It is indeed catastrophic! I can't begin to imagine what we are going to be seeing and hearing over the next week.

It's too bad we gave all of our aid and $$ to Ukraine, as its looking like these places are going to need tremendous help.

Are we even allowed to give $$$ to any country other than Ukraine?

People really got on me when I was really championing the Tuition help for American kids. I really felt like at least it is helping some of our people. Now look at all our money going everywhere but here.

The people of Turkey, Syria, and probably some other areas. I heard even Fiji might get some after shocks. Are really going to need massive rebuilding funds. Some places in Turkey look completely flattened. What a sad sad day for the people over there.

I have a few friends from that area. I’ve heard from one. I pray the others are OK….

I've only walked away from following the news for 3 hours and the figures have jumped to:
Turkey = 2,379, Syria 1,380 = 3,768.
I dread to think what it will go up to overnight.
Why are we not hearing anything about Syria?

PS, update, Syria has gone up to 1,444

I wish I could offer words of comfort, but words can't convey how badly I feel.

My mother was living in L.A. during the 1989 quake and it was several days before we heard anything, and my father lived in Seward, Alaska during the Good Friday quake in 1964. It's a horrible situation to be in; all I can offer is continued prayers.

Earthquake activity can persist for hours, days, even weeks.

So true! The one that hit the New Madrid Fault in the early 1800s lasted from 1811 and on into 1812. The sequence started on December 16th, 1811 and had two more equally as destructive in January and February 1812.

I hesitate to add this, but the town of New Madrid, Missouri, where the quake was centered, simply disappeared.

Relax! We can just print twice the money and send to both.

What?

Why are you looking at me like that?

Wow this is brutal. Prayers. Someone I think mentioned it earlier also, but something I’ve kind of noticed these last few years with supersize quakes are it seems another supersize quake happens almost directly on the other side of Earth not long after. Let’s hope not or if it does, it’s deep and in the ocean where no lives are lost or affected.

Last night when I went to sleep the total was 1,444, this morning it's up to at least 4,800 across both countries.

Don't know if this has been
already mentioned, but
interesting to say the least.

This guy Frank Hoogerbeets predicted the
Türkiye earth quake spot on.
He claims it was due to "Obvious
critical planetary geometry"

Frank Hoogerbeets Obvious critical planetary geometry
there will be a ~M 7.5 #earthquake in this region
(South-Central Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon).
2 Feb Larger seismic activity may occur from
4 to 6 February, most likely up to mid or
high 6 magnitude. There is a slight possibility of
a larger seismic event around 4 February.
. Frank Hoogerbeets Similar geometry
will occur again in the 2nd half of 2023.
Watch August - November!

Amazing that flooding from
broken water mains, electric hazards, gas leaks . . .
was taken care of so quickly.
Praying that more survivors will be found.

Beware of any donations set up. Major “charities” and NGOs will steal the majority of what is given for themselves. Research thoroughly.

Sad something like that even needs said, but here we are.

This is a really good read: www.givingwhatwecan.org...

It does have some suggestions at the end if people do want to give to disaster relief.

USGS Central Turkey 125 registered aftershocks 4.0 or above since the 7.8 in the previous 7 days they had one earthquake 2 days before the big one (4.2)

Just had another one 4.4, all along the same fault line, while previously the major quakes since the 30s had occurred on the northern fault line.

Over 5100 lives lost in Turkey and Syria, with freezing temperatures, it's expected to still climb rapidly for a few days

As the Turks control the Bosphorus straight they'll probably get all the help they need. in fact, access to the straight might just go to the highest bidder.

We are all about to get that little bit poorer..again.

It would seem Turkey is and will be getting a different level of US support. Not suggesting there aren't legit reasons for this, but Turkey will get the Platinum plus support plan, while Syria gets the basic copper plan

www.politico.com...

“My Administration has been working closely with our NATO Ally Turkiye, and I authorized an immediate U.S. response. At my direction, senior American officials reached out immediately to their Turkish counterparts to coordinate any and all needed assistance,” Biden said in a statement. “Our teams are deploying quickly to begin to support Turkish search and rescue efforts and address the needs of those injured and displaced by the earthquake.U.S.-supported humanitarian partners are also responding to the destruction in Syria.”

Both Turkey and Syria don't deserve American $$ no matter the reasoning.

Both Erodgan and Assad hate the ever living hell of us.

Our money is better spent here than given to the absolute slime of humanity.

But more slime of humanity runs here.

What a condundrum.

Russia is sending aid for the irony.
