Not really. But am getting cataract surgery done next week. Apparently that filmy smear across my left eye is NOT cream cheese.

Wife and I are actually spending the night at a fancy-pantsy hotel the night before then I go under the knife the following morning.

Anyone else ever get a lens replacement? My insurance refuses to cover a laser beam implant so that sucks, but other than that, am looking forward to reading again and not having everything on the computer "super-sized".

I got cataract surgery (both eyes) last year. I wish I could have gotten it 10 years or more ago. My vision is now better than it was when I was 50 years younger.

That’s the funny thing. In most cases, a month after the cataract surgery your vision will definitely be a lot better than it was the day of the surgery and will probably be as good as or better than it was when you were a lot younger. However, insurance won’t pay for it until it deteriorates to the point where it’s a real danger for things like driving. And then they’ll only pay for the most basic, single focal length lenses. If possible, opt for the tri-focal lenses at extra cost. They will improve both near and distant vision.

My Mum has recently had both of her eyes done.
While not exactly pleasant, she says the difference is remarkable.
Enjoy your new found vision

I've never done it but my mom went from cataracts to 20/20 vision, needing no glasses afterwards. She's probably an exceptional case but everyone I've met that had it done was thrilled to see again, glasses or not.

Good luck with it. Bummer about not getting the laser beam implants though.

The doc first put my wife on eyedrops to see if that would help before thinking about surgery .

Which ones? Did it do anything positive?

I don't remember . It was a one month trial . And then anothe4r checkup . No change.
The surgery did the trick .

Did they take your eye? Can you now smoke your Marlboro's and drink your bourbon through the empty socket?

Picking up my drops tomorrow, I will be snowed for this.

The doc says all I'll see are some lights and that's it.

I do get freaked out when anything gets near my eyes though.

SO I plan on being very drunk when I get this done.

You should step up and try a cigar or pipe next.

Anticipating the Mrs. posting pictures of you in her lingerie while knocked out on pain meds.

Pepto at the ready, of course.

Added: They'll go great in the "Model quits" thread

Exactly. It is a most disconcerting feeling.
Like something out of science fiction.

Something coming right at your eye....and the urge to get the hell out of Dodge to save your vision.
LOL

I would be as well.

You'll be sure to share the experience?
I DREAD the day I will need that surgery....I've already been told to put it off as long as possible, as my cornea won't heal easily.

I have a [www.webmd.com...=]Corneal Dystrophy[/url]...and not all that rare, despite what the site said.

Just, please, listen to the doctors/medicos afterwards....
NO wild parties while that eye heals

Are you kidding me???

I'm going to milk this and be bed-ridden as long as I can so the wife can spoil me.

When I was a kid my old Cooey .22 backfired and I got 72 tiny pieces of brass casing in my right eye.

I was awake with my chin on a rest while the doc looked through goggles and picked the larger pieces out with a needle of some sort.

Really bizarre watching the needle float across my eye with a clicking sound as it picked at the brass.

It was a miracle that my eyesight wasn’t damaged. I still have around 25 pieces in there and it’s still my dominant eye.
