Watch it turn out to just be an old candy bar wrapper.

The scientists brought it up for further study, this is what it looks like now;

The mystery golden orb was discovered by NOAA Ocean Exploration team 2 miles below the surface off the coast of Alaska much to the puzzlement of the team who discovered it.

This golden “egg” was seen by a team of NOAA-backed researchers off the southern coast of Alaska. Experts aren’t sure what it is.

There, at a depth of about 2 miles, sat a shiny golden orb — with a perplexing hole in it.

“Something tried to get in ... or to get out,” one researcher observed in a live feed.

In the debate that followed, the team made funny references to everything from the X-Files to classic monster movies. It was ultimately decided a sample of the orb was needed to examine its DNA.

Behind this thing it appears the other half of it is still in some sort of rock that appears to have broken in the background. The rock seems to have a black core of some sort. It could have fallen out of the part that broke out of the part that broke off, some sort of fossil contained in the rock. It may not actually be a rock, just a coated clump of black sand that some sea creature built a shell or nest of some sort in. Someone will identify what created that thing, it does not appear to be an oyster, but it could be some sort of creature that grew into the rock/sand/whatever it is.

At 2 miles deep in the ocean , that would be one heckuva an eggshell .
Need that material to go on military armor .

There's a bit more info and a couple of pictures of it in the lab , one posted above by "quintessentone" and another in the link below.

Sky News understands tests will have to wait until they can examine it in a full laboratory after their research expedition ends in the next fortnight.

Admitting they can't tell where it came from, the group shared a picture on social media, taken from a live stream of its deep dive.

"This golden orb, likely an egg casing, struck an imaginative chord for many watching yesterday," the NOAA wrote.

The image shows a round, sponge-like mass with a hole in it.

According to the Miami Herald, one researcher on board remarked "something tried to get in... or get out" during the video.

The "glittering gold blob", as described by the NOAA, is "as-of-yet unidentified".

Lmao, looks like wet cardboard..

Remember that time when they claimed some fun new telescope image that made mainstream news turned out to be nothing more then a slice of meat?

Top scientist admits ‘space telescope image’ was actually a slice of chorizo?
it's the sun, it's mars, no it's Chorizo!!
more chorizo planets

So chances are it's just wet decaying cardboard with a feather pillow, or stuffing replacement inside which helped it retain it's shape slightly.. that some arse robbed from those trains while stealing amazon packages.. they then brought the box elsewhere opened it and realized it was nothing special(cause those things weigh pretty heavy, so the thief could assume it's something 'valuable'.) and threw into the ocean.

Then the fish were eating the cardboard(waterlogged or broke), then the pillow, filling replacement just kinda glued together like a mass of feathers tend to do when they ain't stuck to bird. Gonna laugh my arse off if i'm correct.

So far, more than 3,300 species of deep-sea corals have been identified, but new species are being discovered continually.

Take a look at the picture at the link I posted, top left-hand on top of rock...the coral sort of resembles it but I can't find the name of this type of coral. It could also be leather coral that has died and all it's tentacles have eaten by fish, considering the scientists are saying it looks like human skin. Just a guess.

Or a new species?
