IAI Westwind with medical supplies down

Reports are coming out of Manila that an IAI Westwind (RP-C5880) has been involved in a crash on takeoff. The aircraft was totally destroyed in a fire, and none of the 8 people on board are said to have survived. Reports are coming in on social media, and it hasn't hit the media yet. According to the report, the plane was chartered by the Philippine health ministry, and went off the runway on takeoff. More as it becomes available.

The initial report was they were landing, later changed to taking off. They may have gotten airborne and came back down hard.

Looking at the data from FR24, it was an abort gone bad. There's no altitude date, but the speed reached about 100 knots before starting back down and cutting off.

It was a medevac with patient and companion on board. They were transporting to Japan.

seems that the airline company has some issues

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Deputy Director Don Mendoza said in the press briefing that the aircraft was "airworthy" and that the pilot's license was current.
But he said CAAP would consider grounding Lionair's planes, since this is the second fatal incident involving the company in nearly 7 months.
On September 1, 2019, a medical evacuation plane also operated by Lionair crashed in Laguna, killing all 9 people aboard.

from a comment i read on the Philippine red cross facebook post, it seems that the aircraft caught fire and exploded on takeoff

The early reports were that they had a runway overrun. The initial data looks like a takeoff abort about 100 knots. An engine problem or tire blowing at that speed could lead to a fire, and an overrun could absolutely cause an explosion.

Doesn't even look as if they even got Airborn..


They picked up speed, but failed to lift.
