Mars is a stupid idea

Mars is very difficult. The first step should be settling the ocean. Mars can only come after that.

If someone or a group of people can figure it out to make it work, then it will no longer be a stupid idea... maybe the moon first as a dry run to mars? Can we be absolutely sure today that Mars, or the moon were not inhabited before by simple organisms or even intelligent beings?
