Okay, but Pentagon officials briefed Congress, just 15 days before Trump made his declaration, that there was no national security emergency on the southern border.

So you want the military making domestic decisions now?

Seems like it if this statement is supposed to have any validity...

Just dig some new "panama canals" between the U.S, Canada and Mexico. Fill it with sharks and become your own little planet once and for all as many Americans dream it already is.

A few miles of shark infested waters seems to me to be a better security measure than a scalable wall you can tunnel under.

Also opens new shipping lanes which would help pay for it and boost the U.S economy.

Imagine North Dakota and Arizona as major shipping ports. It's nothing but win all around!!!

The Pentagon, together with various intel agencies, are in the position to advise the president and Congress on where national security is at risk, like the security of our elections, and where it is not, like at the southern border.

What we have is a president who lies to the American people about that information, for personal gain, and is stealing funds, delegated to other projects by Congress and Pentagon officials, to excite his base and gain votes, not for the good of the country.

So the military industrial complex has never lied to the president before, or lied to push an agenda...

So why are you on a conspiracy site out of curiosity if you think its more prudent to trust the military industrial complex than a guy that will only be around 8 years.

So, you think that Pentagon officials were lying when they addressed Congress, and stated that there is no national security emergency at the southern border, while the House was claiming that there was an humanitarian crisis?

You think intel officials are lying when they say that the sovereignty of our election are at risk, "like never before"?

Do you remember that Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush were lying about yellow cakes and WMDs, while the intel community and Colon Powell were advising the opposite? And, how the administration outed a Valerie Plame for disagreeing, and forcing Colin Powel to make a public statement. And, that he advised the administration that those were lies? And, do you remember how Colin Powel apologized to the American people for his part in perpetrating a lie?

It wasn't the Pentagon and the intel community that lied to you. It was a Republican president and his administration that wanted a war.

Do you believe Trump when he lies, or do you brush off his lies as personality quirks?

Because Trump's own Pentagon and intel agencies betray his lies, do you think Trump's claim that there is a national security emergency at the border, that only a big beautiful Trump wall can fix, is a lie or a personality quirk?

It's the President's decision.

Yes, advise. Not dictate.

The President makes the call on how to deal with whatever situation arises, not the military, not the Pentagon, not intel. The President. Period. All of those other agencies work for the President; the President does not work for them. They are all part of the Executive Branch, of which the President is the head.

The Pentagon cannot declare a National Emergency. The Pentagon cannot declare a crisis. Neither can the military or intel. Please, just this once, read the law!

50 USC § 1621(a)

With respect to Acts of Congress authorizing the exercise, during the period of a national emergency, of any special or extraordinary power, the President is authorized to declare such national emergency. Such proclamation shall immediately be transmitted to the Congress and published in the Federal Register.

The President is authorized. Not the CIA. Not the NSA. Not the Pentagon. Not the military. The President.

The various agencies of the Executive Branch are not even required to advise Congress. They do, in the interest of National Security, but that is not a requirement under law.
