Hey Folks...
It's been a hectic October to say the least and I was a bit overwhelmed, but I have managed to scrape up a short story, Just for the Fun of it.
Were all looking forward to reading the story you all are working on!
Johnny
Here we go with "Your not Going to Believe This"
After a number of decades of sheer frustration, everyone and anyone involved with the dig-site were more than eager to give up and just pack it in.
Funding had terminated over five years ago and investor's a few years before, so any contributions were mostly coming from the archeological team and
their staff. No one had seen a paycheck for over two years and hence all their work was being donated to keep the expedition alive.
It was 6:00 AM in the morning and in the distance the Sun was just beginning to peak over the Canyon's ridge-top. Dr. William Stavenski the lead
Archaeologist steps out of his 'Pop-up Tent' and made his way to the 'Mess Tent' being drawn like a magnet to the smell of fresh hot coffee. He's met
while walking in by his partner Dr. James Warfield.
"Morning Will"
"Morning Jimmy"
William knew that James always got a bit twisted when he was called 'Jimmy' instead of 'James' or in the least 'Jim'. "You know it's just too perfect
of a day to not start without a little bit of razzing, know what I mean?"
"If you say so William."
The two sat down at the table and silently drank their coffee while watching the sunrise.
There is a commotion outside and in the distance, a man is yelling and jumping up and down.
"Wonder what that's all about" murmurs William, "you better go have a look at what's going on in Sector G3". James gets up and heads over to the
dig-site. But quickly comes jogging back and out of breath.
"You better come have a look at this Will".
William joins James and they stroll quickly over to the area. "What's this all about anyways?" William ask. "Have we made a discovery of some form?"
"A discovery is putting it mildly, I'd say, it's more Earth shattering than 'just a discovery.'"
The two men climb to the top of the excavation area and find all the hired hands trembling and mumbling to one another. Below them was not a
prehistoric creature, 1000's of years old, but a bright and silvery disc-shaped piece of metal probably 18 feet in length with unknown width (being
still un-excavated).
"Now what the hell is this" asks William?
"I don't have an answer, but I don't think it belongs here. Look, there's no rust or degradation of any kind... it appears visually to being almost
'showroom new'. James grabbed a pick-axe and tried to get a piece of metal to come off, hitting the object numerous times and didn't even put a dent
or scratch on it.
"So what the hell is this thing", William asks again. This metallic discovery although not what they were searching for, might be just the boost they
needed to get some more funding for the dig. "Do me a favor Jim, take lot's of pictures and email them to the University and ask if they have any idea
what we may have found."
William walks back to his Tent to make a log entry in his Journal, just as the sound of a Helicopter arrives and lands. "Now who is this showing up"
he wondered. The tent door flies open as the turbulence from helicopter blades blows wind and sand across the entire area.
He pokes his head out but can see nothing as the props are creating a sand-storm as far as the eye can make out. For the good portion of 15 minutes or
more, this artificial storm made it impossible to move about or do anything less of 'hunkering' down.
There is the sound of a second helicopter arriving and hovering nearby, and then like a flash the storm and the helicopters disappeared. William
quickly went back to the site and found James and the others unconscious. William tried to get James to wake up, but he was out cold.
Walking up and over the ridge he can find no trace of a dig-site at all, it was completely filled in as if it had never been worked.
William remembers that he had asked James to take photos of this 'thing' and quickly makes his way back to James. And sure enough, the camera was
still around his neck.
He tries to flip on the camera but it's dead, and has no power. But this wasn't a problem as there were many other devices that could read 'memory-
cards'. He takes the camera back to his tent and retrieves the SD-card from it's camera slot. Placing it into his laptop he tries to download the card
but nothing is on it, including all previous pictures that had been taken.
What the hell had happened in the past 25-30 minutes was just a blur, and there was zero proof of any of it happening at all, outside of the few
people that witnessed it.
An incoming email flashed onto his laptop, and after clicking on it William's breath was taken back. The email said, "Appreciate your help, Have a
Nice Day!", and then the email deleted itself.
James holding his head in one hand stumbles in the tent and asks "what the hell just happened?"
William shaking his head says "sit down James, your not going to believe what I'm about to share with you."
The End
