Why I follow the moon

Why I follow the moon

As I lie
Facing the western sky
I had the notion to swoon

Since all I could see
As round as could be
Is this beautiful moon

I wonder if you
Ever did too
Question the motions in view

Every 28 days
Rhythmic they'd say
Insects go crazy for you.

But it's not just the pests
There's those with unrest
That cannot ignore the moon

There's wolves that will call
Wilderbeast in thrall
And beetles aligning to you

I've asked them all
The big and the small
Why did you bother the moon?

No answer was straight
As it passed the gate
The golden one everyone knew

Confused at this notion
With a hint of emotion
I decided to ask... you

Luna oh why
Up in the sky
Enchanting us all in your view

Do you send us mad
Often too sad
Toiling as if just for you

She whispered to me
Why be so mean
It was I that was following you

Next time you see
My face please have glee
For I also miss some too

Yet do I despair?
You'll see me up there
In time as I always do

Sometimes I miss
Please see it as bliss
I'll keep time and I'll do it for you

This is no lie
I feebly cried
I feel I judged you too soon

I promise when I
Look up to the sky
I'll be looking out just for you

I won't feel despair
When you're not there
The clouds cannot hide the sea too

Upon the tide!
She wailed
I cried

....

Alone not are we
Neither should she
That sorrowful lonely old moon

Approaching that plough
It's miniature now
For you we'll keep time too

Not my preferred style... It's about the 7 sisters, reminiscing and beautiful timing.

Meh, I try.

That's beautiful, Ray!

I love the word choice, the pace and the storytelling in poetic form.

Nice! Angel came down from heaven yesterday
She stayed with me
Just long enough to rescue me
And she told me a story yesterday
About the sweet love between
The moon and the deep blue sea
And then she spread her wings high over me
She said she is going to come back tomorrow -Jimi Hendrix-

Good song from the late 70's.
I had to relocate a spider from a corner of my bedroom the morning of the eclipse and it triggered the lyrics.
Who knows what it really means?

As someone whose name translates into English as "Bright Moon" I heartily approve of your story.

I really liked it, well done...

Lunatics everywhere, no more moonshine for them

I guess being composed of mainly water could be a very simple explanation of why living things are affected by the moon... But it's never that simple...

Thank you for the kind compliments everyone

I'd never heard of that Jimi Hendrix song but it definitely hit some similar notes and I did have a couple of dearly departed in mind whilst I wrote that. The outro to that song is exquisite.

It's a poem I've had loosely in my mind for 2-3 years and was originally about asking all the animals about their inspirations from the frantic moths to the lonely wolves... I guess it did turn out alright in the end keeping it mostly human-centric.

I'm glad you all liked it!

That's beautiful, thank you for sharing.

Poetry; a fitting art form for She.

As for myself, I look towards the Sun!

I was always afraid of the moon and the darkness of the night...

But those days are behind me now.

I see she serves her purpose well, as all we do.

Though her mysteries are many, so too are my own.

How could I judge her then, without hypocrisy!?

Bah, to each his or her own, I guess.

Again, thank you for sharing my friend.

Farewell.

^_^

That itself was quite beautiful

I've had reasons to distrust circumstance when it comes to the moon and timing but I was probably projecting or reflecting... I also wouldn't see her if it wasn't for the Sun

There's a reason the hunters moon was updated for the modern day as the bombers moon but as Terpene mentioned it's never that simple. This little dedication was based on a night where a full moon passed the celestial golden gate which is the Pleiades and the Hyades, can't claim to know what that's all about exactly but under similar circumstances I had a magical little dream of a lovely lady who isn't with us anymore, the dream was based around a Hawthorne tree that also isn't with us anymore.

I'm ok with that
I'm also more than ok with the reminder whenever I catch a glimpse.

It's more poetic than any words I can muster up. I'm glad you no longer fear the night and it is there to divide the day. Luna? She's a little reminder of what's round the corner

It's not like the living haven't done horrid things in the name of the celestial before, they're always there casting their influence... But then again maybe that was all us. To love and loss and those solemn moments we remember.

I really enjoyed this poem.

It's a beautiful tribute to Luna and it made my heart smile.

She really is a beautfiul lady in all her phases.

Spam spam
I want some ham
Wouldn't care
If it's mechanically recovered lamb.

Yummy yummy,
In my tummy.
Any old meat,
Would be as good as honey.

More effort...
In a fart.
Now I'm hungry...
So I must dart.

That made me laugh... great improvisation in the wake of our hit & run spammers!
