Former President Donald Trump keeps racking up endorsements from Republicans in Congress as he wages his third run for the White House, including several from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ home state—what some politicos are calling a sign of weakness in DeSantis’ political acumen and a nod to Trump’s aggressive courtship style.
Three GOP Florida Congress members endorsed Trump this week over DeSantis for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, bringing Trump’s total to seven, though 12 other Florida Republican representatives have yet to say who they are backing, along with the state’s two GOP senators.
Only three Republican congress members—Reps. Tom Massie (Ky.), Chip Roy (Texas) and Laurel Lee (Fla.)—and neither senator have endorsed DeSantis.
In a particularly biting rebuff of DeSantis, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas) endorsed Trump moments after leaving a Tuesday meet and greet with DeSantis on Capitol Hill, tweeting “after careful consideration and a positive meeting with Governor DeSantis, I have decided to endorse President Trump for 2024.”
Trump’s ability to swoop up early endorsements is indicative of a difference in style and tactic from DeSantis, politicos have observed: Trump has spent more time building personal relationships compared to DeSantis, who was known as more of a loner during his six years in Congress serving alongside many of the members who announced plans to back Trump.
At least two GOP Congress members, Trump-backer Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), who has yet to endorse, told Politico and CNN that DeSantis has not returned their multiple attempts to connect, while Capitol Hill sources told CNN other lawmakers were miffed that DeSantis assigned aides to seek endorsements, rather than reaching out himself.
Former President Trump and his team have in recent weeks settled with an approach that has for now staved off the threat of a challenger displacing him atop Republican primary polls.
The strategy has been a mixture of pointed attacks on rivals, namely Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), over past policy positions, as well as Trump’s usual fire-and-brimstone approach in lashing out against critics and investigations into his conduct.
The result so far has been a strong fundraising haul that was boosted in the aftermath of Trump’s indictment in New York City, as well as a slew of congressional endorsements that have served to solidify the former president’s standing atop the Republican Party.
“In general, I think the party is better with somebody new and fresh and Trump comes with a lot of baggage but he does seem to be more disciplined this time,” said Dan Eberhart, a Republican donor who is backing DeSantis.
The former president has released a series of video messages on social media outlining his campaign platform on issues like immigration, Ukraine and dismantling the “deep state.” While the videos often feature exaggerated claims or proposals that would not pass muster with Congress, they reflect the campaign’s desire to push the former president’s ideas directly out into the public.
Trump boasts about making $4.6m from bizarre NFT cards
The Independent·1 hour ago
Former U.S. President Donald Trump released a new wave of NFT trading cards earlier this week and he has already seen their value drop significantly.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump said: "I am pleased to inform you that, due to the great success of my previously launched DIGITAL TRADING CARDS, we are doing it again, SERIES 2, AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. GO TO collecttrumpcards.com. Have fun!"
When Trump released the first wave in December 2022, the presidential candidate was mocked for hyping up the cards as a "major announcement." He has since been ridiculed for the art depicted on the cards, which show him as various characters including as a superhero, a cowboy and an astronaut.
Trump's digital trading cards did see a price surge last month amid speculation that he would be indicted in New York. However, the price then fell back when Trump wasn't arrested on March 21 as he had predicted and fluctuated over the following days, before falling to 0.41 of an Ethereum (a benchmark cryptocurrency) on March 29.

Does anyone realize that while we're pissing and moaning about Trumps trading cards, Biden and his administration is literally destroying America.
But go ahead, OMB.
Trump, er mer gerd.
Tiny hands.
While we're paying 4 to 5 bucks a gallon at 9% inflation, while he sold us out in Afghanistan, while our borders are wide open, while crimes increase everywhere.......
But ew, Trump and mean tweets.

DJT '24 campaign really missing out on making a TCRPG with those cards instead of just collecting them.
Imagine a political reskin of Magic the Gathering or Pokemon style card game from Trump.

I think we're screwed regardless.
Democrats OR Republicans won't allow Trump to run again.
Also as obviously "the Donald" does not, he has to be perfect

If you are anointed and chosen by God; how much more perfect can you be?
