U.S. military and federal agencies are continuing their efforts to recover wreckage from the Chinese spy flight that was shot down off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday, with the FBI taking a keen interest in determining the origin of the surveillance balloon's components.

A source familiar with the classified briefing provided to members of Congress on Thursday confirmed to FOX that the Chinese spy balloon had Western-made parts with English writing. The news was first reported by Bloomberg.

FBI 'very interested' in determining where Chinese spy balloon was manufactured

While the source of this thread is a Fox News article, it is based upon Bloomberg News reporting... I tend to opt for the original news reporting company, in this case Bloomberg is not exactly 'freely' distributing the news unless you supply them with your 'user membership.' Since I don't wish to 'join' Fox will have to do.

Two key things stand out in each of the articles... a phrase:

Fox reported:

A source familiar with the classified briefing provided to members of Congress on Thursday, ...
and Bloomberg reported

... members of Congress were told on Capitol Hill Thursday, people familiar with the matter said.

So, once again, we have no actual attribution sources... just a person or people who we say 'know'. Presumably, these people are cleared to have access to the 'classified' briefing information... I find it important to note that practice being central to the reporting ... because later on, these same people will be at the same cocktail party at the golf club. [/end cynicism]

Now... on to the topic itself...

What the hell is the FBI doing in this investigation? As a strictly national security matter it seems to me to be matter for military specialist and tightly controlled information channels. The FBI is an information sieve (as one can see) which cannot ever refrain from the "optics" game regardless of the importance of the matter. The FBI are "political" police... we need military expertise here.

Could it be that they want to "get ahead" of any story that might implicate a political ally of the politically appointed FBI leadership's bosses? Or perhaps they are chomping at the bit for some political dirt that can apply on someone who their political 'benefactors' find offensive? Questions like those are the reason you don't use the FBI for these kinds of investigations...

Sorry, I find this application of 'FBI agents' to be very questionable. This was and is a job for the military... and too bad if that means fewer opportunities for "public posturing" and less politically marketable 'news.'

Looks like I won my bet! 💰

I would bet there is US funding and research on these Chinese spy balloons, considering that Biden shared satellite intelligence with Xi Jinping before the Russian invasion.

Always chaos and misdirection on these kinds of issues. Rarely a clear answer. Red Herring. They're setting up a future rebuttal advantage 😎

The FBI has both an Intelligence Branch and a National Security Branch. Why would the chief investigation agency in the country not be involved?

Because they are terrible at both.

Electronics - China makes those. Doesn't Foxxcon assemble the iPhone?

Carbon fiber and industrial chemicals - China makes those.

Solar panels - China makes those as well.

Lithium batteries - China is on the fast track to become a world leader in the production of Electric Vehicles, which use such batteries.

They may have bought the balloon from an American, European, or allied country...but that's like blaming the local drugstore for selling condoms.

I suppose you could argue that the Chinese stole the idea for a powered balloon airship from the US, originally.

How ironic; everything in America says 'Made in China'.

Because national security and defense are military affairs... this should not be in the realm of political police.

Now all manner of "public relations" considerations will go into the reporting of the event and the evidence we have. The FBI cannot be counted upon for an unbiased "non-political' report on the matter. They have repeatedly demonstrated that they are simply not inclined to investigate this level of event without resorting to political hackery and "leaks-leaks-leaks."

It's why they were never meant to involve themselves in anything which could affected by the biases of the politicians who appointed them to the office. Are we not speaking of the same FBI?

(PS - I'm not talking about field 'officers' and 'agents' just the people who "tell them what to do.")

(PPS - All manner of organizations have "national security" and "intelligence" branches and offices... mostly for the title-based social currency they provide. Just look at the big news agencies and who they employ as 'talking heads.')

For starters, they are wondering where a Chinese balloon was made. It had English writing, so it must have been England, right?

People keep ignoring the obvious explanation to most of their questions about China and Ukraine, because that explanation is so mentally difficult to even consider, much less to seriously entertain.

More like the alphabet agency want to cover their tracks this time. Unless that President Trump gets re-elected, we'll never know the truth.

Sources familiar with theater say each branch leaks as much as they intend to no matter who the POTUS is.

Probably a garage in San Franscico,California next a yellow short bus with an alien dangling from the rear view mirror making the peace sign.

I'm sure the FBI put the alien on the payroll as a CHS.
