Of course incense can include many sources, from fresh herbs to resins, but here I'm referring to the humble joss-stick.

Several years ago this book said, get copal.
Apparently what the Mayas and Aztecs used.

For years I went looking, and last week I found it.
"White Copal" from a company called Tribal Soul.

So, was the wait worth it?
First inch of the stick - a bit like sandalwood.

But now I smell a honey-type sweetness in the after-bouquet.

Yip, I sense the attraction.

What's your favorite incense?

Allergic effects I do sometimes get from other incense and perfumes (itchy eyes, sneezing, asthma) ... nothing so far.

As an aromatherapist, can I make a little distinction here between joss-sticks and incense.
Joss-sticks are the long, thin sticks which are are usually (but not always) made of various resins made available mostly from different trees. Others, like Jasmine for example, are made from 'fake' perfumes as Jasmine does not give us a resin. Neither is the essential oil of Jasmine used as EO's are flammable.
Incense on the other hand is the original hardened resin/sap that trees exude (sometimes roots), as in your video.
I have several incenses. I love Frankincense, Myrrh and Benzoin and have several more. There are lots of different 'species' of Frankincense for example. Last year whilst in Cyprus visiting my son, I bought about 6 different incenses at a lovely monastery that produce their own.
As to incense sticks/joss sticks, one of my all time favourites is one called Nag Champa.
Be very careful when buying incense/joss sticks. For example many will contain sulphur (as in the case of lemongrass) to make them burn.
Copal is a beautiful resin and very spiritual.

My favorite is to burn either sandalwood or nag champa with a stick of patchouli

Amber blends seem to do it for me although I'd imagine non actually contain amber these days.

Nag Champa is good though I'd say get it from a reputable seller, people tend to get stuff off the likes of Amazon these days and a lot of it is fake.

I have a jug I filled with a couple of joss-sticks and some more and as far as I know they're Jasmin. On occasions through the week I smell the scent and I like how that happens. Then I'm like, mmmh, yea, I put that there and howcome I smell it now.

Ah, a good dose of smudging and sound therapy. Love it..... maybe not the way they do it though.
