Hey folk, I have over 2 decades of non profit experience, but I'm one step away from the knowledge you are looking for, which suggests I might have something to offer. Sadly I'm having difficulty logging in. I will continue to try.

Sorry you had difficulty. It looks like you were able to register. Are you still having a problem logging in?

I'm not familiar with that member. If you are and they're interested I'd certainly love to hear from them.

I asked that question when this news first broke.
I got no response then and I guess if the guys don't know who he is then he hasn't been in touch.

Shame.

I just hope something can be sorted out.

Who knows, he may be willing to help out in some way.
I imagine if he does he wouldn't want it broadcasting.

Good luck trying to go the non-prof route. This forum meets none of the requirements.

I was the secretary for a 501(c)(3) horse rescue group for many years, so I'm familiar with the process.

problems with simple solutions. get your own hardware and colocate for like 49.99 a month. All of these supposed huge issues are really not that expensive. Sorry I can't pitch in, im just not at that point in my life currently.

The forum wouldn't be the nonprofit. The forum would simply be an asset of the nonprofit, gifted via a crowdfunded effort. The nonprofit would exist independently and hopefully be revenue neutral.

A nonprofit, even without IRS exemption, would allow for the forum to be owned by the members rather than an individual and the board would have to be elected. The board also has to follow the by-laws and act in the interests of the organization.

I'm fully aware that I don't have the expertise to answer these questions. Rather than pay for an attorney for the whole process I though a request for assistance might be helpful to see if it worked.

If you want to actually provide input it would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like a pretty convoluted plan. I don't think it has legs.

Your root problem to my eyes is in order to achieve any semblance of financing members need to break their privacy - knowing ATS as an ex Mod Ill tell you some hope there in gathering any significant numbers.

ATS thrived on the blind faith that it was all secret - members claiming vast wealth were never going to be called out as we never knew who they were.

Welcome to the Catch22 scenario and good luck on that.

At the end of the day the PTB have had their fill and will move on. Knowing the insides i doubt you will find a group as dedicated as the former staff - both financially and time rich to run ATS as it was.

Edited

I have just scanned to site again for the first time in 2 months and its the same - political diatribes and no substance to the site I joined in the 1990s
- thats the real downfall wrote large.

That's certainly all true.

The revelations of the past 10-15 years have shattered some of those privacy illusions, but all in all people want to keep a low profile.

So I've seen the expense side of $25k per month. Has the revenue side been disclosed? Regardless, I'm assuming a significant delta. If that's the case, what viable revenue model are you guys exploring that would make any 'significant' investment make sense?

I wish I could understand why expenses are so expensive for this site. Average monthly expenses for websites are no more than 5k a month.

www.webfx.com...

If I were the owner, I'd prefer to sell it dirt cheap rather than letting it run into the ground.

I suspect you're right there......just as I suspect you're right in your asseseement of the primary cause of the decline of ATS.

Politics should have stayed as a section of BelowTopSecret.....it started going downhill when ATS and BTS merged.

Nevertheless, I sincerely hope something can be worked out, ATS is still by far the best site of its kind around and there are some great people posting on here.
