Yep. Remove the bedrock of truth and the young will end up being adrift in a sea of trendy nonsense which shifts in accordance with the current tides of the powers that should not be.

"Since the affairs of men rest still uncertain,
Let's reason with the worst that may befall."

Shakespeare (another offensive, threatening old guy who was, no doubt, frightened of change).

It isn't just the young that are acting like a bunch of offended whiney losers.

What young person still dicks around on Facebook, for example? That place is ground zero for middle aged Kevin's and Karen's.

I only hear about Facebook second hand and it's enough to keep me away from it.
They may not be young but is it possible that immaturity is the key here?

It's most likely a combination of factors but the number one is being able to say whatever comes into your numpty head whenever you want to whomever you want with very little consequence.

My wife showed me the neighborhood Facebook page and it was mostly people s*** talking about other people in the neighborhood.

Very productive, I'm sure.
Something I've noticed is that a lot of this hive-mind mentality is rooted in an abject fear of not being one of the crowd.

The outsider is to be shunned, mocked and ridiculed.
A quick look at histories outsiders tells us that many of them have been trailblazers of change in science, technology and popular thought.
A dangerous thing for those in power.
All change must now be dictated from the top down.

No room for the individual.
It's low level terrorism to keep the pliant in line and turn them away from realising that being alone sometimes is not the end of the world.

What ever happened to, “I disagree with what you said but will defend to the death your right to say it “?

I have no idea mate but great question.

Loved the video -- thanks for posting! The ending is perfect!!!

Not just because it's clever, but because so many people don't get a clue until their own logic comes back to bite them in the butt. Sadly, even then, too many snowflakes just melt and still don't get the lesson they need.

The phrase "the map is not the territory" springs to mind.
Theoretical knowledge is not as good as personal experience.

Once you've detached people from the reality of life and placed them on the map (or game board) , this map can then be edited or redrawn to suit whatever purpose you desire.
The longer we live on the map, the further from reality we become.
Real life is hard.
Things go wrong, people get hurt and we all have our own failures to deal with.

Fantasy land is gutting us of our ability to deal with all the things it is to be human. The desire for perfection is an addiction too strong to resist for the weak minded. Fear of failure is worse than actual failure and fear doesn't teach many lessons.

Eventually a self induced madness will trap people in an internal world of selfish, imaginary perfection. A true horror.

The idea of being uploaded to a digital heaven by a creepy transhumanist ideal will become increasingly attractive to those who have been weakened to such a degree that reality is no longer tolerable.

I guess that's why most of social media has no appeal for me, I'm not out looking for approbation from people I don't know or care to know.

Given that you are interested in sincere discussion then what do you think of political correctness?

I'm probably one of the least politically correct people you'll meet.

You're getting a greatly toned down version of my real self.

Im offended that you have to tone down.

Me too, some of the things I can't tell you are so funny because they are so inappropriate.

I would try to be outraged also but it's tricky doing two things at once.

I'm in a lazy Friday mood.

Oh crap, it's Offended Friday.
I forgot my gun and knife at home.

Don't worry. There is plenty of coloring books for everyone in this circle.

I can tell.
Too much stock is placed in the approval of others.
If you can be yourself and be happy in yourself it is its own reward.
Lively discussion has become something of a war zone lately.
Understanding another's point of view while not necessarily agreeing is becoming a lost art.

ETA
Yes inappropriate humour is the best kind. When people know the real you , it's possible to get away with the most outrageous and terrible jokes.

Doesn't always work online, though.
I found that out pretty quick!

Most of them revolve around stereotypes. My niece's favorite games/characters are Asian Driver, Uncle Heinrich (they're Jewish and he looooves camp), Uncle San Francisco (he likes to decorate) and a few other way over the top things. I told my sister in law my dream is that CPS calls and tells her they're taking her kids away because they're doing these characters in school.

I've never heard that phrase before, but it's brilliant! And this as well:

Fear of failure is worse than actual failure and fear doesn't teach many lessons.

There is this idea that "failure" is final, rather than just the beginning -- or an intrinsic part -- of growing and learning and expanding.

Who was it that said failure is just a lesson in what will not work? Einstein? Mark Twain? I don't remember now...

Everything is (or can be) a lesson and another step in realizing success. But only if we can see it and put it to good use.
