ABC in a stunning move has decided to cancel its Roseanne revival following star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet Tuesday.
"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said Tuesday.

www.hollywoodreporter.com...

Eh, I though her statement could have been racist.

Certainly it was distasteful.

So play with fire I guess, you get burned.

Here was her tweet.

"Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj."

VJ being valerie jarrett

I dont think this is funny, and should be called out.

However, I hate to see people lose their job over something like this.

And before people accuse me of just defending an apparent right winger, I said the exact same thing about Kathy Griffin and defended her unfunny joke.

For us non twits, (hehe) what did she say?

I edited the OP to include it.

She said valerie jarrett was a cross between the Muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes.

I am not terribly offended by this, though I can see how it is perhaps racist.

However, if you have a network tv show, you should be more careful when trying to be edgy.

Hate to see her lose her job, but hey, ABC is looking out for their bottom line, and no doubt these comments would have hurt it, so they probably made the right decision.

He was trying to be funny. Or at least I hope so?

I don't have direct quote but something like... If an Ape and a Muslim had a baby, it would look like Valerie Jarret.

She did apologize, and it was a very bad joke, but cancelling her show was bull. She is not a racist!

Oh, but it's ok for Michelle Wolf and all the late night losers to insult the WH press Sec. Sara Sanders and insult Melania and all the Trumps on a daily basis.

She also tweets a lot about Q. Most likely they were waiting for some inappropriate comment they can discredit her with.

More proof that Trump supporters can be as bad or worse.

I see. Yea, that's not going to bode well for a Hollywood actress.

I said in another thread that folks have been trying to shut Roseanne up since the early 90s. Surprised this is the way she goes.

Very high. It's over the top to sack her when other abc actors/hosts insult the sitting president and his family etc and nothing is done. In fact it is encouraged.

Not that it matters.. it is ridiculous to cancel her show for saying something retarded..

Exactly. If the ratings were high enough, another network will pick it up.

Probably Fox.

They were very good.

Started off excellent, and then tapered somewhat, but remained high.

Nonetheless, this was a pretty brutal joke, and not only irled many in the cast, but also many other people.

You have to be smart if you are on network tv.

Now my favorite comedian doug stanhope says worse than this on a regular basis.

But he is an outcast who doesnt have a network show, so he has this freedom.

She should have been smarter, this is on her and her alone.

But again, I hate to see her lose her show.

Insult is one thing. I checked out who VJ is and the comment was racist. It was political and it was MASSIVELY stupid.

If Roseanne didn't work in Hollywood, she may not have been fired.

It was a distasteful remark but as much free speech as well have, we still have to deal with consequences.
