I dont know why people thing Europe is socialist. They do have far more social programs...but really most countries run a capitalist type of market system.

Peeps need to understand that US common law is based on English common law as well.


I am prety sure peeps in the UK end up selling their homes to move into care homes. Its not as prevalent but it happns.

Your link is a bit sly, there are no bankruptcies in the UK as a result of medical fees. That is an absolute fact.
The only bankruptcies referred to in the link are for people who are ill being out of work.
Same for me, if I wasn't on this drug I'd be unable to work and pay all my outgoings. Nobody goes bankrupt in the UK for medical bills, that is a US thing.

Oh, and residential care home fees if you get old are chargable per person until you get down to your last £23,000 in assets. After that the local authority pays the fees so you still get to pass on 23 grand on to your kids. £46,000 if you are in a relationship/married.

Yeah I'm on a few hundred doses of various anti-seizure and nerve damage meds a month (would be a few grand a month to buy) but don't pay a penny as they're needed for survival. Free treatment in one of the world's best specialist centres too and operations to repair nerves/plate up broken bones) were all performed free by a top surgeon after the initial one to fix a shattered arm after an RTA was postponed due to a seizure.

The person in the article had his cancelled due to the need to sort out blood pressure, then due to his failure to give up or decrease his smoking which would be necessary for a successful operation. Break doctors advice and fail to prepare for operation and you get bumped down to the bottom of the queue.

He would have been able to get free private treatment after a month due to the injury and after one real cancellation - as written in NHS constitution 2005. Not sure why he didn't put the financial and other argumets in his favour to the medical team as they would take that into account and try to fast-track his treatment - the extra resources are there, just need to be asked for.

Sure, but the point is, that there are people who find themselves in a bit of trouble because of various scenarios. And your healthcare is not "free". You pay a lot more tax than peeps in the states do.

No mate, my original point was about people going bankrupt over medical bills, something I said never happens in the UK.
The bankrupcy reasons are the same for other situations like losing ones job for being unable to work, but medical bills nope, that is a US thing.
Speaking of taxes, the US is the only major nation in the world which taxes its citizens on income they earn overseas. The only way to avoid it is by renouncing citizenship, so if you are working in the UK I hope you are being a good citizen and paying Uncle Sam his share lol

Of course they are not free services here, and I include all welfare/health services in this, we pay taxes, and I've never bleated about taxes, they aren't that much and I've always had a decent life working.
They are free services at the point of need though, and I'd prefer to pay the little taxes we relatively do pay so every citizen has healthcare free at the point of need.

Like my OP, these costs are mental. And just to tie it into the opioid crisis, there is the drug Nalaone which has skyrocketed since this Opioid problem has been classed as an epidemic.


Funny thing is, after a hurricane, it is illegal to raise prices because of profiteering, yet this is allowed. WTH.

The opioid craziness is another US thing though from doctors dishing them out like sweets.
Try getting opiates on the NHS, you have to lie and say your pain level is higher than it is.
I badly broke some ribs a few years ago, hallucinated on the morphine, it was fantastic, but they are tightfisted with painkillers on the NHS, you really have to be in serious pain.

Ah I was more on about the US 'middle class' opioid thing. A few smack-heads in #hole major cities around the UK doesn't affect my life at all.
Sounds harsh I know, but that is the society I live in. Our smack-heads behave or they get beaten and punished.
Nobody calls cops and if you even ever see one nobody gives witness statements to them. #hole cities may have lost their community but the rest of Britain hasn't.
Violent drug users lmao as well, the average emaciated smack-head couldn't fight to save his life lol

Exactly. The delivery method for EpiPen isn't even that complex. Really all it is is a spring-loaded syringe. There was no reason for the price to jump other than to maximize profits.

Anywhere outside of them where there is strong community is great. Take #hole cities out of the news and the bulletin would be great as well.
I know plenty of crooks, and they are the same, they don't like skanky people spoiling the community.
