There is no excuse for breaking curfew.
There is also no excuse for the cops in question abusing their authority.

Looks like the officer barely made contact; looks like the guy was stumbling backwards even before the office made contact; and it looks like the guy was stumbling and feel back in a way you might see when someone does it purpose.

My personal opinion is that the guy set it all up fully intending to be a 70 year old man who was pushed over by police officers.

Quite a difference these days right? I've been a member since 2004. After a long break came back to a completely different ATS.

You will spend a lot of time walking off anger if you stick around. No longer are there open minds, discussions, a willingness to learn and distrust of all government. It's all excuses, justifications and claims of fake news.

This is just one of many abuses of power to be shown on social media; many more to come... Thank God for citizens and their phones recording it.

And for America to still be free to record and publish on social platforms. Record everything!!

That's not what it looked like to me....

The more and more I watch; the more I'm convinced its bad acting. He should have practiced more at home.

He is definitely stumbling backwards before the office even makes contact.

I have been a martial artist for 25 years. A competitor, and a trainer. That guy is severely concussed. The cop that walked up from behind gave a short but quite sharp push with sufficient force to send the man off balance. At 75 years of age it can be a lot easier to lose balance yes, but that fall could have ended in a fatality on pavement. It was nasty. You are trying to project your desired reality into this situation. It's sickening.

EDIT: On closer inspection, it was actually the cop on the mans right that did the push, not the one that walked up. He pushed the man just as he was taking a step backwards. In fact, his push was perfectly timed in the mans step backwards to have caused him to fall like that. On the face of that video that cop could be charged with assault.

first three things .

the old fella walks, starts talking then he touches one of the cops the one that pushed him.
the old fella has what appears to be some kind of helmet in his hand.
the front cops moved on, but at the 22 second mark another bends down and starts giving aid he is in camo.

now as far as walking up and talking to the cops. i see no problem with. but once you touch one in this situation what the hell did you think was gonna happen?

why did he have a helmet in his hand? you know if he had been wearing it maybe he wouldn't of cracked his noggin when he hit the ground.

as as for those that say they just left him that is a bald face lie, they didn't just leave him, he was given aid by another.
if you watch in 1/4 speed, you see the first cop that bent over is pulled up by the one behind who looks at the man then who then looks back, turns back looking at the around and gets on his radio. i'm guessing calling it in. then at the :22 sec mark you see the one in camo sling his weapon to back and start to bend down and if you watch to the :27 sec mark you can see that cops head just in behind the cops in front of the camera in front of what appears to be a cross walk signal or a red light not sure which it is. then you can see him real clearly at the :27 sec mark. the second camo cop comes up and stands there with the first one.

i would think you don't render aid when in front of the line and bunch up you move forward and let those in rear give aid.

You're wrong.

second time I watched it and it's not a fake fall. I thought there was a possibility at first but on second inspection, no it wasn't. A clear push on the guy.

Whether he should have been there is neither here mor there... it was a blatant push and the cop should be punished accordingly... the guy could have died hitting his head like that.

Apparently he was just returning the helmet that was in his left hand.

How in hades name do you...or the cop that pushed him.... know that he didnt have an excuse??
Do you realize how many alerts go out about lost seniors suffering with alzheimers? My god, in my area we get more alerts for seniors than we do for kids!!
Or, who knows, maybe one of those evil liberal antifa...
Or boogaloos... attacked his car on a side strert and his wife was laying in the car still unconscious... and he was just trying to get help. Gee, wonder how much longer it would take for someone to find..
Theres plenty of reasons why someone might approach a cop seeking assistance even in normal times. And it's not like there weren't a ton of cops around and they couldnt spare one to help the man..
The public is never wrong to think that they can approach a cop seeking help. Its what we pay far t bye me for!!!
Help!@ theres a black man running..
Help! Theres a black man swimming in our pool...
Help, theres a black man scaring me...
If that crap is okay..
Then an elderly man should be able to walk up to a cop and say... help, I dont know where I am or how to get home!!!

All they had to do was escort him to the area they wanted him in.
I am GLAD they were suspended
They have NO understanding of how to handle their authority.

Cops are trained to deal with criminals in crimes. Not for protests and for curfews with people who do not want to be restricted. Plus these cops are probably overworked and tense, there are cops getting shot and beat up, even an old guy could be a little nuts and pull a knife and stab them in the throat. We are old people, some of the old people were trained in the military...we are not harmless just because we are older. I may be in my sixties, and sore all over from years of abusing my body at work, but if I had to I could take almost anyone down in minutes if they let their guard down, And I was never military, but know how to protect myself if needed. Never assume an old guy is helpless.

They should not have people who are not trained working then.
If they put people in that situation untrained then the city is responsible, right?
The lengths you are going to for justification of this are dizzying.

many states are going to start a program to train the cops to be better in protests, I read that online somewhere.

Stupid all around.

The man is obviously old and frail.

A stiff wind could have knocked him down.

He should have never been there and officers should have even avoided brushing against him given his physical state.

I'm starting to think this all is darwin stuffing his cart at a super sale after having been in hiding for a decade. He's stocking up hard.

lol nice
well not literally nice...

Divide us? Why are we not pulling together to state this behavior on civilians is wrong?

Even in this thread there are excuses, and justifications for the behavior putting the blame on the victim.

Seriously people will show up with an automatic weapon to protest that their wife can't get a hair cut and white supremacists are considered "very fine people", yet protesting brutality and murder is incorrect and divisive? We can't come together and say this type of behavior from law enforcement is incorrect? We blame the victims?

Who is actually doing the dividing? The president agreed that peaceful protesters including clergy from the church he wanted a photo op at (he doesn't attend any church) should be considered terrorists.

People have no empathy or compassion anymore.

I don't know.
My mom with Alzheimer's doesn't get to go flitting about all by herself at illegal demonstrations after a curfew.

Don't get me wrong.
A certain number of cops enjoy getting action in whenever they can justify it.

His approach upon them when they were ordering everyone back gave them justification (in their eyes) and they pushed him back.

He shouldn't have been there pushing their buttons.
A man needs to know his limitations.
His limitations apparently begin at walking backwards and staying on his feet.

If I assaulted someone causing serious bodily harm is my punishment losing employment or job suspensions?

Once again law enforcement being held to lower standards.

Wait what? You need to provide a link to that, since Trump said that people have a right to peaceably protest, but they do not have a right to commit violence, arson, destroy property, or murder. So would you like to inform us where you got that?

From: WhiteHouse.gov

From Trumps June 1st speech:

The biggest victims of the rioting are peace-loving citizens in our poorest communities, and as their President, I will fight to keep them safe. I will fight to protect you. I am your President of law and order, and an ally of all peaceful protesters.

Same speech, he also pointed out;

These are not acts of peaceful protest. These are acts of domestic terror. The destruction of innocent life and the spilling of innocent blood is an offense to humanity and a crime against God.

But if you have evidence of him saying anything to the contrary please provide a link to it.

Back to the old man, from the video taken from across the street it is clear that while the cop may have pushed him, the old man did fall while walking backwards. This whole thing is just a tragic accident, but this being said why don't we have a full video of what happened after the man fell? All we have is a short clippie piece of of the after math of this fall.

Watch the vid, he was clearly pushed backwards.

What video, there is no video on that link, one picture and lots of writing, I could not see any link to click on for the video anywhere in that link.

This video...

Yes,
that's the one seen here in the UK. Note how the policewoman approaches the cameraman too, and note how an officer moved on one of the offending cops when he started to check on the man who fell....unbelieveable.

You better take a closer look. Masks have two stings, one around each ear. You would expect to see that string go to and from the ear. 3 is something extra. Paid actors, in your face!!!
