A thought, which I should probably keep to myself just came to mind.

So Roseanne said something that someone else adjudged to be "racist". Let us presume for the moment that the speaker was a self-professed racist. They say something that others adjudge to be racist. So the "racist" is fired.

So..........freedom of speech doesn't extend to racists?

Oh, but wait.............

In a May 10, 2017 email to students obtained by Red Alert Politics, Texas A&M President Michael K. Young refused to discipline or fire professor Tommy Curry. Curry called for white genocide, saying in a 2012 podcast "in order to be equal, in order to be liberated, some white people may have to die."

Hmmm, so I guess an exception was carved out............for University Professors!

Very high. It's over the top to sack her when other abc actors/hosts insult the sitting president and his family etc and nothing is done. In fact it is encouraged.

Insult is one thing. I checked out who VJ is and the comment was racist. It was political and it was MASSIVELY stupid.

The fact that one has to check who the target of the joke was, what their appearance, race, etc is prior to judging the "racist-ness" of a joke speaks volumes, man. The joke was rude, but that's as far as I'll go with my judgement on it.

Yeah it says I don't jump to conclusions.

If you don't see the racist aspect to this there something wrong with your logic. X(I don't care who) + PotA = a black political figure. That's racist.

Eh, I though her statement could have been racist.

Here was her tweet.

"Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj."

VJ being valerie jarrett

Not sure I see the correlation to racism on that? isn't VJ white?

Valerie Jarrett was born in Iran to African-American parents

Freedom of speech doesn't mean immunity from your employer.

As I was reading your post I thought you were taking it in a completely different direction.

Is it racist, or is it just a spot on comment about her eye brows?

My mom had red hair and was darker than her, so its not a race thing for moi.

It’s a shame because that was a very refreshing show.

I was surprised it was allowed on television to begin with because there was far too much truth in that show to be allowed by the Hollywood elites.

Network television was already an intellectual wasteland.

One more reason to unplug.

Meh.

Who is surprised with this? Roseanne, has always been controversial, her history has been cringe worthy. This tweet thou is just stupid. I am guessing drugs or alcohol had a influence. She regretted after posting it and promised to quit Twitter, ya under the influence of something.. Oh well her show was pretty meh anyway first episode was nostalgic after that it was pretty meh.

Freedom of speech only applies to qgovernment authority. You cannot be punished by police. It has nothing to do with your relationship with your employer.

They were just waiting for a reason to cancel her because she supports Trump. Just like last man standing.

They will not have any body liking our POTUS on their network.

In this day and age, you'd think white folks would know you can't equate black folks to monkeys in any way whatsoever. Roseanne had to be smarter than that...

As others have said, this isnt really a freedom of speech issue.

She had the freedom to speak, her employers have the right to excercise their speech by firing her.

As to your example, yes of course there are doubl satndards.

How about intersectional progressive champion Joy reid keeping her job at MSNBC after not only making homophobic statements, but then lying and saying she was hacked and never said those things.

But hey, thats up to the employer.
