What to do oh what to do. Another mass shooting has taken place today, the 212th this year.
Membet Freeborn indicated that an adult conversation needs to happen. I agree. So much death and today involving children will evoke strong emotions to the topic.
As an American and a supporter of the Constitution, standing behind it is where Ill be.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Where Id like to get the ball rolling is at the point of education.
Me, personally, ive always been around firearms. Long before I knew of the 2nd ammendment and what it means. This, from my experience, seems to be the exception and not the rule.
In a country built on the foundationa of free speech and arms, shouldnt they be taught in the general education cirriculum?
It's infuriating every time I see an anti-gun extremist launch into a diatribe about "I don't need to know [X] to know you don't need an AR-15!"
This is exactly why they should try to get educated on the issue, because their complete ignorance of the subject matter leads them to focus on nonsense that won't matter. And they prevent progress on the issue by insisting on remaining ignorant.
But none of that explains the huge number of mass shootings in schools - mass shootings anywhere.
So far this year there has already been 27 shootings in schools in the US....that is madness.
If shooter is in fact, LBGTQ, expect them to gloss over it and just focus on guns being the issue, not mental health.

I've seen a few calls for universal background checks.
The guy bought two rifles legally, with a background check.
These idiots honestly don't even know how the background check system works. It doesn't matter how "universal" you make it, if there's nothing in his record that will cause the check to fail, he'll still be able to buy the gun.

Indeed. Background checks arent answer as they already exist.
Its been the consensus that its a societal/culture issue. Well, you cant legislate morality as Ive been told.
Eliminating all the guns is impossible.
So, and feel free to correct, is allowing for an equalizer.
That is 5 good guys vs 1 bad guy...with guns.
Our entire security, be it police or military is just that policy. A force greater than whats being presented.

So background checks and laws arent helping.
Im still with you here.
