Actually, the full title is GETTR, the newest pro-Trump social network, was hacked on launch day and is now fighting with furries

I kid you not.

Source

GETTR, the new "free speech" social media platform run by former Trump advisor Jason Miller, was infiltrated and defaced on Sunday by a hacker known as "@JubaBaghdad."

And in spite of the reported financing, it's not very secure

According to the hacker, as of yesterday morning, around 24 hours after the hack, the site remains "compromised" with an "API server bug."

There remain a high number of bugs in the code of Gettr, the hacker told Petrizzo, adding that hackers can continue to exploit the bugs in order to sell the scraped data on black markets.

GETTR says the exploit was fixed within minutes.

Now, the "free speech" really isn't something that's true on this platform (let's be real; ALL communities have standards and will remove you if you violate them, so technically there really is no place with 'free speech')

Despite being marketed as a "cancel-free" social media platform, GETTR has already banned a number of users. Far-right personality Baked Alaska was suspended on July 1.

It's unclear why Baked Alaska was suspended from GETTR, although he was boasting about the suspension on far right social network Gab shortly after.

And as to the Furry involvement (which bewildered the heck out of me because I know a quite a few of them and while some of the First Fandom has the skills to do this kind of hack, I don't see them involved in hacktivism) -- turns out that at least one person and possibly a coordinated group (note; may or may not be an actual Furry) decided to troll the network and test to see if they really WERE a "free speech" area.

here's the skinny on that

At the time this piece was being published, GETTR users were complaining about being banned from the platform for posting furry porn involving Sonic the Hedgehog.

According to KotakuKotaku, hashtags such as #sonicfeet and #sonicmylove have permeated GETTR.

Users have been trolling the website with furry content in order to test those "free speech" values GETTR bases itself on. Sonic, a beloved classic video game character, is also very popular among online communities, furries included.

Soooooooooooooo....

This has been your evening dose of weirdness.

I was vastly amused.

I would just like to see one damn place people can speak freely and offend each other as God and the Founders intended. It isn't a good thing if GETTR fails. Our Country requires free discourse, even discourse you don't like, to function properly. This is likely one of the reasons the LEFT is trying to eliminate dissent and the free exchange of ideas.

It will not happen. Every community has its standards. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be on a free speech spot where 9for example) men are discussing how to be sexually active with 8 year old boys, right? (I know I'd shut that one down in a hot minute.) And yet, that discussion would fall under 'free speech'.

(or maybe you WOULD allow it. I can't speak for you. I do know that many people here would go after the poster with Malice Aforethought.)

The *closest* you'll get is 4Chan.

I personally find 4Chan and 8Chan tiresome and don't go there.

Getting hacked/attacked in its first days is a good sign!

It means GETTR is a threat to evil leaders, just like ATS is.

(ATS is hammered frequently)

I don't disagree with you here though these problems bring more focus to the whole issue of free speech. Can there even BE free speech without every Tom Dick and Harry tossing in their own bits of free speech that totally disembowel the concept with whatever level of chaos they wish to add to any discourse?

I think in most societies that would be illegal, as in conspiring to commit a criminal offense, not free speech.

I don't think "free speech" needs to be so fragile that any Tom Dick and Harry can scuttle it with a few choice words. But it would require the rest of us do need to be responsible adults who do not call for the dismantling of internet because we saw something that offended us.

So is World of Warcraft (getting hammered frequently) along with all the major news sites, military sites, and a bunch of other stuff.

Hackers just want to see if they can crack something.

Most are not "hactivists", though if you read the story that I linked, they got hit by a Palestinian hacktivist.

ATS gets hit by regular script kiddies and DDOS bot networks (in the old days, these bots were installed on home computers by sending an email like "my friend I need some help" and the unsuspecting person who clicked on the link installed a bot on their machine that ran in the background and coordinated with others to attack targets) ; the hacktivists aren't that interested in us.

That's why, if you've got a controversial site (as when I did websites for several local police departments), if you are any sort of high level webdev you will have your hacker friends try to crack the test site before you go live. If you've buttoned up against that stuff, then you don't get embarrassing mistakes like getting hacked your first day.

Actually, no. Age of consent varies wildly... and there are places where such things are (trying to put this delicately) not frowned upon. And it would be allowed in certain contexts such as a writer asking whether a scenario sounds believable or someone doing an art request with cartoon characters (there's stuff on the anime channels that I find a tad disturbing.)

And since the Internet is international and most users are somewhat anonymous, you can't really report User I.have.a.dirty.mind to the police because you don't know where they are and who they are and whether what they're discussing is actually illegal in that jurisdiction and whether they're just roleplaying or deadly serious.

See what I mean?

Why are we fooling ourselves into believing shutting down internet speech such as "men are discussing how to be sexually active with 8 year old boys" has any real effect on the physical crime of being sexually active with 8 year old boys?

All it does is drive those discussions under ground where you can't do anything about it and you don't even know its occurring.

America is already under a tyrant they cant even see, themselves, so i wouldn't count on free speech or many other individual rights surviving the next century.

Free speech as the founding fathers intended. It is not your job to protect my eyes and ears. My parents stopped protecting me when I was 18. You commies don’t care about me. Stop pretending you do. This is all about power and control.

I find the furry part rather odd to have come up, because Mayor Muriel Bowser posted a anime porn pic on the 4th.

So the pic has a watermark:

Which is a furry group of some sort...

Odd coincidence methinks.

Yep, totally see what you mean, however, I don't see it as open as that.

If the country you reside in and communicate from has laws specifically outlawing what someone is conspiring to do then you are committing an illegal act. Whether they can be caught and prosecuted may well be difficult, however it's still illegal IMHO. As you have noted, it's about standards and those standards are the law.

Free speech, to me at least, is anything that exists outside of illegal activity. That does not eliminate the possibility of talking about illegal things.

Got that you a$$hat?

edit on 6 7 2021 by myselfaswell because: having a laugh and pushing the free speech boundaries aaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Mr Trump can't ever seem to catch a break it seems. Hell before 2016 the press loved him and always asked if he was ever going to run for Prez. A good take away from Trump is he really proved was that there was and is a 'deep state'.
Miss you Mr President! Please come back to the show soon.

I got to thinking: What the Erebus ?
Did someone break an oath or something ?

Okay. Furries. Well, I guess that's OKay then.

I'd be curious to see what leftist social media sites have been hacked and attacked and attempted shut down, seems any attempt at a site where free speech is protected, advertized and espoused is met with derrision and attacks.

Odd that. Don't you think?
