I'm not saying he was terrible.
But the heavyweight division was weak when he was champ.
Larry Holmes came out of retirement to fight Tyson...lol

that's the thing though, it actually wasn't weak at all... people just say that because Tyson was so completely dominant in his prime... he made the top contenders look like punks, and they weren't.

Theres no defence against someone that fights like Tyson did... you can't "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee" when your opponent is stronger and faster... and comes right at you all the time with 10 KO punches before you can think

Theres never been a boxer like Tyson... and I think he could come back big time!

I never got the love for Mike Tyson.
So many people believe he was such a great fighter and in truth he never beat anyone all that impressive.
Ali would have ate him alive.

Not according to what Ali told Foreman

metro.co.uk...

He was a scary guy..
So was foreman..

Still think all would beat him.

We'll see how it turns out when he fights someone who can actually fight. Time is a cruel taskmaster and he might look impressive hitting things that don't hit back but at his age, any blows he takes are going to do more damage than they used to. It's just a fact. Age is not just a number when it comes to getting punched in the head.

And raise your hand if you watched the Tyson/Douglas fight back in the day. I did.

Nobody could believe it.

Buster Douglas took Tyson out in his prime.
The heavyweight division sucked.

We'll never know. I'm a F1 fan, and there's always debate about who's the best: Schumacher, Hamilton, Fangio, Prost, Senna, Vettel, Alonso, etc. etc. There's just no way to know, because they'll never race against each other in equal machinery, in their heyday.

All we know, is that they were the best for a period of time in history. Sport, you gotta love it!

yeah age is a big factor... recovery will be really tough, but who knows...

IF he can still take a punch and manage to avoid being hit like he used to... we'll just have to see what comes of this

And I don't think head shots matter when you have no brain to start with lol

meh... boxers don't make good Ufc fighters... james toney learned that the hard way

Tony also never trained in mixed martial arts to the point that he would have stood a chance. It's all about the training.

What happened the 2nd time they met?

Tyson was off of his game that first match no doubt.

So true.
But it's hard to ignore the quality of competition when debating greatness.
Tom Brady got to play the Jets, bills and dolphins for 5 or 6 easy wins every season.
It helps to get home field advantage in the playoffs.
Brady is a great player either way but playing where he did sure helped.

Did they ever fight again?
I know Douglas lost his next fight and then got fat.

Tyson lost to Douglas in February of 1990 and was arrested in July of 1991.

I respect the guy as a fighter, I mean who cant right? but do you all forget he went to prison in 92 for rape? Some of you all are saying you like him. C'mon folks..... Do we all forget that easy? and fast? no one does research? Some of you are saying you like a rapist, let that sink in for a second...

He went to Prison for rape. He has served his time, and he learned his lesson. I find it hard to keep punishing people after they have learned their lesson, and I also believe the woman wanted some money.

Well we all have opinions.
As for me, Tyson was a good fighter that lost his crap before he beat another fighter of any quality.

He doesn't have the marquee win in his career.

And don't forget that part of what makes fighters great is mental toughness.

I agree with you there.
She was getting wined and dined all over town and then goes back to his hotel room.
She knew exactly what she was doing.

For a 52 year old who smokes enough ganja to sink an aircraft carrier he sure looks fast and fierce in that video.
If he could keep that up for a few rounds,I rekon he would batter Tyson Fury in short order.

I think you should take a look at who he fought before saying he didn't fight anyone of quality...

boxrec.com...

He fought a lot of really tough guys... they just weren't big names in the media
