I have Irish and Choctaw blood.

Me too.

There's a couple of pints of each in the fridge at the moment.

Since they're keeping their name they can always use Baljeet as their mascot. Better yet since everyone is so easily offended by everything these days why don't we ban sports altogether because the concept of winners and losers is insensitive and hurtful.

But then how will organized crime survive without all the gambling money I give them?

Full blooded Ojibwe and I have never heard of any of my Native brothers and sisters call themselves redskins. Isn't it nice that some of the Caucasians of North America still think they can dictate to us what we should feel is offensive and we shouldn't.

I mean a big nosed "indian" with a head band that has a feather sticking out of it should not be offensive to us at all. *eye roll*

I only take exception to the word "us".

It can piss you off 6 ways to Sunday, and I'd be willing to defend your right to feel that way. But there are many who are not offended in the least, and you can't really speak for them.

In the end, decisions should be less about who and how many are offended, and more about intending no harm (then accepting that). Do you believe that this franchise is attempting to do harm?

Glad to see the world has been saved.
Again.
Is this utopia yet?

If this continues, I envision a future where all sports teams wear a shade of grey uniform, with no logos, no names, no numbers, and we don't keep score. Not a bright future...if you ask me.

Heh...no way corporations will let that happen. The player's will be walking advertisements for Chevron, Microsoft, etc.

No. That will be offensive to socialists and environmentalists and luddites ...

It’s a Native American with red skin. Red skin was considered an insult to native Americans. How do you not see how wrong it is? It’s the reason people have an issue with the Redskins team name.

Some ppl are tone deaf and think because somethings are a time honored tradition makes it OK, the owners of the Cleveland Indians most likely didn't feel the need to consult any Native first nation community then and they don't care to now, it was a clever gimmick to draw a crowd, not unlike the guy in a chicken suit handing out flyers for a down scale restaurant, chickens be damned.

Unfortunately it will go that way unless the country wakes up from this false idea that political correctness is the way to go. These are the same ACLU whiny asses that are up in arms when people voice any opinion that differs from their own.

I am not sure about the original intentions of owners and am pretty sure the current franchise owners are not out to offend to Native Americans but the fact remains that logo has always been offensive to full blooded Native Americans/First Nations, as is the Washington Redskins name.

You will get these people who say, I have some Native American blood in me and I find no offence to this but the problem there is, they usually can live in both worlds...the white and "indian" world and do not know what it is like to live the full experience of being "indian". To walk in a world where your people are mocked and used as mascots or slurs used against you being used as team names, it is a world where you are not taken seriously.

I don't think anyone consulted Vikings, Patriots, Irish, etc., either, but somehow, no one really worries all that much about whether any of those groups are offended.

I guess the assumption is that because we're all white here that they wouldn't be that way if anyone was? That only minority groups lack the power to change those things?

Stop with the Critical Race Theory.

Mascots are chosen in the same way and for the same reasons. They symbolize fighting spirit. No one makes a mascot out of something that is widely mocked although I cannot account for the Banana Slugs.

It's a shame this racist movement to ban native Amaricans from sports. We see it in baseball and football there is an effort to remove anything involving native americans. I think it's disgusting the racist attitudes being displayed. I thought in this day and age it would be OK to have Native amarican on TV but looks like they are banning that not allowing them to show on field. Wow is just shocking.

Exactly, at least until recently, white folks had...ooh dear ..the "privilege" to decide whether or not something is offensive or not , I donno but it's been explained before what those images meant to some from that community, could it be like the black faced images and gator eating black babies used to sell products, some may view those images from different lenses, why instead of being dismissive , folks do not..stop and listen.

The Cleveland Indians will stop using their Chief Wahoo logo on game jerseys and caps starting in 2019, according to The Associated Press. The decision has the support of the MLB, which has urged the team to decrease its use of the logo in recent years.
Notably, the logo won’t be going away entirely. The ban extends only to on-field displays, meaning Chief Wahoo will still be a fixture on merchandise that’s available throughout northern Ohio.

What about Chief Knock-a-Homer?

thats interesting.
no mater how you feel about the logo what is the point from banning only from on field displays?

its either an issue or it is not. i really dont understand why it is apparently only an issue on the field.

what do you all think?

i honestly do not give this much thought. i have lived just outside of cleveland for 20 years. the only time i ever hear complaints about the logo being racist is online. i never hear people saying anything about it out in the world. i suppose that would make sense since this is indian fan nation around here.
do you feel it is racist? bad taste?
should it be banned?

personally i dont see it as racist.
i suppose the only people that really have any room to say # would be people of native american heritage.

edit

i guess it is fan attachment for the reason as to why its not gone 100%

Bring back the XFL to compete with the now overly political NFL BS and watch the NFL start losing money.

Its easy to stay on top when youre the only game in town, people will put up with a lot, but give them options and see what happens

I can't wait for the XFL. They'll get all my support if they put a decent show. There's nothing worse than a monopoly.
