indicate the rise in the number of your dead and wounded, let alone the huge material losses.

To go back to where I started, I say that the results of the poll satisfy sane people and that Bush's objection to them is false.

Reality testifies that the war against America and its allies has not remained confined to Iraq, as he claims.

In fact, Iraq has become a point of attraction and recruitment of qualified resources.

On the other hand, the mujahideen, praise be to God, have managed to breach all the security measures adopted by the unjust nations of the coalition time and again.

The evidence for this are the bombings you have seen in the capitals of the most important European countries of this aggressive coalition.

As for the delay in carrying out similar operations in America, this was not due to the failure to breach your security measures.

Operations are in preparation and you will see them on your own ground once the preparations are finished, God willing.

Based on the above, we see that Bush's argument is false.

However, the argument that he avoided, which is the substance of the results of opinion polls on withdrawing the troops, is that it is better not to fight the Muslims on their land and for them not to fight us on our land.

We do not object to a long-term truce with you on the basis of fair conditions that we respect.

We are a nation to which God has disallowed treachery and lying.

In this truce, both parties will enjoy security and stability and we will build Iraq and Afghanistan which were destroyed by the war.

There is no defect in this solution other than preventing the flow of hundreds of billions to the influential people and war merchants in America, who supported Bush's election campaign with billions of dollars.

Actually, that is only the translation of what was aired.
There is about 6 minutes more of the tape that was not aired.
as per the editor at al-Jazeer.

".... People didnt contest the OH election bs, So now we are prob going to get nuked or something cause All of us americans are stupid and dont demand action on something as simple as saying "Well Gee bob, This war is Illegal. What we have here is a bad thing..."

REPLY: All recounts of both elections show Bush won; get over it. By the way, you seem to forget the Wisconsin vote irregularities.
The war is "illegal" why? No.... it doesn't take an act of congress.

"....Yet we let some moron who talks to god and tells him to kill innoicent people and take out a nobody on terror.. Yes Saddam is a nobody in the game of terrorism"

REPLY: Saddams ties with Al-Queda have been proven many times over, with links on other ATS threads.

".... So now edspect something soon in a few months at least.. I had a feeling all last yr something this yr was going to go down.. I seem to have been right."

REPLY: Things happened last year, too.... like wiretaps preventing the attack on the Brooklyn bridge, and at the mall of America.

"....BTW Not to burst your bubble or anything but Bin Laden has also been dead for a long while either before and/or after 9/11, remember Kidney Disease."

REPLY: While I agree with you I'm waiting for OBL to hold up a recent newspaper showing the date in one of his tapes, there's no proof he's dead.. unless you have a link instead of an opinion? Also, Russia provided OBL with an iron lung a couple of years back.

Is anyone else pissed that this joker is still running around free? Seriously this is ridiculous! "We're winning the war on terror blah blah blah", if we're "winning" please explain to me why this joker is still giving out press releases five years after he slaughtered thousands? I'm seriously pissed off!

Goddamn incompetents!
