I just spent hours writing up a story, a true story that not even my wife of 40 years heard before last night.
It was perfect, I painted a picture with my words….

The jist…… I saw my friend tumble over the rail one night as we we were working in some rather heavy weather off Long Island.
I rushed to the the rail and our eyes were locked on each other as he disappeared behind the boat in darkness.
We never found Paul, maybe I wasn’t supposed to tell it.

GRRRRRR

Hindsight is wonderful, but the fact is any time you are writing something lengthy to post, always use a local word processor, then copy and paste into the online program. Been there, done that. sorry for your loss.

Ummm...yep...as Schuyler stated..."been there...done that"...I think we all have...

to reiterate his other point...I've also learned to use pages or word for composing OP's...

A text editor sure does come in handy for situations like this.

Once bitten, twice shy...

Write in notepad. Save often. Don't EVER write it online.

I’ve always had to learn things the hard way. No harm no foul, but I do honestly ask myself this question, maybe I wasn’t supposed to tell this particular story at least not in this way.
I thank all of you for the advice I’ll take all the criticism and help I can get!

You can also just ‘select all’ and ‘copy’ before you post... or whenever a thread/post gets so long that you wouldn’t be bothered typing it out again if you lost it.

That’s what I do anyway.

I think I’ll let this one go for now.
Something doesn’t feel right, can’t explain it.
Maybe it’s that in 40 years I never even told my wife the story, IDK.
I’ll tell you one more small piece. Bad enough but not the worst….
Six days before that night his wife gave him a son.
She insisted he go, they needed the money….

Yeah, I’m gonna sit on the rest for now…

I’m writing a sea story for the contest…..Spring.
It’s…….coming along just fine…….😎

Thanks again!

I was just going to say this. This has happened to me too. Now I copy and paste to a note pad as I go. It happens!

Just save it on your browser.

Press Select all, then Copy.

If for some reason your post doesn't appear, press reply then Paste.

I sometimes accidentally bust up my own posts. Have no clue how. formatting and brackets.

end up just deleting it all and going "nice weather today!"

the workings of the forums here, is almost as bad as reddit...

ps, I shall raise a glass to Paul.. sorry for you loss, brother..
