DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say three suspects who allegedly followed a couple shopping at a DeKalb County grocery store Friday afternoon were hospitalized after the couple opened fire on them.

According to police, officers got multiple 911 calls from the parking lot of the Kroger off Wesley Chapel and South Hariston around 4:15 p.m. of shots being fired.

The trio then followed the couple out of the store into the parking lot, where there was an exchange of "a large amount of gunfire."

Police believe the group targeted the couple, but don't believe the parties knew each other before the incident.

"Whether it was a robbery or a carjacking, we don't know right now. It's still too early on in the investigation to say," Campbell told 11Alive at the scene.

Breaking story, hopefully additional details will follow but at this time it appears a trio of criminals were stalking a couple and found out what concealed carry is all about.

Additional information and video at the news link.

reporter ask about 'reckless gun fire'

Yeah, why not let some criminals kill or injure the couple and go on their merry way. Given no bystanders hit, doesn't seem reckless.

Sounds like the man victim hits all three attackers.

How many times do those reporters need to ask the same questions??

"Reckless"? Pending further evidence, it sounds like self-defense. No innocents were hit, just the 3 "alleged" bad guys.

Was it luck? Or was it skill, on the part of the man?

I hate to think what they would do for a Klondike Bar...

Thats actually what most governments would prefer you do. You are replaceable, and your death makes everyone more afraid and reliant on the government for protection

Gun rights for the win.

This armed robber got shot by everyone, literally.

People who go around killing/robbing/hurting innocents getting a bullet between the eyes... yep turns me on as I feel Karma is awake.

always comforting to see Karma rear its head..

Good on the couple for defending themselves.

Where was Matt Dillon and Festus when they needed them? Matt must have been out of town and Festus was bumming beers off of Doc at Miss Kitty's place. I know modern Georgia is a far cry from old west Kansas, but they sound like gun slinging cow pokes in a wide open town, not like that is a problem when personal security is at stake IMO.

When seconds count, the police are a half an hour away.

Off topic, but Dodge City had a no-carry law back in the day, wouldn't know that by watching Gun Smoke.

In my defense, I misread the title and skimmed the thread. I thought it was a "police couple" who both fended off attackers. Which would have been better, lol.

Would everyone not be heading towards the parking lot when they leave the store?

Just hoping the two Police have not been somewhat paranoid and started a shooting spree because they thought they were being followed?

Let's face it, its hardly beyond the realms of possibility in this day of age.

Hopefully, additional CCTV footage can shine further light as to what transpired.

Undercover cops, federal officers this couple could have a reason to be armed.
And the local cops may have a reason not to identify them.

Yes seems there might be more to this incident than meets the eye.

Further information is required as to why and what actually transpired methinks.

The store must have CCTV footage in this day of age.

Video implies it was in the parking lot, not the store.
