This one covered a very large area on the south east side of Hokkaido. Currently it is saying between 4 and -5.
This was just an emergency alert on TV at the moment. No mention of Tsunami warning. The quake covered a very large land area though. Its night time now so I haven't heard anything more.

The chart on TV tonight is show areas of 3 4 and a -5 . I heard any reporting of 6.1 on the update and its 11 pm now. The tv had shown a camera of land where the camera was really shaking. That's all I've seen so far. But according to the chart, the quake involved a large land mass.

I'm not sure why the USGS has it listed as 6.1 though, I would definitely defer to the Japanese seismologists on location

or is it this one ?

M 5.1 - 133 km NW of Ishikawa, Japan

I could believe it was a 6 due to the chart I saw. It really covered a large land mass there of Kushiro.

Just read your above post. Yes, 6 would have generated a tsunami fear. Here when a disaster is happening, the tv breaks a written news alert and within a few minutes then we might see a live broadcast. Off Okinawa today also had a quake. I mentioned we had a heck of a lot of snow this year up north. That weight might actually cause a quake ?

Ishikawa is on the Japan Sea side and further south of Hokkaido. I haven't heard anything about that one. Ishikawa has a peninsula called Noto Peninsula. Its very mountainous. I've cycled the area and mostly its all fishing villages.
