Why do you think we went to digital instead of leaving everything on analog?

Shortage of vacuum tubes?

Vacuum tubes have nothing to do with digital. Semiconductors work just as well with analog as they do with digital. The very first computer built, ENIAC, was built with vacuum tubes.

All the switch to semiconductors did was make the circuitry smaller and make it use less power.

The vac tube army had grown too strong and threatened to take over the world with it's inefficiency and energy consumption, and make modern video games impossible.

Young humans rose up and genocided the airless hoard by smashing them into their parent's driveways to great giggles.

Seriously, a single modern laptop built with vac tubes would require several football stadiums to house it, a large maintenance staff, and probably it's own power plant.

Have I mentioned how much I love Biden and authoritarian rule?

No. Have I?

That's... pretty darn accurate.

ENIAC took up an entire city block and it had less power than a modern calculator (it also had its own dedicated substation and a 24/7 maintenance team).

I remember running a BBS on my commodore 64 with a 300 baud modem back when compuserve was around in the mid 80's. I miss those days!

I don't miss 300 baud, but we had anonymity.

It might take half a day to down load files at 9600 baud. But the Commodore 64 and the Tandy TRS Radio Shack computers were similar. I had the Colecovision with "digital audio tape" about the same time as the 64. Fun still because it was new. But the very next couple of PC improvements got us the "Graphic User Interface" so we could have a mouse and a whole lot more.

I wonder if any of the 'feds' on here are present at this gathering every year?

Lots of evidence here suggesting 'The Worst Trolls On The Internet Are The Government Trolls'.

Cheers.

I don't go as far back as ENIAC, but I caused a lot of trouble for the University of Illinois computer maintenance team whenever I slipped my leash at around age 7 while my father was a PhD candidate there.

This machine was much more advanced than ENIAC, it had automatic punch card readers, 1k of memory, and the ability to do simple calculus - assuming you had 8 hours to spare anyway, and it was only the size of a 3 story fieldhouse.

I got in sooo much trouble there.

The Biden regime just seized My Pillow guy's cell phone. Mike Lindell is a Christian that sells pillows... and is a Trump supporter.

The Biden regime has unleashed their corrupt DOJ against a political rival, and all of his supporters. This is painfully obvious.

The Gateway Pundit has reported that the FEDS have been active on their website... scrutinizing both content and user comments.

BEWARE: Feds in the threads

Above Top Secret members, beware... we probably have FEDS in our threads.

I would be very cautious when on this website. I am NOT throwing shade at ATS ownership or the moderators in any way... The DOJ has an unlimited budget, and they will do as they want. They executed a raid on the home of a former POTUS... that was a clear message to the rest of us... I'm just saying to choose your words carefully, they may very well be used against you.

I'm sure they've been here for years, I've never doubted so.

Do I self censor because of it? No, not usually.

I'm a fairly middle of the road guy, this is why I'm an Independent. I don't see my views as in anyway radical, or dangerous.

But I guess if they're big mad that I don't like the authoritarian direction the Democrat party has gone.

Well, guilty as charged.

And there I was expecting to see pics from the 2023 Official FBI dress code calendar!

Imo any intelligence or security apparatus would be remiss not to have a department trawling and posting in threads; compiling profiles, as well as attempting to shape narratives.

If a home grown terrorist did something terrible and it transpired they were a member of a particular forum and their posts suggested warning signs of their actions, then authorities would be accused of neglect for not flagging it.

Of course such activity can easily tip into Orwellian territory in the wrong hands and looking at the would right now it may well be in the wrong hands.

And did away with the otiginal meaning of the old saying "bug in the system" and allowed some airmen to perform other jobs with other equipment than a whisk and dustpan....
Just sayin...

It's mostly AI and algorithms these days. Probably very little man-hours expended now, to monitor this site. Hell, with keystroke logging, they probably know what you are going to post before you ever even hit the reply button.

I'm not really picking on you, just interested in the reality of that. How many people would it take working full time to monitor what people are posting, even if they do use keywords? Millions? A billion worldwide? A person needs to be trying to get their attention to be noticed.

Since it's impossible that anyone could or would try to monitor everything being posted online, what would be the point since it would probably take more people than exist to effectively monitor everyone?

I never buy into these overarching conspiracy ideas that huge numbers of people are covertly doing anything.

Pretty much everyone there were grad student hippies just trying to avoid being killed in a war, I don't remember any lab coats.

I do remember what happens when you lick your finger and touch a few vac tubes before they turn the machine on though.

Or what happens when the leading and trailing edges of one the cards are bent upwards a bit.

Sooo much trouble...

Just got a call from a Washington DC phone number.
I answered and heard someone fumbling around and then they hung up.

I get phone calls from disconnected phone numbers all the time, it's called phone number spoofing and if you know how to do it you can call someone on VoIP and make it look like the FBI headquarters.
I test it out all the time and use a VPN in another country to make a VoIP robocall calling people I don't like.
Untraceable calls just like the auto warranty scammers use and the FTC can not trace.
Twice over the years, I have got scammer phone calls from my own phone number.
